7 Hotels With the Dreamiest Outdoor Showers — From the Maldives to Mexico

"An outdoor shower is one thing; an entire outdoor bathroom is another. At the Safari Collection's luxurious Sasaab lodge in Samburu, you can indulge in a healthy dose of natural exhibitionism: Bathe in the buff while herds of elephants do the same just outside your spacious Moroccan-inspired room. Under the cover of a thatched roof, but still exposed to the elements, the open-air concept quickly makes you feel at one with your surroundings. Said surroundings also include a private aquamarine plunge pool, which is ideal for cooling off in between game drives in nearby Samburu National Reserve." - Travel + Leisure Editors

This hidden gem should not stay hidden. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there. The staff is very attentive, the food was excellent and the safari drives were fascinating. They also provide fun side activities (like camel rides, ATV rides and visit to a local village) if you don’t want to go on a safari the whole day. The animals in Samburu shouldn’t be missed. The “Samburu five” can’t be found elsewhere.

First of all the food was AMAZING! If you are a middle eastern traveler do not fear the menu here because the entire theme is Moroccan including the menu and most of the food comes from the local community. The accommodations are beyond first class. A design and atmosphere that blends seamlessly into the Samburu countryside effortlessly and delivers absolutely stunning views from the lodge. The game drives through the nearby park which you also experience on the drive in and out show off some of the most beautiful wildlife of Northern Kenya. Reticulated giraffes, giraffe gazelle, Grevy’s Zebra, and Besia Oryx dot the road and hillside along with Elephants, impala, and many more. At the Lodge itself cute little Dik Dik Gazelle and lazy little Hyrax abound and are charming little additions to the atmosphere. The service is second to none. Staff are considerate and kind as well as quite knowledgeable as to the surrounding wildlife. The local Samburu community is very warm and welcoming and it is reflected in every encounter in the area. Definitely consider the expedition out here with The Safari Collection.

Wow.. what a beautiful place ! As soon as you arrive you are warmly greeted by the amazing staff. You are given a briefing of the property and then escorted to your room which has an indoor/outdoor Moroccan feel and gorgeous! My favorite was the bathroom.. so beautiful! The game drives with Murisha and Washington were spectacular, they were so personable and made a wonderful bush breakfast for us and catered to our every need. They also are very knowledgeable of all the animals and Samburu people. We were lucky to see giraffes , elephants, lionesses, lions, and leopard. Highlight for us was visiting a Samburu village. Very cultural experience. This was the 1st property that we visited out of The 4 Safari Collection locations we booked and it was amazing start to our adventure. Managers Juan and Alzon were the nicest couple and checked in with us periodically to make sure everything was smoothly during our 2 night stay.

Out of all the incredible destinations on our honeymoon, Sasaab Lodge was hands down our favourite. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will never forget. Our guides, Murisha and Washington, were incredibly knowledgeable, making every safari outing feel like a true adventure. Seeing cheetahs, lions in action, and even a leopard making its way to the cliffs was breathtaking. The Samburu 5 and the diverse wildlife sightings were beyond our expectations. One of the highlights was the incredible bush breakfast, which was nothing short of 5-star dining in the wild. The visit to the local Samburu village was also a humbling and eye-opening experience. Back at the lodge, our "tent" was more like a luxurious villa, with views straight out of a dream. Sasaab Lodge was the pinnacle of our honeymoon, and we hope to return one day. We would recommend this to absolutely anyone—10/10!

We travelled to Kenya through the Safari collection and were lucky enough to stay at all of their properties. I cannot stress enough how amazing this experience was - each property has a unique personality and should not be missed! Sasaab was extremely special, offering beautiful lodging, wonderful staff, excellent game drives, and cultural experiences. We were even surprised with a cookout out in the bush by a big fire. The food and service were phenomenal. And I highly recommend paying to add the cultural experience to your itinerary! They even left beaded key chains on our pillow as a gift. Nothing was missed and they clearly put a lot of thought and personalized touches into each stay! Highly highly recommend! Hopefully we will be back soon!
