Our hotel in Paris happened to be a few blocks from an area with lots of Japanese restaurants. So, after passing in front of many restaurants several times on our way from and to the hotel, eventually we developed a craving for udon noodles.
We chose Sanukiya a bit randomly, mainly based on the reviews and the nice pictures. Perhaps because this place is very close to the Musée du Louvre and the Jardins Des Tuileries, to our surprise there was a line outside when we went for dinner. Even more surprising, perhaps, the line was mainly made of Japanese tourists[1]. Nevertheless we took this as a good sign, so we joined the line. The line was long but was moving, and eventually we were seated.
Our dinner started with Kakumi/pork belly. Yes, perhaps pork belly is more appropriate for a cold winter night than a hot summer evening, but I ate this delicious thing with absolutely no regrets. Give me pork belly this good every day of the year!
We then had 2 different udon dishes:
- Udon Misotama: Pork, miso, poached egg, and arugula.
- Udon Kamatama: Crunchy bits of flour-batter, poached egg, and grated radish, scallion. This udon dish came with a warm sauce/broth on the side, to pour over the noodles.
Both dishes were delicious: the noodles were thick and chewy, and the ingredients were fresh with lots of flavors. We thoroughly enjoyed these two bowls of udon.
I'm not sure this place is worth waiting 30 min/1h in line, as there are a lot of other Japanese restaurants nearby, nevertheless this was a nice dining experience, that satisfied our craving for noodles.

[1] Surprising for me; it's like if I visited Tokyo and then waited 1h in line to eat Italian food. Why?
