Lion Lodge: The Cozy, Perfect Spot for a Night at Lake Nakuru
We stayed at Lion Lodge during our quick stop at Lake Nakuru, and it was absolutely the perfect accommodation for a single night, which is what we did.
Yes, the room itself was basic and a little dated, but honestly, this lodge has been operating since the 80s, so that’s completely understandable. The benefit of that longevity is clear: they know exactly how to run a national park lodge and cater to safari guests.
It feels incredibly warm and friendly—a genuinely cozy place to stay right on the edge of the lake. It's perfectly located near the park's entrance and exit, and we felt incredibly safe, thanks to the security and perimeter fences.
The food, though, was the biggest surprise. The buffet is incredibly good—far, far better than you might expect for a lodge of this style. The food was genuinely well-cooked, and there was a great variety.
The atmosphere is lovely. It's warm, welcoming, and they have a fire pit outside in the evenings where you can sit and enjoy a drink, which was a great touch. You know it’s a good spot when you see that all the local tour guides love staying there, too!
Bottom Line: The rooms could definitely use an update, but that's a minor detail. Everything was clean, comfortable, and maintained that authentic lodge feel. We would 100% recommend Lion Lodge for a stay at Lake Nakuru.
