15 Quirky Places to Visit on Your Next Colorado Family Road Trip

"Jim Myers opened the Sasquatch Outpost in 2014 and the museum followed in 2016. He originally opened a general grocery store at the location, but after talking with locals about Bigfoot sightings in the area, he decided to convert his store into what it is today. When visitors first walk into the outpost, they are immediately greeted by a large Sasquatch statue. The store is filled with novelty items such as t-shirts, patches, and socks that feature the legendary creature. Inside has a magical forest vibe and is decorated with trees and twinkling lights. There is a small cave for children to walk through and see a tiny Sasquatch sleeping. They also sell a variety of accessories and offer guided Bigfoot themed expeditions.  There are also plenty of signs and photos of Sasquatch, along with a map of Colorado where Sasquatch has been sighted and a variety of footprints. This small museum is a fun spot to visit whether you’re a believer or a skeptic." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
Great little spot if you’re in the Bailey or even Denver area. This is the shit I love about America, little family owned roadside oddities that promote discovery and wonder. I was impressed with the museum and knowledge of the kid at the counter, you can feel their passion and I think that’s rad. If you want a place that still feels like America, go here and do the museum tour, you will make a memory for life.

Sasquatch Outpost – Bigfoot, Big Fun, and a Big Exhale from Real Life Spent the 4th of July up in Bailey, CO, because sometimes you just need to ditch the chaos, breathe in that mountain air, and go look for mythical creatures. Naturally, we had to check out the Sasquatch Outpost, because if you’re going to decompress, why not do it with a side of cryptid curiosity? This place is small but packed with charm—think: Bigfoot's personal gift shop meets cozy mountain town museum. Tons of souvenirs (yes, I bought stuff I didn’t know I needed), and the quality was actually great. Nothing cheap or tourist-trappy, which was a pleasant surprise. We also checked out the little museum, and I gotta say—it was both fun and informative. Did I leave a believer? Maybe. Did I leave wanting a Bigfoot bumper sticker? Definitely. The staff was super friendly and helpful, too—clearly fans of both Sasquatch and customer service. Bailey itself is a sweet little town with a whole lot of heart. If you’re ever in the Evergreen area and need a break from reality, this is a worthy stop. Great for families, Bigfoot fanatics, or just folks like me looking to walk off some stress in the mountains and maybe spot a furry legend.

I am changed. I don’t know a better expression than I am changed. Bigfoot? He’s out there. Trust me…you will be changed. Sasquatch outpost is a different place. Wow. If you’re in Colorado and think the mountains are wonderful, come here and you’ll be shocked. I am changed.

My 21 year old son and I loved it. We went in as believers and left as believers. My 13 year old daughter got kind of bored. She went in as a non believer and switched to maybe they exist. The price was awesome! $8 & $5 bucks. Took a little over an hour and that was reading everything. I've already recommended to others to check it out.

Google
Fun place for a quick shop and little informational museum with some really well put together exhibits. Museum well priced for what it is. Remember Bigfoot is not a belief system hard evidence exhists! Explore more!

Google
What a fun Big Foot shop, they even had some things I had never seen before. Was even a man selling fresh Squatchy donuts from a food truck.

Google
On a trip to RMNP I told my wife I had to come visit. I really enjoyed it and my wife who has zero interest in the subject said it was fun. They had some really cool animatronic displays and footprint casts. Nice gift shop. I am a hopeful skeptic when it comes to this topic but it was a fun 30 minutes and worth the nominal admission price. Would recommend!

Google
7/7/24-This is one of the great little tourist traps you can find in Colorado. Really great for bigfoot lovers. They even have some of the prints on display which really puts things into perspective if you watch any of the shows on TV. The exhibit does have one spot that is hard for people to navigate let alone if a person has mobility issues. It is a steep little hill that you also need to duck for while in there. Besides the exhibit they have a large gift shop that is free to go into and has a variety of products at all different price ranges. I highly recommend stopping here.

Yelp
So hear me out, for a small space, they really pack it in for you in the best way! Sasquatch Outpost is such a fun and unique experience! For those that love following Bigfoot, you'll have an endless supply of Bigfoot merchandise for purchase. There's a museum in the back that's completely unsuspecting as it's just beyond some saloon doors that opens to a whole Sasquatch world! There's educational movies playing, a map to mark where you're from & where you're sitings have been, there's even a big photo opportunity area with a giant Bigfoot to immerse you into a nighttime forest scene. Truly, that room feels straight out of a movie set! I highly recommend this fun stop! It's one that needs to be at the top of your list should you visit Bailey!

Yelp
All things Sasquatch. A niche market but they do it well. I like the socks and artisan soaps. A wide selection. Never done the museum. It's been around for a great while. It has grown over the years. A local legend. Try visiting. You'll be glad you did. Tell your friends.

Yelp
This place is worth the visit, no question. For a teeny place (seriously small), it packs a real punch. The size actually adds to the charm and authenticity. I went in for a lark, but found myself asking real questions along the way. The video in the "cave room" is awesome, and does a good job analyzing the clips presented. This museum is clearly created and maintained by a true believer. The souvenir game is on point, and please get a penny roller installed here -- it's a perfect location. I'll be back when I'm in the area, and I'll bring friends. I believe.

Yelp
This was such a fun way to spend a couple of hours! Lots of great information and interactive exhibits. The gift shop was also huge and had lots of fun stuff!

Yelp
hat a fun experience! We went on my birthday, and it was such a great choice. The owner greeted us when we arrived and set us on our way to the Sasquatch tour. They did an amazing job of creating an atmosphere that truly felt like you were in the heart of Sasquatch territory. We absolutely LOVED it! While the space is small, they made excellent use of every inch, and we even learned a lot along the way. At just $8 for the tour, it was an incredible value and well worth it in our opinion. I'd definitely go back again!

Yelp
My family always stops here when in the region. They carry a great selection of T-shirts and other items. The museum is awesome and informative. I participated in a rabbit hole Sasquatch expedition adventure as well, I definitely recommend it!!!!!

Yelp
Fun, family owned museum and shop. Drove 1.5 hours out of my way to visit and I'm glad I did.

Yelp
7/7/24- After living in Colorado for most of my life I finally made it to this place. It is a nice little tourist trap. They have an exhibit that includes the casts and a map of Colorado where there have been sightings. They also have a great gift shop with a variety of products at all different prices. Parking is super limited. Also there is one spot in the exhibit that is hard to navigate and super hard for people with mobility issues. You have to duck down while stepping down a super short and steep ramp. There is also pot a potties outside. I would recommend checking this place out.

Nathan J.

Yelp
Very fun and informative. Definitely worth the visit. Not sure I am completely convinced but I would never want to live in a world where there was no sense of mystery and wonder.

Yelp
Cute little gift shop, play area and informative museum located in middle of nowhere, Bailey, CO. My son was too young to enjoy the activities and toys but he loved the massive Sasquatch mannequin at the door. I got myself some sweet $5 socks and coconut oil soap that looks like Sasquatch's foot but smells of lemons! The lady at the counter was goofy and sweet. Prices were great. We definitely recommend a quick visit if you're passing through.

Cassie B.

Yelp
Fun little Bigfoot history tour with some fun facts. Nice gift shop with a variety of Bigfoot themed gifts.

Yelp
This is my second Bigfoot museum in several months. Went to another one in Oregon, and now this one. The museum was nice, but a little small, not as much to do or see. A bit disappointed but the store was large and had much to purchase. It was cheap to go through the museum. Not much to do like the one in Oregon.

Yelp
Went here with my family during our Colorado road-trip and it was the highlight of the entire trip!! Small but worth while!

Yelp
We stopped by here on our way to Winter Park one day. I've been meaning to visit the Sasquatch Outpost for years now! Clearly a lot of effort has been put into collating this collection of Bigfoot lore. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer it's a great way to spend a half an hour or so. My only complaint is the cost for kids. Our six-year-old was bored in under five minutes. Perhaps kids under 10 should be free? If we'd spent less on entry we would've bought some of the cool Bigfoot souvenirs they had on display in the gift shop. (Which was bigger than the museum itself!)
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
So.... Much.... Fun!!! The gift shop is incredible, so many fun products!!! Highly recommend the museum, very interesting and entertaining!! We spent a few hours there and had an absolute blast!! Learned so much! Don't want to tell the most interesting part, you have to discover that on your own!! Love this place!
google avatar

Germanie J.

Yelp
We drove 1.5hours in the snow to get to this place lol. But it was worth it! My bf is a believer and fascinated with Sasquatch so we treaded through the mountains and made the journey. Really cool shop and nice owners!! They have a variety of souvenirs from cups to shirts, to Sasquatch poop lol. The museum is really cool, you can tell they put a lot of time and effort into making it a success. We enjoyed it!!!

Evan S.

Yelp
The family running this place is great! Very friendly. The museum tour was fun for us and our kids!
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! My boyfriend and I happened to see the sign for it on the highway, and quickly pulled over to check it out. We weren't disappointed! I'm always looking for unique things to see and do on our road trips, and this was right up my alley! The museum was small but interesting, and I really dug the gift shop! I'm telling all my friends about this one :)
google avatar

Jody I.

Yelp
This is a cool little place to visit. The place was packed yesterday but nobody was going through the museum. $8 for a 10 x 15 room is wu too much.
google avatar

Britt C.

Yelp
This is such a little gem. It's not very big but I keep coming every few months because I love Bigfoot so much! They just recently redid the inside of it and it looks and feels like you are in the woods and I could seriously spend hours there. Maybe a Bigfoot cafe? Recommend to everyone! It is kid friendly
google avatar

Cedric D.

Yelp
My girlfriend is a big believer so for her birthday I took her here and absolutely enjoyed the experience, and even made a little bit of a believer out of me.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Had a fun time here. Took granddaughter, she had fun too. Not a huge place, but lots of Sasquatch facts, pictures, statues, and memorabilia. Well worth the time and fee. Nice leisurely drive into the mountains. Stopped on way back and had Beau Jo's pizza.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
I love this place! I am from Colorado, but nearly 2 hours away from the Sasquatch Outpost so every time we go camping in that area I make it a point to stop here. We just went this past Friday (5/29) and I hadn't been since they remodeled. They don't sell Carhartt items or nearly as much camping accessories anymore. I assume they stopped because they didn't sell much of it, so I understand that but I personally did like seeing all the extra items they had to offer. Now it is even more Sasquatch themed, but that's what'd you'd expect from it! It's still a great, cute little shop that I will continue to stop by every time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
It was worth the long drive to visit this interesting museum. There were lots of professional quality displays about this mysterious creature.
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
I specifically went out of my way to come here after I saw it on some random list of "goofy places near denver." BEST. FIVE. BUCKS. I'VE. EVER. SPENT. There are things you just didn't even know about Big Foot that you will learn. I personally am on the fence about it's existence but if you are down for a good time, this is definitely the place to go. The souvenirs are worth it on their own. I got a coffee mug that says "Bigfoot doesn't believe in you either" and that's the kind of demotivation I need sometimes. I can be better Mr. Foot! I can make you believe in me! Worth it, 100%.
google avatar

Miguel C.

Yelp
Such a cool local spot. Love the way they focus on story telling as well as local occurrences. Very small location but worth the drive out to bailey. The shop has really cool souvenirs as well. If you're driving to or from Denver on 285 it's a great pit stop. Make sure to watch the video they have. Love the effort put in by this family. Will definitely go again with the kids. It can be a quick 20 minutes or you can spend a solid hour and a half there.
google avatar

Psycho B.

Yelp
Such a fun place to visit! So many Big Foot souvenirs. The museum is a definite must see.
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
My daughter has been wanting to stop in for a while and we finally made the drive up yesterday to do so. We had a blast! The museum was informative and well put together. We got some cute items from the gift shop, as well. Totally worth the drive!
google avatar

Brock H.

Yelp
Awesome place for any Bigfoot enthusiast. Very well maintained and great for the entire family. A must see and worth the drive!
google avatar

Wilbur M.

Yelp
I spent 5 bucks to go to the Sasquatch Museum and spent the next 3 days talking about it non-stop. It's campy and cool and a great topic for debate, the store and museum are a great stop and their stickers and shirts are awesome. I enjoyed voting whether or not I believed in Sasquatch and for the record, I voted yes!
google avatar

Arielle B.

Yelp
Great prices on souvenirs. The lady that was sitting at the register was so very nice. Fun place to go to if your passing through.
google avatar

Yelp
Hello, The Sasquatch out post is expanding and the adventure continues I have been going since the doors open and now Jim and I are good friends Jim has put a lot of research and time in this Museum and well worth the trip to Bailey ,Colorado not to far from Denver , well worth the trip...
google avatar

Katherine J.

Yelp
Neat place, I always take guests here. Right mix of whimsy & seriousness on the subject. Do the tour!

Anna G.

Yelp
We came to visit Bailey, just to stop here. It was worth every second! Everything Sasquatch that you'd ever want or need is here! T-shirts, key chains, mugs, decals, socks, sculptures, etc. They also have a small museum in the back that is full of pictures & information about Sasquatch! It was fascinating & totally worth the visit!!! There's also a photo op at the end of it! If you need things for your trip, there's a small non-Sasquatch side too. The owner was friendly & had lots of information on the area. Definitely glad we stopped here!

Krissy S.

Yelp
I love this place! The museum is always growing and I love seeing new stuff every time I come!

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in on a snowy day in Bailey. We absolutely loved the them, the feel and all of the merchandise!! But above that the team was so out going and kind. They loved all over my son and was so sweet to my family which meant a lot. to me. We love what we bought but we loved how we were treated. Thank you.

Yelp
No longer a grocery store, but great gifts and info on bigfoot. Plus Carhartt clothing and camping/fishing supplies.

Leslie S.

Yelp
The Sasquatch Outpost is a great addition to the town of Bailey. Jim and Daphne are really nice and they stock the store with a variety of goods. If they do not have something you want, just ask and they will try to get it for you for the future. They have good coffee, free WiFi, and tables and chairs indoors to take a load off. The store has been remodeled, but maintains it small town, mountain charm. I am so glad it has reopened and in good hands!
