Why am I not surprised that Santa Fe has a world-class farmers market? And what a master stroke to place it in The Railyard near the train depot where the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe used to disembark. Yep, a huffin and a puffin and away she goes... all aboard for Cali-forn-i-a! On the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe! ...Sorry, I was channeling my inner Judy Garland, and that's so hard without my barbiturates. Anyway, the juxtaposition of fresh produce, fresh baked goods, and vintage train tracks works in this setting because they built a huge warehouse to house all the edibles.
It was hard to bypass the lavender blue corn doughnuts or cherry empanadas, but the long line attested to their appeal. The blue corn pupusas sure looked good (photo: http://bit.ly/2W96nSQ), but dammit, Jamie W. and I had the complimentary waffles back at the hotel already, so all we tried were the $5 Veggie Stix in a Cup with homemade ranch dressing (photo: http://bit.ly/2Wm1hr3). Wow, those were crispy-fresh as well as guilt-free. We hardly missed the berry pies and green Chile frittatas. OK, I lied. Of course we wanted those, but it was an embarrassment of riches for sure. Besides, we gotta catch a ride on the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe!
