5 Best Day Trips from Mexico City | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Parroquia of Santa Prisca is a baroque-style church that was the tallest building in the country when it was built in the 18th century. Many visitors to Taxco (who aren't just there to buy silver) come to see the church, especially those who seek out architectural wonders and religious sites." - Susannah Rigg

A stunning church, somehow only built in a half a dozen years in the 1750s. There are local official tourist guides that will be glad to give you a detailed history and tour of the chapel, remember to prepare a tip for them.

One of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. Santa Prisca sits right in the middle of Taxco and really stands out with its pink stone and incredibly detailed facade. Inside, it's just as impressive — gold everywhere, intricate carvings, and a really peaceful atmosphere despite all the activity outside. You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the craftsmanship here. It’s a quick visit but definitely a highlight of Taxco. There are also great views of the church from nearby rooftops and restaurants, especially around sunset.

Build by Jose de la Borda a prosperous miner of Taxco who became bankrupt owing to the high cost of this but later stuck silver and became even more wealthy. It is one of the best new Spanish constructions. Santa Prisca has nine floor-to-ceiling altarpieces, worked in wood and covered with gold leaf. The style of the altarpieces forms a unit with the architectural ensemble, that is, it is a sample of mid-18th century New Spanish Baroque

What a beautifully designed church. It is the heart of the town. Beautiful Inside and out. Once inside everywhere you lay eyes on you see intricate designs. The silver Virgen de Guadalupe is life size and is a testament of Taxco being the capital of silver of Mexico. I know you can ask about climbing the towers to get a view of the city, we visited while they were doing baptisms and didn’t know who to ask but if you have the chance definitely do it!

Amazing place, perfect to buy silver, real silver. Beautiful town, the church is breathtaking. Be ready to walk and spend some serious pesos here. Many restaurants, stores, bars and plenty of streets to explore.
