São Miguel Island

A dream island and the ultimate escape from the chaos of civilization. It offers everything the eyes find beautiful and the mind finds valuable. Peace, beautiful landscapes, nature, and that very isolation from almost everything we long to escape for peace and quiet. Much could be written, but nothing will capture the value of this island like simply arriving here and enjoying what it has to offer.

Sao Miguel island is a wonderful place to visit if you appreciate nature and kind people. It is the largest island in Azores. We didn’t get to explore all the beautiful places, but plan on coming back in the summer.Lagoa do Fogo had most amazing view and picture can’t justify the true beauty of it. Furnace was wonderful. Had lots of fun watching hot springs. Sete Cidades is on the west side and it has amazing views. Ponta Delgada- Sao Sebastião had a beautiful town that was decorated for Christmas. So glad we rented a car and explored the island. Can’t wait to come back.

This island was not what I expected it to be. We spent a week on the island and we managed to dive 9 times, go on several walks and drive across the island at least 4 times. There's so much to do! Tea plantation, lakes, view points every 5km, diving spots, geocaching, hot springs...the options are endless. Renting a car is unfortunately necessary. I hope the island public transport will improve over time. Oh, and try the seafood. It is worthy. Can't wait to go back there!

Absolutely breathtaking. The Azorean people are amazing… like the nicest you’ll find. The agriculture is top notch: clean and diverse. The tea factory, the gorgeous country side, the hot springs, Ponta Delgada, hidden beach communities, mountains, lakes, hikes… the list goes on. Epic.

This island is ideal for people who love calm environments. There are plenty of natural places to visit and enjoy the presence of green in every part of the island. It's a paradise on earth.

After days of exploring through mountains and valleys, and enjoying the food and wine, we have found a place where we can escape from our long winter. To all of the good people along the way, obrigado!

The biggest and most rewarding island to visit in azores. Lots of places to visit and discover. You can hike, dive, bath in hot springs, enjoy a boat ride, wale watching etc... Don't forget to try the local food.

This destination is a must add to your travel list of places to go! The island can be described as: If Hawaii and Ireland had a baby, Sao Miguel would be the baby. The food is great, the people are friendly, the scenery is breathtaking! I recommend getting an Air B&B in the city of Ponta Delgada and to travel about the island with a guide. I used Pure Azores Tours which was reasonably priced and fun!
