10 Post Offices Worth Writing Home About

"Kids and kids-at-heart all remember the delicious milk and cookies, decorating the tree, and, of course, writing that wondrous letter to ol’ Kris Kringle himself and eagerly mailing it to the North Pole. Head to this Santa Clause village in the Arctic Circle, and you can snag a behind-the-scenes look at the mail magic in action. Built from natural stone and pine trees, what claims to be the world’s only official Santa Claus Post Office has been handling Father Christmas’ mail since 1985. The office is even a genuine part of the Finnish postal services, though it only receives letters addressed to Santa. As you’d expect, the cozy Arctic office is full to brim with elves (some of which are 300 years old, according to the official website) who light lanterns, take care of the letters, and assist Santa in writing post of his own to excited children across the world. He needs all the help he can get: To date, this post office has fielded about 20 million letters from children from nearly 200 countries.  Today, the post office still has its homey Christmas atmosphere. You can visit throughout the year, where you’ll find much more than a bustling mail hub. You can also shop around for Christmas souvenirs and browse items related to the study of stamps. If you decide to mail a letter of your own from the post office, it’ll get stamped with a unique Arctic Circle postmark. About 2 million postcards are mailed from the Santa’s Post Office to locations worldwide." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Santa’s Post Office in Rovaniemi is pure magic for visitors of all ages. Nestled right at the heart of Santa Claus Village, this enchanting little post office lets you step into the wonder of Christmas any time of year. Upon entering, you’re greeted by warm, festive decor and walls lined with colorful postcards and letters from around the world. The friendly “elves” behind the counter add a special touch, eagerly assisting visitors and sharing fun stories about Santa’s year-round work. One of the best parts is the chance to send postcards stamped with Santa’s official Arctic Circle postmark. They even offer an option to send Christmas cards that will arrive just before the holiday season, making it a wonderful way to surprise friends and family. The shop also has a selection of unique holiday souvenirs and charming Lappish gifts to take home.

You can spend as much time here as in any souvenir shop, if not more, and it's even entertaining. Checking out all those postcards, magnets, writing letters... You can send a Christmas postcard to your friends the whole year, including sending the postcard that will be delivered during the next Christmas. Or you can pay 8 Euro and send a letter from Santa to you or someone that you know, in a language that you choose from the offered ones. The ladies working at the cash desk were super smiley and friendly.

Time to make your friend green with envy and finally send that postcard to grandma who thinks you’ve forgotten her completely!

As part of an international carding community who send cards around the world, Santa Claus’ Main Post Office was a highlight of my trip to Lapland. Shout out to the, poor, lovely Emma who got lumbered with dealing with me at the till. She not only said it was great practice but apologised for being slow! I sent 30+ cards and postcards of differing weights to Europe and Rest of World so she wasn't slow! I picked a quiet point before the busy period so no queue was held up but she was also really patient, helpful and accommodating. Many of the carders I send to collect stamps and they'll be thrilled with the special cancellation. Found in the Santa Claus Village which is all very close and walkable and there are lots of car parks to choose from but this will obviously be very packed during peak season. Finnish Mail is also super quick and I received my cards in 5 posting days.

A must do! Here you see all the letters received around the world to Santa. You get to buy your cards and mail them to loved ones from the Artic Circle. My husband and I even wrote each other postcards and mailed them to each other. We will receive them around Christmas Day.

Lots of choice of postcards. Staff very helpful. Plenty of space to write them - lots of pens free to use too. Just need to see how quickly they get home now. Cool info boards - such as the delivered letters to Santa.

We posted this letter last Christmas (7 months ago, December 2024). Even followed the instructions to post it before 10 December to receive a reply BEFORE Christmas. Guess what decides to show up in July 2025. And with the most generic, ChatGPT response. Thank you so much.

Our visit at Santa's post Office brought the inner child to memories of Christmas. Here we could sit and write our letters to friends and family and also of course summer greetings to Santa. We had good enough of space there and meet some nice people traveling a long way. There was a place for kids also to sit down and draw.

Yelp
Every child's (and adult's) little winter wonderland dream come true. This is definitely an amazing holiday experience I highly recommend anyone to live through--whether you opt in to add it into a holiday tradition of your family's or just scratch off the list, it is a beautifully positive experience tapping into childhood memories of Santa's wish list and the tons of holiday movies witnessed in a lifetime. A must!! You are able to select whether you prefer the letters to be mailed out as soon as possible (same or next business day) or until Christmas arrival. Of course, everyone is extremely sweet and helpful. The only stressful part is to select your postcards because all are beautiful. Good luck!
