Nature and Parks in Amsterdam

"Jewish philanthropist Samuel Sarphati fought significant battles to construct this small, manicured neighborhood park in lively De Pijp. The two-block rectangle of green is behind the Heineken Experience, just a few blocks from the Albert Cuyp market, making it a fine spot for a picnic with fare from the city’s largest outdoor street market. A monument of Dr. Sarphati is a focal point that testifies to the philanthropist’s dedication to creating the park in the 19th century." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Lovely park, if you have a dog or kids it's perfect for this, there are playgrounds and the feeling is that of a family park lovely to reside in, also the exchange of seeds and plants where some kids work as well to sustain a healthy community of flora and fauna, a good conversation is also in the cards if you sit here enjoying the calm oasis in the busy city life. If you like working out there is a huge area to do so and the community seems active as well. Also the possibility to play some ping pong 🏓 and make new friends, the coffee is especially good and this new startup uses fairttrade beans and the some of the customers make their homemade sirop to enjoy.

lovely park, great section for the dogs to be let off, nice park areas for the kids & plenty of benches along the way.

I visited Sarphatipark a few times for picnic and just enjoyed the sun! Lovely space, great vibe, there were benches, clean spaces and dog friendly. There’s an area for kids and overall organised separation with a picnic area. Highly recommended for a break from work or just absorb a bit of nature!

My favorite park in Amsterdam. One of the reasons why I chose to live in the area of de Pijp. It’s super beautiful all year round as you can see from the pictures and definitely worth a visit. Super small but so beautiful and serene. It also has a dog park where you can enjoy watching cute dogs play with each other or even swim in the lake :) It has outdoor sports facilities and a playground for kids but I would recommend visiting for a walk around it.

Sarphatipark – A Hidden Gem in Amsterdam’s East Sarphatipark is a lovely and peaceful park tucked away in Amsterdam’s Oost district. This charming park offers a relaxing atmosphere with beautiful green spaces, serene ponds, and wide paths perfect for walking, jogging, or a casual stroll. It's a great spot to escape the busy city life and enjoy some quiet time in nature. What sets Sarphatipark apart is its local, laid-back vibe. While it may not be as large or famous as other parks in Amsterdam, its cozy, community feel makes it a favorite among locals. It’s ideal for picnics, casual outdoor activities, or simply sitting on a bench to enjoy the surroundings. The park also has a playground for kids and is surrounded by trendy cafes and restaurants, so you can grab a bite or a coffee nearby. Whether you're looking to relax or explore a quieter part of the city, Sarphatipark is a peaceful, lovely spot that shouldn't be missed!

Cute park in De Pijp. Best during warmer times, then you can have a nice picnic.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood park for jogging and children play. There is a stroller path for walking around the large open grassy area. Walk to the foot bridge over the pond of water. Fee paid toilets and a coffee bar to get a refreshing beverage. This is a great place to get out in the fresh air.

Yelp
Sarphatipark is a medium-size park in De Pijp. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this park, but it might be a nice place to stop and rest. A few ponds and some benches. A thick wall of trees shuts out the rest of the world.

Yelp
Very nice peaceful park to take a load off and sit on a bench and watch the world pass by...in the form of joggers, dog walkers and ducks swimming. There is a fountain and plenty of benches to relax and people watch. We sat for about 1/2 hour and saw about 10 dogs and just as many ducks swimming in the pond. Nice large trees and worth a visit after shopping in the nearby Albert Cuyp market.

Yelp
According to one of the locals with whom I became best friends, Amsterdam only gets about 10 nice days a year. Evidently, I am the luckiest man in the world, as I was in town for three of them. Sarphatipark is the perfect place to spend one of these rare, lovely days, and everyone and their Dutch mother must have agreed because it was packed with young picnickers grilling, drinking and just enjoying the sunshine. Even so, there was enough room to stake out a spot under a willow tree and watch the ducks swim past while enjoying all that Amsterdam is known for. There were a few joggers doing loop after loop past us. I didn't appreciate them making me feel lazy so on one of their circuits I got in my 3-point runner's stance and sprinted past them to assert my dominance. They pretended not to notice my superior athleticism. All in all, an absolutely perfect lazy day. Except I did spill sun-dried tomato oil on myself. I don't even know why I buy white shirts.

Yelp
After having had a bunch of training in my hometown of east-Sussex I decided to go on a mini cation to beautiful Amsterdam. And my lord how jolly swell the public parks are!! I'm very impressed. A++!

Yelp
Sunny days means picnic time in Amsterdam! Sarphati park is one of the urban parks located near the Depijp. The park is named after Samuel Sarphati who was recognized in the community as an urban innovator. This is one of my favorite parks in the summer to take a stroll with my Dutchman. Normally we roll out the blanket and get comfortable with a picnic basket and a bottle of wine. Although. the park is very small, you will find a large variety of people here on any given sunny day. The green space is mixed with ponds, wooded fringes, and a beautiful fountain in dedication to the great Samuel Sarphati.

Yelp
Sarphatipark is really a small but very beautiful and cozy park! I like it more than Vondelpark because it is less busy and touristic. There is a seperate place for dogs to hang out and als a basketball field. Also there is an area to do some exercises and even 2 tabletennis tables! So just have a great picknick or chill down with some drinks at the park during the sunny weather! :) One negative point is that you are not allowed to have a BBQ anymore...

Yelp
It's a nice park! Great to walk my Sasha :), although she's not too keen on it. The park is normally full of dogs and mine doesn't like crowded places ;). I really like it that the park is divided in two parts. On one of them the dogs aren't allowed. This means: clean :)

Yelp
Sarphatipark is very close to house, only a 8 minute walk, and I'm very glad. Since I do not have a garden and my balcony is very small and narrow this is a great place to relax on a summer day. I also like to walk here in winter and feed all the birds and ducks, there are many of them here, especially ducks. Sarphatipark is quite small but it is very beautiful and cosy. The trees are big and there are many great spots for picnicking. There are also BBQ spots! Very nice in the summer. This place is always lively with all kinds of people; students doing their homework outside, mum's with little kids, people with dogs, people just having a walk and groups of friends eating or having a BBQ. I'm very glad to have this place near!

Yelp
Such a beautiful little park in De Pijp. There was a bit of sun one morning, during my stay in the neighborhood, and I had a lovely time walking around this green space. Very relaxing in a quiet day!

Yelp
Another beautiful park in Amsterdam. Bikes are not allowed on most of the paths throughout the park but are allowed in the park. We parked our bikes and walked around or you could walk your bike to an area and sit down and chill. Lots of benches throughout the entire park. Bring a blanket and feel before you sit down. Sometimes the ground was moist in areas.

Yelp
If you have a dog, grab some snackables at the Albert Cuyp and swing to this park. Friendly locals with even friendlier dogs.
