Santiago Guesthouse Hiroshima

Stayed here twice during my two separate visits to Japan. Stayed in the Family/Rooftop room so can’t speak for the dorm rooms. The room has space for 6 people with four beds, two queen size and two single beds. Location is about 10-15 minutes walk to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and 20-25 minutes walk to Hiroshima Castle.

Staff and hallway cleanliness were great. Fun international atmosphere. Latino receptionist was extremely friendly and accommodating, even had medical articles bought for me by his boss and delivered. What a sweetheart. Disliked : Shower had a yakitori stick on the floor, but thats not the staff's fault. Kitchen was basic and could use with some more towels and general cleanliness, again due to other guests.

The hostel is neat and tidy, big dining area where you can chill any time. The location is pretty good, the Peace Park is really near the hotel. I liked Hiroshima and staying in the guesthouse was comfortable

The hostel had a great location. The beds weren’t the most comfortable but you had your privacy. Toilets and shower were very clean.All in all a nice hostel to stay for 1 or two nights. For a longer stay I would recommend a different one because the beds weren’t that comfortable:))

The hotel manager falsely advertised the room on one of his partner websites. It was not enough for the amount of people we had with us. When we asked for a room change or whether it was possible to split us into dorms (which are far cheaper than the private room we had paid for). The hotel manager refused and said we could for an extra charge on top of what we paid already. Charged us for towels, toiletries etc. Did not cooperate and even changed photos on his website whilst we were talking to the receptionist to weasel his way out of having to give us a refund. Eventually got it though through the partner, but the hotel manager would rather kill his reputation than give the customer any sort of compensation or assistance. 0/10 would not recommend in a thousand years.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The hostel, with its communal areas, was very friendly. There were enough showers and they were clean, the beds were quite comfortable, the staff were very friendly, and so on. The location is great too, I managed to do everything I wanted on foot, apart from the journey to Miyajima. The staff told me how to get there and the route was more optimal than the one suggested by Google Maps. Perhaps the only downside was the noise from the ventilation at night, but that was fine.

I think I budgeted too hard on this one… The location is amazing, close to everything and surrunded by nice caffès and restaurants. BUT the rooms are warm and without fresh air. The beds are hard and the bathrooms/ common areas are not really clean. Some other guests were alcoholics which loud, rude and influenced the smell of the rooms, the staff didn’t really care about it. Outside of that situation the staff in general is normal and friendly.

If you are prone to getting bug bites, I would avoid this place. I spent one night here and got around 50 bug bites. Good location, just not very clean. ¥200 for towel rental. * Got 11$ refund because I left early… I probably could’ve gotten more if I didn’t ask for it super late
