I wandered around the outside, so cute, secluded overlooking river- hard to get booking- was at Total Tennis on labor day sightseeing, discovered this place it’s a bit of a mucky walk-through mud and reeds… You can also get to it from a boat, which is probably much cleaner, but it’s so romantic on the edge of the water and an old old lighthouse rustic vibe .someday I wanna stay here, the outside and walking around the porch wrapping around. It was just so cute.

Google
Pay attention to the tides!! You cannot visit at high tide. A short walk through a preserve over a few wood bridges. There is water on both sides of the walk and at high tide they meet. Wear proper footwear.

Google
I can't comment on the rooms or service since we didn't stay here. It's about a half mile hike to the lighthouse, some on boardwalks. You can only view the lighthouse as the walkway around it is closed off. Nice views of the Hudson River when you get to the lighthouse.

Google
The walk is very easy but hot and humid most days. The lighthouse area and house are closed on weekends 🙃 but you can still get to it and take some pretty pics as I did for my daughter's maternity shoot.

What a beautiful hide away. Visiting the local area and come across this little gem Googling. Not sure how crowded it normally gets, but went on a Tuesday and off season in October, it’s pretty quiet and chill.

The Saugerties Lighthouse is a beautiful and historic gem. The lighthouse was built in 1869. Today it is possible to take a scenic hike to it, take a tour of it, or stay overnight in it. The nature trail to the lighthouse is open daily. The trail to the lighthouse is an easy half mile walk. The trail offers scenic panoramic views of the Hudson River. Be sure to check the tide table that is posted online to avoid tidal water on your hike. The lighthouse is actually still used today as an aid for navigating the Hudson. If you’re interested in tours or staying overnight check the Saugerties Lighthouse website. Parking for the lighthouse is easy and the nature trail starts from the parking lot. Overall, the lighthouse is a nice piece of history located on the scenic Hudson.

Its magiçal. I don't know if its better or worse to not have known there was a lengthy little hike. I was totalky unprepared in flip flops but once on the trail its absolutely breaktaking! Wild flowers and cute foit bridges to cross over pockets of water. There are breaks along the folliage on the path that levels amazing shore lines and water you could swim in, like a small lake/ beach. At the end of the path you step onto a floating dock that appears to be at level withthe water and then you see the vastness of thr lake set against some of the high hills and Mountain like peeks. It was so invigorating! If you are new to outdoors/hiking this is exvellent for someone like myself.

I haven't rented this house as of yet but a very nice location. Water is all around the house and you have a great view of the osprey nesting with babies on a pole in the water

Yelp
Saugerties lighthouse was a cute little stop. They have a small parking lot and then you need to walk a little less than half of a mile to get to it. The walk is partially on either boards, sand/shells, or just dirt. I thought it was a fairly easy walk. There are a few signs that say a few spots are impassable if it's high tide or a lot of rain because it floods so just something to consider. The lighthouse itself is unlike any other I've seen before so that was cool. They have tours to see the inside (we didn't do this) and they have a bed and breakfast (also didn't do this but would totally be willing to try it). If you walk to the other side they have a small like picnic area on the dock that was super cute. Definitely a fun quick stop. Oh! And it's dog friendly (just need to keep them on a leash and pick up after them of course!).

Yelp
This place is really cool! There aren't any other lighthouses that I know of in the immediate area of the Hudson Valley that is accessible on foot (without a boat). During the week the lighthouse deck is open so you can walk to the back deck to enjoy this place up close but on the weekends the deck is closed to guests that might be staying the night. You can actually lodge at the lighthouse which is even cooler than just visiting the outside. The walk to the base of the lighthouse is an easy walk but don't arrive too late because the tide could be really high making the walk likely very muddy or very wet to pass. Parking area is super small so arrive early to ensure parking or you'll have to wait in your car for a spot to open up. I wouldn't advise parking on the grass of the adjacent coast guard property since there are signs that say come back if there is no parking likely implying "If you park here you will be towed" but signs don't explicitly say that so beware if you park outside lot.

Yelp
There are three things to review here, and we give them all five stars. (1) the conservation lands and trails are really unique -- you go through a riparian biome literally out into the middle of the river, where during restricted hours you can hang out on a deck and watch the world go by. There's boats, trains, birds, and even the occasional fish! It's really one of those trails worth walking in four seasons, as the landscape and riverscape are constantly changing. (2) the Lighthouse and little museum -- do yourself a favor and try to time your walk for a tour. The Conservancy has done an amazing job of bringing the lighthouse back from the brink, and the little museum and restored keepers' quarters will give you both a slice of life as a lighthouse keeper and a great bit of insight into Saugerties, the Hudson valley, and maritime history. (You may want to follow up with a visit to the Hudson Maritime Museum on the other side of the river). You can get up into the light room -- a bit smaller than coastal lighthouses since the light didn't have to be so big, but still a great view. (3) we also finally were able to spend the night here in the B&B. I can't say enough great things about the experience. The Keeper, Patrick, makes you comfortable, then leaves you alone before coming back the next morning to cook you a fantastic breakfast. (You do have to plan ahead for your other meals, including bringing in any gear or provisions on the walking path.) Then you are master of your own two little islands for a little while! It was an incredibly peaceful and restorative experience, and while it's $$$$ it's not so much if you bring the full compliment of four people, and we thought it was absolutely worth it 100%. The two vintage rooms you can sleep in have two-person beds, but there's an extra cot in one, so I think you can technically get five people in. They are very basic, although there's (weak) WiFi and you can't tax the electrical power, they were completely comfortable. If you're interested in this option, search for 'Saugerties Lighthouse' and check out the B&B info there. I would give the experience six stars if I could. It's a completely unique overnight stay.

Yelp
It's a really beautiful lighthouse but takes a bit to walk to... When you first go into the parking lot, be prepared to bounce a bit because the unpaved gravel lot is severely neglected. The walk way to the lighthouse isn't as neglected but could use a little bit of NYS $ for improvements but the present female Governor of NY could give a rats ass about such an iconic lighthouse. Doesn't cost to go there. Parking is limited.

Catherine P.

Yelp
The lighthouse is beautiful and the trail to get there makes for a lovely walk. The sound of the Hudson tide lapping up along the path and little bridges is very soothing. Amazing views of the Hudson & ospreys too!

Yelp
Been wanting to come here forever, I could definitely see it being hard to park on a weekend. We came during the week and we got one of the last spots. I could also see it being hard to walk if you even can after it rains. I see someone saying high tide and I can see that. I mean the water was coming up when we walked along but it was walkable. A very nice walk actually, the water right there is nice looking. Perfect thing to do with a toddler and my mother who literally complains walking around the block. One of our favorite things we did while on vacation was coming here.

Yelp
Nice and quick hike that is accessible for the whole family. The road to this lighthouse hike is well marked, and has a small parking at the start of the actual trail. It's only around 1/2 mile all the way out, and most of it is a nice walk over the swampland via walkways. Would recommend wearing at least shoes, as the water chestnut (AKA devil's horn chestnuts) are quite sharp when dry. If has rained recently, it may be a bit muddy. There are also times where the trail is inaccessible during high tide. However at the end, sweeping views of the Hudson via the lighthouse itself are the reward. There is a small picnic area at the end if you want to bring a lunch, including port-a-potties. This is not a must do (particularly for experience hikers), however it is very worthwhile for novices or those who want to go on a quick walk.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
What a gem! The trails aren't long and there isn't a lot to see aside from the lighthouse but it's worth the visit as it's really a unique site. Be prepared to get muddy if there's been recent rain but they provide boots to borrow about halfway to the lighthouse (approx .25 mile from the trailhead). The views are really pretty and it's a romantic place to visit :)

Yelp
Not your traditional light house this is one is off the coast and looks like a beautiful cottage in the middle of nowhere. Secluded and serene, definitely one of the most beautiful spots in Saugerties. Grab a picnic basket before heading here and enjoy the quiet. The lighthouse also serves as a bed and breakfast and you can rent two rooms in the summer to get some much needed R&R. Sounds like a unique experience! PRO TIP: the path to the lighthouse is not stroller or baby friendly. If you're taking infants upto the age of 2, consider wearing them in a baby carrier.

Yelp
I thought it would be a fun idea to check out the Saugerties Lighthouse as a kid-friendly walk. It was easy to find using Google Maps, which took us right to the parking area. The small parking lot is at the trailhead, and we had no problem finding a spot on a Saturday mid-morning. When we came back out, there were cars parked along the road as well, so it does get busy and seemed to be a popular place. The trailhead has a lot of information, including tidal information, as the trail can be covered by water at high tide. Keep this in mind as you should plan your visit accordingly. The trail is short, about .5 mile each way. It is very flat and alternates between dirt, sand, and boardwalks. The only thing you may want to watch for are Chinese Water Chestnuts, which are an invasive water plant, and is very sharp. If you are wearing something like cheap flip flops and step on one, it could puncture your shoe and possibly your foot. My husband did get one that punctured the bottom of his sneaker. There are several openings in the grasses and vegetation where you can get a clear view of the Hudson. The kids even dipped their feet in the water, taking our time as we made our way up to the lighthouse. We also saw an enormous ship go by. The lighthouse is connected to the shore with a dock. There are tours available on Sundays during part of the year, and you can even stay as a guest in their Bed & Breakfast. We were there on Saturday, so there was no tour, although there was someone selling Lighthouse merchandise. There is a very lovely picnic area on the far side of the lighthouse, so you can sit on the dock and enjoy the scenery. I loved everything about it.. the rustic tables, succulent bowls, and the views. We brought only a few snacks, and if I were to go again, I'd bring some better food to enjoy and really relax. There are restrooms by the lighthouse (portapotties, to be exact, but nice to have a bathroom), making this very family friendly and allows you to take your time and enjoy your visit without worrying about things like your children needing to make it to the bathroom.

Yelp
I fell in love with this place. My bf and I were heading back from a weekend away when I saw a sign for the lighthouse and made a sharp turn right towards it. The trail leading up to it isn't too long, but there are some sandy areas so wearing sandals was helpful. The lighthouse itself is gorgeous. You can frolic in the water or take a tour of the lighthouse (about 20 minutes long). I can't wait to come back and kayak around it! I'd avoid the port o potty's....not a pretty sight.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL place! My boyfriend and I went for a weekend upstate, and it was fantastic. A little flooded, so maybe keep in mind to bring good boots. They have boots there that you can borrow, however, that drives me a little bananas (I still put those shoes on tho). We took great pictures. The vibe was beautiful. I just highly recommend 10/10. Wish we had a place like that back home.

Yelp
Beautiful half mile walk to the lighthouse. If you read the informational plaques, you'll see a tide chart - parts of the trail get wet during high tide. Maybe my common sense wins here, but if I know I'm going to be doing any kind of walking (county fairs, hikes, nature walks, etc) I try to wear or bring sneakers. Parts of the trail are very sandy as well. There was benches and tables periodically along the trail, and the lighthouse building is well maintained! It's a beautiful piece of history. Where the original lighthouse was, they made a picnic area with gorgeous rustic tables. Also, there are 3 geocaches if anyone is into that - we only found 2, so we'll definitely be back!!

Yelp
This is a wonderful wooded and watery trail out to the Saugerties Lighthouse. Only problem is, high tide comes two times a day, and if you come too close on either side of high tide, you might not be able to walk out to the lighthouse itself. C. and I arrived around 1:30 p.m. and began the hike only to make it so far. The river tide overflowed the trail, and we were unable to complete it. On the way back, we made it past the floating wood-plat bridge but had to take off our shoes to navigate where the water overran the shale splinter-covered walkway. Tip one: Mind the tides. Tip two: Take off your shoes the first sign of high water. There's no need to jump and skip across a bridge that you could just walk across and avoid getting splashed. Kudos to the community members who helped protect this structure, which had been out of use for decades. Preservation done right! Five stars even though we didn't make it to the lighthouse itself? Yes, the hike is that cool.

Liam N.

Yelp
Quaint and bucolic! What it lacks in size it makes up for in experience. Met a very friendly tour guide, I didn't get his name. Guy in 30s super kind and made the trip here special with a ton of fun facts. Was a perfect stop en route back to city from the mountains.
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
Very cool excursion to take if you are in the area. This is an old lighthouse in the middle of literally nowhere. In fact you have to venture for about half a mile through the woods on foot to even get here (unless you are arriving by boat) The lighthouse also apparently serves as a bed and breakfast. It's quite beautiful to behold and I'm so glad that this community was able to get together and save this place. If they hadn't it would be nothing but a decaying rubble at this point. I definitely recommend making the hike. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Mid-week my significant other took me to the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy, also or otherwise known as "Saugerties Light", as I had never visited the Lighthouse despite it being local. The Lighthouse is managed by a non-profit organization that purchased and restored said Lighthouse in 1986 Although, it's Coast Guard service ended in 1954, the Saugerties Lighthouse has been identified as one of the historic Light Stations in the state of NY! This place is a nice landmark on the Hudson River that is open to the public filled with information to educate one's self on the history of the Lighthouse as well as a small half a mile nature trail walk which leads you to and from said spot with an amazingly beautiful scenic Hudson view and picnic area! However, please check the tide schedule and weather prior to visiting as minimal flooding can occur on the path twice daily. I would recommend and encourage others to visit the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy at least one time if they are from Ulster County and have yet to do so!

Yelp
I have never stayed at the lighthouse. I love the trail to there. I just like to hang out there. It's a beautiful walk and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind if I carried my kayak there and launched it.
google avatar

Sydney B.

Yelp
Step through the wooden arch at the beginning of the short trail to escape from town on a short scenic walk to a charming lighthouse. (About half a mile, no incline.) Forest meets beach as the trees change. The path is sandy, so keep your footwear in mind (and perhaps the tide schedule). Then walk right up to the old lighthouse (now a small inn), or sit at the various public benches along the way or near it. Keep an eye out for ducks and more on your walk.

Yelp
Currently living in North Carolina but lived in Saugerties 40 years ago, my 85 year mother wanted to visit Friendly Saugerties "one last time". Part of our weekend sightseeing was a visit to our beautiful lighthouse. Never went there when we lived in Saugerties, go figure. Having bit off a little more than we could chew, mom was a trooper and made through the challenging path to the gorgeous view. It was worth the adventure but not sure she would do well having to return the way we came. So, how to get her back? Anna, the current lighthouse keeper, was so, so generous and arranged a water taxi to get my mom safely back to land ho! As we waited for the taxi to arrive, Anna gave a well informed history of the lighthouse, so interesting, and we learned it's a non-profit, depending on donations from all of us. So we salute you, Anna, and hope others will give to this wonderful historic landmark! PLEASE DONATE . . . https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=-q3TvdjwdPAp_N3PQHRCX7R-I1CRB-ZN-5tAHL1-Vxr4GiDnWP5swqczoUkG87lN9Pw_s0&country.x=US&locale.x=US

Yelp
Just came here to visit it, but it was gorgeous and so peaceful. I can totally see bringing a romantic partner here for a getaway weekend.

Yelp
Best place to walk with my dog. I try to go there at least a couple of times a week in the warm weather and its never the same twice. Check their website for a tides table or wear your rubber knee high boots. Its a great place to clear your mind and stare out into space, watch the boats go by,see little planes fly by, kids playing, swim, dig , fish ,and sit in the sun. And picnic. I absolutely love it. And so does my dog Effie! By the way, dogs are supposed to be leashed on the Lighthouse trail.
google avatar

Yelp
Of all the stunning views offered in the Hudson Valley, this is by far the quietest and most serene. Walking along the path is almost like walking through a dream. And at the end, you are confronted with something that is a reality but feels like more of a dream than all the rest: the Saugerties Lighthouse. It truly has a magical feeling, and makes for a very relaxing afternoon. One of my best experiences here was visiting around sunset. I got some spectacular pictures out of that adventure, what with the backdrop of the trees and the lighthouse behind us. I also had a picnic here once that was a lot of fun. There are picnic tables along the path leading to the lighthouse so there's no need to sit on logs or in the sand. It's definitely worth taking a look around, and the best part about it is it's free!
google avatar

Yelp
A must see on a Sunday or during the week. A restored lighthouse that is now a bed and breakfast, two good sizes rooms. You have the use of the kitchen and outdoor grill, they have a public use picnic area and swimming area. They have tours that start at noon , also small museum and for a small donation and a nice day out you get to go up to the light tower. The walk to the lighthouse is a nice wooded area that is about a half mile walk in and out, this area is well kept and has plenty of spaces for pictures and sitting and enjoying the view of the Hudson river.
google avatar

Pamela S.

Yelp
What a surprising, quirky building that makes for a delightful detour! It's a quick 20-30 minute add on to your exploration of Saugerties. The flat 1/2 mile out and back on sandy (occasionally muddy per other reviews) ground, (sneakers or waterproof sandals are probably best) brings you to the picturesque building, and a wraparound deck with picnic tables. All of the outside areas are accessible to the public. Bring a picnic if you can plan ahead -- or just walk out, take some incredible photos, and head back.
google avatar

Jaime M.

Yelp
Breathtaking views all around and leading up to the LH. Every view was postcard worthy and the picnic area is great! You can even bring your dog so long as it's leashed and you curb... wet ground = muddy paws though. It was perfectly crisp and dry when I visited (mid-Oct.) so the tide must bring in some water from the East side if the tower.
google avatar

Tricia R.

Yelp
i'd like to thank yelp for putting me onto the lighthouse. the 1/2 mile "nature trail" from the parking lot to the lighthouse could easily get flooded over high tide, but we were fortunate enough to not have experienced that. also, the 1/2 mile seemed significantly shorter. once there, the lighthouse is pretty small but quite pircturesque in its surroundings. there are benches and chairs all around it, and a picnic area behind it; i think there were about 6 or so tables. there are stairs into the water if you're so inclined... or you can sit under the trees like we did. there is one porto-potty. that's it! but it's definitely cute and i'd actually like to come back over the winter when it's all covered in snow!

Yelp
A Pretty Little side Trip to stretch the Legs, enjoy nature, and see history.

Yelp
Great to show this spot to city friends who will just stand with mouths open at how beautiful it is!

Yelp
love this hidden beauty. 1/2 mile nature hike, dog friendly, picturesque. lovely shady deck/sitting area perfect place for a picnic overlooking the Hudson. lighthouse tours available for a "suggested donation". will be returning and bringing lunch next time

Yelp
Very nice half mile nature trail leading to a small lighthouse. It takes you right up to the river.Saw assortment of red wing blackbirds, heron and a woodpecker. You can walk on the outside of the lighthouse and can pick nick on the benches .The setting is lovely .There may be lighthouse tours but I doubt they would be all that interesting. This is a must if you are in the area.

Yelp
Nicest hosts in the most beautiful place on earth. Seriously like a dream and the breakfast is the best you'll ever eat! I'm obsessed and tell everyone who will listen to go up and visit these magical humans! Hope you get to experience this gem!

Yelp
This definitely not a place to go to if you are wearing sandals. Ground is wet, muddy. Once you walk through that 'nature' muddy walk you get to the Lighthouse expecting lots more. It's just an old building you can't get in. I can't believe people actually stay there. The view is not even the best view, just water. People can actually go there to bathe in that water, but who wants to walk all that walk to get in muddy water. There are no vendors, there is no food. This is not for the public or a day trip. This is a privately owned building that rents to public to stay there. I was totally disappointed. Never again.

Curtis B.

Yelp
I've been out to the lighthouse several times and never had an issue with the tide, but maybe I've just been lucky. It's a nice walk through the "woods" to the lighthouse and on a nice day it is truly a spectacular spot to sit and have lunch or just sit. If your lucky to end up being the only one out there the solitude can't be beat. A nice spot to take some nature pictures or just let the world pass you by. If it was closer to me I would go MUCH more often. Did I mention it's totally free? You may want to throw a couple of bucks into the donation jar though, its worth it!

D R.

Yelp
Beware the Tides! Check the tidal charts and the tide clock at the trail head! The trail is impassable without your wellingtons at high tide. Below high tide, the walk is great! It is a great view of the Hudson from various lookouts on the trail.

Anna L.

Yelp
Lovely lovely place. Make it special with some planning, bring a picnic lunch to eat in their picnic area outfitted with tables that look out over the Hudson River. Bring fishing poles if you want to fish off the dock at the lighthouse. It's mostly catch and release, but springtime, a fisherman said he caught a 44" bass this year. You can even find worms on the hike to the lighthouse, look under rotten tree logs and use a plastic bag to catch your fish bait. We caught 12 fishes, in 4 hours. :) But we released for fear of polluted waters. Great for kids!

Judy G.

Yelp
Lovely Lighthouse to walk out to and see the Hudson, We stayed over night, The innkeepers were very pleasant and a lovely home cooked breakfast in the morning. The deck and swimming area is open to the public until dusk, so we did not have the quite or space we thought we would have. It was very crowded. Our suggestion would be to have a "reserved" picnic table for staying guests. The only one open to us was smack in the sun, I would of liked to have sat under the tree or at the picnic table on the other end. Another suggestion would be to have 'reserved" parking for the guests as well. It would only be two spots since there are only two rooms. We had to park in the over flow and carry our bags a bit farther than we thought. Other than those few suggestions we enjoyed ourselves.

Mry B.

Yelp
I love coming here. Iv been here for all four seasons, and each one has its own charm. It's one of my favorite places to take my dogs for a walk. And yes I pick up after them! (For those of you that don't pick up after your dogs, shame on you) the only advice I would give anybody about coming here is be careful if you are barefoot, the water chestnuts are everywhere!

Eric G.

Yelp
If you have a little spare time, spend it at this great little spot on the river. Tranquil and beautiful. we love to bring the dogs here and they always seem to make friends, just remember to bring a clean up kit.
