On the Grid : Sáo哨

"Sáo’s mentality is not only reflected in its name, but in its interior design: the eatery’s title means “thrush” and “twittering”, referring to the Vietnamese tradition of keeping birds as pets – thus birdcages hang from the ceiling here, symbolizing the atmosphere of home. Vietnamese and Chinese dishes constitute the menu, which carefully follows Asian traditions; you can order soups, noodles, rolls, desserts, and Vietnamese coffee – and enjoy them all in a lovely atmosphere." - We Love Budapest

We remembered this place from a previous visit to Budapest. Really excellent, fresh and tasty food. We were a little late arriving but it was not an issue. Service was fast and friendly. The red curry was very tasty with good depth of flavour and spices, the vegetable tempura crispy with generous portions and the mango salad had a lovely dressing. The only issue was that all dishes arrived at the same time and our table was simply not big enough! I would recommend this place if you love zingy, Asian food.

Small and cozy Asian restaurant with pleasant atmosphere. The food was tasty and fresh, we really enjoyed it. Prices are a bit higher, but the quality and nice environment make up for it. A big plus is the open garden, which feels calm and inviting – perfect for warm days.

One of my favorite places for Asian food in Budapest. The service, the atmosphere, and (of course) the food are magnificent. And I love the scent of incense in the indoor dining area. Having been to SE Asia many times, this place is the closest I can get to rekindling the memories I have from the streets of Saigon and Hanoi. Maybe just one suggestion, knowing that sugar is a staple in Vietnamese dishes, is that a bit less sugar would allow the flavors to fuse a bit better. But I am generally anti-sugar, so take this advice with a pinch of salt :) I will return for sure. Thank you for being such pros!

A very pleasant experience at Sau Restaurant in the Hegyvidék Shopping Center! The summer rolls were fresh, light, and full of flavor, while the pork dumplings were perfectly seasoned and deliciously tender. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere modern and welcoming — I’ll definitely be back!

An amazing restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere! The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The staff was very kind, attentive, and professional – we truly felt welcome. I also really appreciated the cleanliness of the place and the pleasant background music. We’ll definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience!

We had the pleasure of dining at Sáo Food & Bar and were absolutely delighted! We tried the shrimp pho – the broth was rich and flavorful, complemented perfectly by fresh herbs and perfectly cooked shrimp. We also had the pork and shrimp dumplings – tender wrappers with juicy, savory filling that melted in our mouths. The crispy spring rolls were packed with vegetables and mushrooms, and paired beautifully with the dipping sauce. Everything was accompanied by a light and fragrant jasmine green tea, which rounded out the meal perfectly. Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and a true culinary journey through Asia. We’ll definitely be back!

Really really good Asian dishes, a good change from the local fare and Vietnamese pho. Authentic taste and comes in generous portions. The mi guo (rice cake) is something that is hard to find even back in restaurants in Asia. Nicely done! So is the pork belly with rice.

I have ordered there tofu in peanut sauce and noodles. The food came fast and was hot. The peanut sauce was very, very tasty! I couldnt finish because portion was so big :). Unfortunately noodles was not included in the wok dish price which was unexpected and made bill higher (as the included 13%service...). I Think you can find cheaper and equally good asian food in Budapest.
