"Architecture buffs will love the Toledo Cathedral, a quintessential example of Spanish Gothic style. This historic cathedral, built on the site of a former mosque, was born under the auspices of Ferdinand III, but the structure took centuries to complete and many of the chapels and naves were added by subsequent rulers. Still used for regular services, the church has a small entrance fee for non-worshippers. If you're short on time, don’t miss El Greco’s portraits of the 12 apostles, housed in the museum." - Ramsey Qubein

Absolutely tremendous and one of the best cathedrals I have ever seen in my entire life. I spent an hour and a half in here continuously walking around because I was constantly in awe of the place. The stained glass, intricate details and scale is truly breathtaking. By far the highlight of Toledo and if you can only go to one place in Toledo I would make it here.

Magnificent is the only word to describe this place. The scale is just breathtaking. The amount of detail that was put into building a place like this in that period is mind blowing. The painted glass windows, the stone work, the wood work, every bit of it is impressive. Make sure to stay back and see the cathedral lit up in the evening, well worth it. Lesser crowd in the afternoons. The ticket office is across from the street of the cathedral. Must visit if you’re in Toledo.

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen! The design, sculptures and everything within is beautiful. The detail in every corner is a masterpiece. We had local guide Vanessa who was absolutely amazing explaining everything in Spanish and English, details, myths, stories. This cathedral took 200 years to build. The beautiful window design within the church took 12 years alone. Very peaceful place. Children enjoyed and listened to guide as she was very good at engaging with everyone. Toledo needs more than one day visit, it is a city of history and 3 different religions were there, so much to learn. I would definitely return and stay an extra day.

This cathedral may not be the most beautiful one on the outside, but once on the inside, it it the most impressive one I've ever visited. The craftsmanship of every single item through the smallest detail is nothing short of amazing. The sculpting, carving, painting of every chapel, altar, column, wall, ceiling overwhelm by their sheer quantity she quality. There is so much to see, there are literally hundred of nooks and crannies to look at, with paintings by El Greco and others all over the place. The treasure is magnificent and the crypt very eerie. And then, there are the chapters apartments and other areas attached to the main sanctuary you can also visit. Well worth the 12 euros admission price.

The Toledo Cathedral, or the Catedral Primada de España, is not only a masterpiece of Gothic architecture but also a living testament to the layers of history that define Toledo. Built in the 13th century, the cathedral stands on the site of a former mosque, which itself was constructed atop a Visigoth church, embodying the city’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. This blending of traditions makes the cathedral an extraordinary symbol of Spain’s complex past. The cathedral’s grandiose structure and intricate details leave visitors in awe. Its soaring Gothic arches, intricate carvings, and stunning stained-glass windows create a breathtaking ambiance as light dances across the vast interior. The Retablo Mayor, or main altarpiece, is a gilded masterpiece that commands attention, depicting dramatic religious scenes with astonishing craftsmanship. For art lovers, the cathedral’s gallery is a treasure trove, showcasing remarkable works by El Greco, Velázquez, and Caravaggio. El Greco’s pieces, in particular, reflect his deep connection to Toledo, while Velázquez and Caravaggio add layers of artistic grandeur to the collection. From its architectural splendor to its historical significance, the Toledo Cathedral offers an unforgettable journey through the city’s spiritual, cultural, and artistic legacy. It’s an essential stop for anyone visiting Toledo.

It is a must-see destination. Entrance fee 12€. Very impressive and unique Cathedral of Toledo. The Toledo Cathedral or Catedral Primada de Santa María de Toledo, is one of the most impressive examples of Gothic architecture in Spain. Construction began in 1226 under King Ferdinand III and continued for more than two centuries, incorporating various architectural styles, including Mudéjar and Renaissance influences. The Toledo Cathedral is not only a masterpiece of medieval architecture but also a symbol of Spain's religious and cultural heritage.
