The 20 Best Things to Do in Bogotá, Colombia (Updated 2025)
"I stopped by the Santuario Nuestra Señora del Carmen in La Candelaria and was struck by its red-and-white striped exterior and interior (it looks like a giant candy cane); built from 1926–1938 and designed by Giovanni Buscaglione, it rises almost 60 meters and contains impressive Byzantine and Moorish art — it was designated a National Monument in 1993." - Matthew Kepnes
Beautiful church that looks like it is made from candy canes. The pillars look like they are made from candy. So vibrant and colorful it really matches the vibe of Bogota. There was a wedding going on when we visited, bonus!

Really beautiful church and it's one of my top three churches in Bogota. They have a mass at 12:00 noon on Sunday but when I went there at 11:00 a.m. they had already opened so it's possible to go inside and walk around and admire everything before the services start.

Magnificent! looks like a fanciful wedding cake from the outside and the interior is a joy. Calm blues, floral stained glass windows, moorish archways, murals, paintings, tiles …. just so nice 👏🏼

A beautiful place for worship, and just to visit. Remember to leave a donation as these amazing people have dedicated their lives to the betterment of those who have not

Intriguing architecture, both from outside (you can't miss it) and inside. A must-see landmark in Bogota.

Beautiful, if you want to see it inside. You need to be there at noon. They open daily at 12:00 for a mass. Otherwise you will only see it outside. We have to come back for that reason. It worth it!! Inside is much more beautiful that I spected.

Beautiful building but main church wasn't open for the noon mass on a Monday, only the basement.
