Sapporo TV Tower is a must-visit landmark in the heart of Sapporo that offers a perfect blend of history, views, and convenience. Located at the edge of Odori Park, the tower stands tall and immediately catches your eye, making it an easy meeting point or sightseeing stop while exploring the city. The observation deck provides stunning panoramic views of Sapporo and the surrounding landscape. From up high, you can see the grid-like city streets, Odori Park stretching out with seasonal beauty, and even the mountains in the distance. It’s especially beautiful at sunset or in the evening when the city lights start to sparkle, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for photos. The tower area is surrounded by shops and cafes, so you can easily grab a snack or souvenir before or after your visit. The staff are friendly, and the experience is smooth and enjoyable from the moment you enter. Whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or with family, Sapporo TV Tower offers a great way to get a bird’s-eye view of the city without spending too much time or money. Overall, Sapporo TV Tower is a fantastic and iconic stop that adds charm and memorable views to your Sapporo itinerary.

On Friday 22/11/2025 at 4pm, as the snow started to fall and the sky darkened, we went to 札幌テレビ塔 Sapporo TV Tower. At 4:30pm, we watched the lights-on ceremony of the annual Sapporo White Illumination Festival. It was magical seeing the lights came on fron the Sapporo TV Tower observatory deck. I learnt that a Japanese Band called Hamburger Boys actually sang a song on Sapporo TV Tower. Pretty cute song and music video. Afterwards, we walked to Odori Park for the German Christmas Market and witness the breathtaking さっぽろホワイトイルミネーション Sapporo White Illumination, a spectacular light festival that celebrates the coming winter with dazzling LED displays. This Tower is 147.2 meters (483 feet) high, with an observation deck located at 90.38 meters above the ground. It was built in 1957 by architect Tachū Naitō, who also designed Tokyo Tower. The tower stands at the eastern end of Odori Park in central Sapporo, Hokkaido, serving as both a broadcasting tower and a popular tourist attraction. Its significance lies in its role as an iconic landmark of Sapporo. It was originally built as a TV transmission tower and now functions primarily as a repeater for local radio stations. The observation deck offers panoramic 360-degree views of Sapporo city and Odori Park, making it popular both day and night, especially during the Sapporo Snow Festival when the park is a winter wonderland. The tower also features large digital clocks visible from afar, enhancing its cityscape presence. It is a symbol of post-war modernization and the growth of Sapporo as a modern city.

Entrance fee is only 1,000 yen per adult, which is very worth it. No need to buy tickets in advance—you can purchase them directly at the counter on the spot. From the top, you get a beautiful 360° view of Sapporo City. I went during late autumn, with just a little snow on the ground, and the view was already stunning. I can imagine it being even more breathtaking in winter when everything is completely covered in white. There’s a souvenir shop at the top and another one on level 2 or 3 (I can’t remember exactly). They also have four stamp stations, and if you collect all of them, it forms a complete picture—fun if you like small activities like that. The tower is also located very close to Odori Park and the Sapporo Clock Tower, so it’s easy to include this in your itinerary if you’re visiting the nearby spots.

Entrance fee is now 1200 yen. It's really expensive for the small 360 viewpoint. Also, who ** thought it was smart to put a whole souvenir shop inside the 2 meter wide observation deck. It's using 1/4 of all the area and you can't see north clearly. Considering there is one before entering the building, and then before buying the ticket, and then you go to these 2 again when going down, I think the one in the observation deck is useless.

The Sapporo TV Tower is such a fun and iconic landmark right in the heart of Odori Park! 🗼✨ The view from the observation deck is amazing – you can see the whole stretch of Odori Park, the city skyline, and on a clear day even the surrounding mountains. Both day and night views are beautiful, but the evening lights of Sapporo are especially magical. The tower itself is well maintained, easy to access, and has a friendly staff that makes the experience smooth and welcoming. The little shops at the base also have some nice souvenirs unique to Sapporo. It’s not just about the view – visiting here feels like checking off a must-do cultural landmark of Hokkaido. Highly recommend adding it to your Sapporo itinerary – whether for sightseeing, photography, or simply enjoying the city from above! 🌆📸

We arrived at Sapporo TV Tower from Keio Plaza Hotel by walking, which took about 15–20 minutes. Since it was the weekend, the atmosphere was lively, but not overly crowded — a very pleasant vibe. 📅 13 December 2025 To avoid the cold, we walked through the underground passage, which conveniently leads directly to the front of Sapporo TV Tower and Odori Park. When we arrived, there was a German Christmas Market, and the whole area felt very festive and full of Christmas spirit. There were many beautiful Christmas stalls set right in front of the tower, making the experience even more special. This is definitely a must-visit photo spot in Sapporo, especially during the winter and Christmas season.

Went at night to overlook Sapporo. Very beautiful overlook and great vantage point. Can get a little cramped up there as there is a shop for gifts etc. but overall great experience

Google
A must visit when you're in Sapporo, centrally located in Oodori Park. It's probably the most iconic feature in the city where you can get a 360 degree view of the area. Crucially, the Sapporo Tourist Information Center is located in the 1st floor and it's the meeting point of all Hokkaido tours from Sapporo. Entrance fee is pretty cheap. You can also buy souvenirs.

Yelp
Sapporo TV tower is located next to Odari Park I went up here at night time to see the beautiful view of Sapporo. Overall it wasn't that busy and the elevator ride up was quite scary so if you are a little bit afraid of heights, maybe skip this. Going up kind of made me queasy. You can buy your ticket on the spot here! That is what I did and the view is beautiful.

Yelp
Sapporo TV Tower is defintely one of those tourist attractions where it doesn't look and sound very exciting, but you just have to go since it's your first time visiting and for the experience to say, "you've been there". The TV Tower is located on one of the ends of Odori Park. You can't miss it. It's your typical pay to ride an elevator high up. The cost is 1,000 yen per person. You ride the elevator to the third level, pay, and ride another elevator all the way to the top. Oh wait, you take a photo first before going up! Ok! You can enjoy the views on the way up, but boy, it made it a little queasy and uneasy. At the top, you can almost enjoy a 360 degree view of the city if it wasn't for a random gift shop taking up a quarter of the space. The highlight is the view of the entire Odori Park. Unfortunately, there was construction going on, so the views were obstructed, and the glass windows were dirty. Elevator down, and hey, your photo is ready! Oh, of course the print out with digital download is the best deal. I believe it ranged from 700 to 1000 yen. And there's also another gift shop. Overall, I can't say it was "fun" or "enjoyable". But hey, I did it! And I have an original photo (with digital download) as proof! But as with Odori Park, I'm sure when Winter is Here, it's a totally new experience.

Yelp
I didn't want to go up on the Sapporo TV Tower but the spouse did... EXPERIENCE: Located at the east end of Odori Park. A mutton BBQ eatery, souvenir shop and a jumping contraption adorn the tower's footing. For tickets to the 300-foot high observatory, head to the third level. Entry was 1000 Yen p/p. It's not a spacious deck though views were good. But, a good chunk of the viewing windows were blocked by retail shelves, photo booths and vending machines. Such a waste! OVERALL: Worth seeing if you have extra time and are into high vantage points.

Yelp
Sapporo TV Tower: You can't visit Sapporo without going to the TV tower. You just can't. At least that's what the brochure said. Anyway it made sense for Jamie W. and me to come here first when we arrived in Sapporo on our virginal visit. It's not that tall, about 500 feet, but there's an observation deck at about 300 feet, a pretty crowded space but with a nice 360-degree panoramic view. It was built in 1957 and looks it, but hey, for a 720-JPY admission ticket, you get a coupon for a free soft-serve in a kiosk back on earth. So who's complaining? RELATED - Traveling in Japan? Yelp
They charge you for going up the TV Tower, but the line is fast and you go up to the viewing platform, where you can get a view of Sapporo. There are usually a fair number of people on the platform but you get a cool view of the city.

Yelp
Looking at photos of Sapporo city, this was one of the places I had to come first. Fortunately for me, it was near to my hotel so getting there is convenient. The TV Tower is opened to the public, it offers a beautiful sight of the city. The day before, the weather was pretty bad and I was fortunate the weather cleared up that morning and I had a stunning view of the city and the garden. The city is so clean and the people are so kind, I was approached by a local and she told me bits about the city while I was on my way to the entrance, she encouraged to go up and have a look, its worth the deal. I did just that, the queue was short and I was on the top level within 10 minutes. I spent some time at the top, admiring the view and bought some popular snacks on my way out. Do come both day and night time, you see the difference and how magnificent the view is from the top of this tower, its part of Sapporo. Do check out its history and explore the park around it!
