Sapphire House Antwerp, Autograph Collection

I live in Toronto, Canada. For approximately three decades now, I have been taking European vacation at least once a year. In the fall of 2025, I chose to spend five nights each in Amsterdam and Brussels, three nights in Antwerp and a night in Rotterdam. I had been to those cities many times before; I stayed in the same hotel when I could. ||I had only taken a daily trip to Antwerp before, since it was very close to Brussels. When I decided to spend three nights in the city this time around, I had to find a suitable hotel. I picked Sapphire House Antwerp, Autograph Collection based on the reviews. My reservation (# 99448204) was for the ‘Emerald King, Guest room, 1 King’.||On the down side, the room that I got looked nothing like the one on the hotel website (see the attached photos). Although I was only medium height, I constantly bumped my head and shoulders on the slopped roof. I felt claustrophobic. The room had no closet either—this was the first time ever that I have stayed in a hotel without a closet. On the other hand, the washroom was spacious. It was equipped with a shower. ||Although the hotel was only a kilometre away from the central train station, you may have to take ground transportation. I chose a taxi. As can be seen from the attached receipt, the driver charged me EUR 37.7 for the 1.1 km ride (USD 43.85 for 0.68 miles). It was the most egregious fleecing that I have ever experienced. Although the streets were deserted, he found a way to squeeze behind stalled cars and watch the clock tick by. When I got to the hotel, I tried to file a complaint with the company. I couldn’t find the website. ||The building that Sapphire House Antwerp occupied was magnificent. It was located in one of the quietest and safest areas in Antwerp. I don’t rule out staying at the hotel again, although I will ask many questions about my room before booking.

Very nice hotel! The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. The location is perfect, the service excellent, and the breakfast delicious. The staff is amazing, always smiling and willing to help. Thank you, Marco, for arranging all the lovely touches, and thank you, Vincent, for your warm welcome and the Colombian girl at the restaurant (don’t remember your name) for your sevice! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

A super historic building converted into a 5-star hotel, quick access to areas with shops and terraces. The staff was super nice. I highly recommend it. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar. The parking lot has a direct exit to the reception.

Last November we spent a great weekend in Antwerp with my wife, nephew and our lovely dogs. And of course we stayed at our favorite hotel, Sapphire House Antwerp. Why we always book this hotel? Because we feel like at home, because they treat us as family and the service is excellent. Who are the hotel staff who makes our stay always so special? Staying in this hotel was a pleasant surprise. Only three years old, it is welcoming and inviting with an attractive decor and a great location. The hotel is a combination of a 17th century building and a 19th century building, and Marriott has done a great job. It is inviting to be in its public rooms. Its guest rooms belie the age of the buildings: they are modern and spacious. |The location is superb - on a relatively quiet street in a lovely neighborhood just a few blocks from the old town center of Antwerp, which in itself is a lovely city. I would stay again for sure.

The front desk staff were friendly, and the room (304) was okay. However, later in the night we noticed the window had been left open, which explained the smell in the room and the presence of mosquitoes 🦟. We did like the bathroom. Breakfast, unfortunately, was disappointing. We didn’t receive a menu card like the other guests around us, and no cutlery was provided even though staff knew we were seated. The bread 🍞 didn’t seem freshly baked. The omelette I requested was good, but overall the food quality and service fell short of what I expect from a Marriott hotel. We paid for €400+ for 1 night, but waste of money.

One should be very careful with their belongings while staying at this hotel. My clothes went missing, and despite several follow-ups, the hotel management was unable to trace them. This is my first such experience with a Marriott property. I am a Platinum member, and this is the level of treatment and response I received. It truly damages the reputation and prestige of the well-known Marriott brand. I would strongly urge the authorities to take action on this.

This is a wonderful hotel with a grand and beautiful lobby. We had some problems here with the rooms, and had to move multiple times mainly due to cleaning or noise issues in some rooms. But, this hotel is set apart by its brilliant staff who are always accomodating, friendly, empathetic and kind. My experience with the night manager and hotel manager was exceptional, and for those reasons alone this is positive review and I would recommend staying. 5 star service that exceeds many other hotels. My only feedback to management is simply: - the premium rooms on the ground floor are marred by the choice of wooden flooring directly outside them. This is main walkway, and the sounds of conversations, footwear and doors are uncomfortably noisy. I would suggest at the minimum a rug; but ideally better soundproofing in-room. - Room cleanliness is patchy for a hotel of this calibre. - Consider a sofa and desk for guests in premium rooms as a single armchair is not enjoyable for couples sharing a room, and a desk to work is vital for most.
