Santorini Wine Museum

We had a truly memorable visit to the Santorini Wine Museum. The setting alone makes it special — an impressive underground cave carved into volcanic rock, perfectly reflecting the island’s unique character. The atmosphere is authentic, elegant, and beautifully designed, creating the perfect introduction to Santorini’s rich winemaking heritage. What truly elevated the experience, however, was Angela. From the very first moment, she made us feel welcome and comfortable. During the wine tasting, she shared her knowledge with genuine passion and professionalism, explaining each wine clearly while highlighting the volcanic terroir that makes Santorini wines so distinctive. Her warmth, attentiveness, and enthusiasm transformed the tasting into a personal and enjoyable experience rather than just a formal presentation.

She was warm, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable, providing detailed insight into Santorini’s unique viticulture and the island’s traditional grape-growing methods. The first wine museum I visited that is located in a natural cave. The 8 meters underground and 300 meters long museum took the Koutsoyannopoulos family 21 years to build. If you want to know the wine-making process and history of wine on Santorini, it is a good place to go. It showcases the development of wine making through exhibitions and audio-visual presentations. The museum provides audio guides in 22 languages. At the end of the tour, you can taste 4 kinds of local wines by the Kuotsoyannopoulos family. Also chat with the lovely Angela, who is a Greek- American. She has extensive knowledge on greek wines. It was a unique and fun experience to me. I particularly like the two white wines Angela served. I hope you also enjoy it.

Amazing winery and museum in Santorini. You will go through the history of wine making since 1880. You will have the pleasure to see machinery and the process of wine making since the early days. A true unique experience, at the end of the tour, Angela does an amazing job to guide you through your wine tasting experience. Do not skip this very unique and exciting experience.

We had a great time knowing all about Santorini’s wine history. How the two brothers started making wine out of scratch and later started to sell it. Angela was really welcoming during the wine tasting. She gave us great recommendations for restaurants too. Thank you so much.

The original and authentic wine museum. One of the top 7 in the world explaining the history of wine distallary in Santorini. The visit to the museum was followed by a short wine tasting with the lovely host Angela. She did not only explain about the various wines and their notes but also have us tips on what to do around the island in this winter month when everything is usually closed. Thoroughly enjoyed the orange white dry wine the most. Highly recommend a visit here. They have ample parking spots.

We visited the Santorini Wine Museum, Greece's only cave wine museum. Inside the cave cellars, we were given a guided tour of the history and culture of wine. After the tour, the museum's Sommelier Angela led us in tasting and introducing the local wines, making for a pleasant morning. I highly recommend visiting this place.

My mother and I booked a wine tour and tasting through our hotel concierge, Melanie. Upon arrival we were already expected and received a warm greeting. The historical tour in the cave was creative and very knowledgeable. The vine and grape cultivation is astonishing and gives a next level appreciation for the wine tasting. The last room prior to the exit was very well done with historical artifacts provided by locals in the region and even a retelling of how the islands were divided by volcanic eruption. The bar and tasting rooms are beautiful done and well appointed. Much to our surprise we were escorted to an elegant tasting room. A lovely charcuterie board was also provided. The highlight was the service provided by Angela. She is extremely knowledgeable and has a deep appreciation for the history of each wine. She also guided us on the pairing of each bite. Angela changed my perspective on dessert wines for the 2002 Kamaritis is now a favorite. Thank you, Angela for being a delightful host. We purchase 4 bottles, 3 of which we hoped to survive 2 flights back home. Thanks to your superb packing we can now share Santorini wines with our family for they are truly one of a kind.
