"SAULT New England is a curated men's boutique carrying clothing, accessories, books, stationery and gifts for guys. The shop brings about a nostalgic classic New England vibe, offering local brands like Declaration and New England Shirt company as well as Unbranded denim, Jack Spade bags, grooming products and gifts. Owner Philip Saul does an amazing job with visual presentation of the shop using materials like repurposed pine for flooring, terrariums and old maps to create a warm, woodsy atmosphere catering to the modern New England man." - Adam&Co.

My wife purchased me a shirt for my birthday. It did not fit. We brought the receipt to the store and were informed that they do not do refund. They only do store credit even if you have the receipt even if you bring it back the next day or within a 30-day window etc. This was not mentioned to my wife and they actually verbally encouraged her that she could return it if it did not fit or if I did not like it. To their credit their is a small sign at the register outlining their unique return policy. I was forced to take store credit and the cashier told me it was because they're a small business and can't afford to do refunds. I own a small business and I do refunds. I find this deceptive and misleading. I ordered something on their website and I'm not that happy with it as it's purportedly a "Hand Crafted American Clothing Company" with a small tag that says "made in China. The quality does not fit the price tag. I'll keep it to finish my experience with this store but will not be returning in the future.

We were in Boston for the weekend for a Red Sox game and we ventured to Tremont for a day. This neighborhood was so great, very good energy and things to do in the area along with some great food spots nearby. We were given some local spots around the area by the man running the store. He helped us find a few more shops along Tremont which were great too, Olives + Grace being one of them! The selection of goods in Sault definitely were displayed eloquently, and they had great size runs in styles that represent the fashion of the region and place you right back in New England!

Google
Fantastic online experience. Besides a great selection of items they also have super responsive customer service.

Google
SAULT New England is a small, primarily men's clothing store that somehow has everything I need. They focus on casual, often American made, and skew towards preppy. If there's such a thing as New England fashion, this is where you'll find it.

Google
Everything about this store is amazing! They carry really high quality products from great brands. I love how much they focus on selling items that are made right here in the United States. The staff is always very knowledgeable and friendly. Both this location and the one in Portsmouth are fantastic places to shop!

Stephen Dings

Google
Great store featuring high quality 🇺🇸American, 🇺🇸-regional, and international made brands. Staff are friendly, helpful, and help you see the value behind the price. Looking forward to the future!

Google
I dropped by recently to buy my brother a gift. They have a wonderfully curated selection of apparel, accessories, and random doo-dads! Beer soap, aftershave, scarves, bags, you name it. Every guy should own things from this place! The cherry on top is that the service was excellent, so go here! You'll be supporting another local business that deserves it.

Google
The masculine wares inside this smartly-designed South End boutique are a tribute to quintessential Yankee style - that of the JFK, knit tie, and Bean Boot variety. A great gift destination, here you'll find clothing, accessories, books, decor, and ephemera for the impossible-to-shop-for guy who has everything - even if that guy is yourself! The mix of merchandise is varied in both price and scale, so during the holiday season you can count on being able to leave with at least a few stocking-stuffers that won't break the bank. But, if you've got the time (and budget), allow the store's incredibly helpful staff - including Phillip, the gracious and ever-present owner - to guide you through their carefully-selected vintage inventory or pick out a locally-designed tie... one that the recipient will actually wear!

Yelp
Great spot for men to pickup casual clothing, shaving and bathing supplies or a small section for women. Don't forget to check the balcony out back for discounted items.

Damien S.

Yelp
Every time we're in the South End on a gifting mission, we hit the triumvirate: Olives & Grace, Gifted & Sault. O&G for foodies and misplaced Brooklynites, Gifted for baby showers, and Sault for man things. It's our system and it works. From beard balms and pocket combs to Kennedy fashion and wooden iPhone accessories ( yes, a log that charges; yes, a case made of maple), Sault plays right in to modern gentleman's slim wallet - a statement on minimalism, mind you, and not on the amount of coin necessary to play. (Spoiler alert: it's high. This is the South End after all.) Easy to browse and impossible to resist, Sault makes me feel like I did when I was a kid in the mall, and my parents let me have five minutes in a Kaybee Toys. Which may fall on deaf eyes to many, but let's just say it's an abundance of joyous zeal and Christmas list making.

Yelp
I have shopped here many times and while I don't always purchase, I always enjoy their selection. It's defiantly one of the best men's stores in the Boston area.

John C.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of goods with a number of excellent "house brand" items that I have enjoyed. Excellent customer service in-store, online, and over the phone. Inviting store (both here and in Portsmouth) with fantastic visual merchandising. Clear vision throughout makes for an enjoyable shopping experience. Keep up the great work!

Alicia R.

Yelp
Really amazing selection of reasonably priced, high quality men's goods. Speaking as a girlfriend shopping for a gift, the store clerk (who I believe is the owner) was unusually kind to me in an all-men's establishment. A+ customer service and really great, somewhat nautically-themed. If you're heading for Cape Cod anytime soon, this is the place to prepare.

Emann B.

Yelp
This is exactly the kind of local stylin' joint I dream about finding! Excellent mix of new and vintage pieces (mostly new), personal grooming products, and a selection of household gifts. The aesthetic is a nice mix of boho woodsman, modern prepster, with a touch of sexy Jesus thrown in (mostly due to the affable and handsome proprietor Philip). An absolute must for every man, any age.

Joel P.

Yelp
Sault is a must-visit shop in the South End. A must. It is small, yes. It is pricey, yes yes. It is fun to visit, browse, and find new items each season, yes yes yes. It features tons of locally sourced items and has unique men's items, cards, gardening stuff, and pet stuff, yes all around. Aaaaaaaand then, after all that shopping, you get to check out with a ridiculously nice and good looking staff member... which is a serious yes.

Chris C.

Yelp
A brilliant addition to the small unique shops that make the South End such a great destination. Owner is super friendly, a little quirky, just like his store. Really great stuff, and not the same Frank chotchkies you'll find everywhere else. Someone compared it to Motley, and it's very similar in size, and general feel. But while Motley is for your college cousin, this place is for your grown up, metrosexual brother.

Annie J.

Yelp
This cute little men's shop is unique compared to say, J. Crew, but less unique when you compare it to other hipster man shops. They've got all the trends you'd expect to find in a place like this: mustaches, ampersands, terrariums, etc. They also carry all the brands you'd expect to find: Jack Spade, Izola (manly flasks), Forage (bow ties), Map Totes (of Boston), etc. I appreciate that they sell locally made button-down shirts, although I wish they weren't $145. If you're a lady, they've got a good selection of letterpress cards (of course), and other knick knacks like candles and soaps. Design wise, I think this place is lovely. Everything is perfectly arranged and they manage to fit a lot within a small space without it feeling cluttered. It kind of feels like an Anthropologie for men. Sault is definitely worth checking out, although it's not quite as quirky as it wants you to think.

Ernest B.

Yelp
I have shopped here many times over the years and while I don't always end up buying something, I always enjoy their selection. It's one of the best options in the city for casual men's clothes.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Fantastic boutique, wish there were more places like this in Boston! Great selection of high quality American-made products, with a friendly staff.

Erin C.

Yelp
The selection is very small but very well-curated, for the guy who likes quirky classics. It's basically like if you took J. Crew and unique-fied it. A lot of items are locally sourced, which I like. And the prices are very reasonable. My boyfriend got really nice tailored shorts here for less than $50 (I can't quite remember). Also, the owner here is very friendly and knowledgeable so a very pleasant shopping experience will be had by all!

Steve N.

Yelp
I'm really into this store. I used to go to Lionette's quite a bit, and I am amazed at how well this space has been transformed. While the South End has long been a mecca for dining, the retail end of things continues to lag behind. Stores like Sault will hopefully pave the way for more interesting retail stores to follow. While it ain't cheap, it's not unreasonable considering the quality brands available at the store. It's terrifically curated, and worth a look if you're down in the Tremont area. The neighborhood is better with stores like Sault around.

Scott Z.

Yelp
The place to go if you're searching for that "smart longshoreman-meets-urban-lumberjack" look...which we're all after, am I right you guys? This place is awesome, and right up my alley. So many cool wardrobe pieces and little knick knacks. I truly can't walk in here without buying at least something... As others mentioned, its very well curated and the products rotate constantly so there's always something new to check out. Chatted with the owner a few times, who is super nice, and happy to talk about the micro-details of a product, the designer, the construction, where he sources it, etc. SAULT continues to be my favorite men's store in Boston (sorry Uniform), and luckily its steps from my apartment.

Logan J.

Yelp
ive said this about other places in previous reviews, but this kind of store is my favorite. i love these places that have random home goods and little gifts; stores that you can stumble in and wonder around when youre out walking around on a sunny saturday. in some ways, this place reminds me a little of motley, which is just a few blocks away on tremont. its a really nice mix of home goods, stationary, and clothes. everything was pretty affordable too, which i definitely appreciate. there were a lot of flannels and button-ups, and they had a pretty good range of prices. they had some second-hand pieces that were reasonable ($30) and some more expensive designer shirts ($80+). this place is definitely unique though by the fact that its more rustic than most places in the area. in addition to the clothes, they had a nice selection of home goods--just little, trendy soaps, lamps, etc. they had a lot of fun coffee table books that i spent some time looking through. the space itself is really unique also--it seems that it was intended to be a private studio apartment. when i was there, they had opened the back door and displayed some of their goods on the back porch--a fun surprise. in total, this place was a fun place to poke around for 20 minutes. the space and type of goods were definitely unique. i wished they had more items, but with the shop being in such a small space, they do a good job in variety and quality. ill be stopping back to see any new additions theyve acquired in coming months!

Yelp
YES!YES!YES! Great buyer, great merchandiser, great branding! I am pretty sure they are all the same person, however, Sault got everything correct. they have great brands and fair pricing, esp on sale. It is a shop with such a focused point of view, if you like one thing you like everything!

Granger K.

Yelp
Made an effort to check this place out this past weekend, and it certainly did not disappoint. For those lovers of all things New England and Prep, this is your new home. From vintage Polo, L.L. Bean, and Gant button-downs, to classic Kennedy Prints and Busts, this unique gem in the South End is a new go-to for all your east coast treasures. I will be returning very soon to check out their Assouline books and other preppy knick-knacks.

Yelp
In my quest to shop locally this year, I stumbled upon Sault to see if I could find a messenger bag for my husband. The bags were way out of my price range, but I did find a few trinkets for my sister and my brother-in-law. This is the perfect spot for the man in your life - books, accessories, barware, and other manly things. The person working there (owner?) was very friendly, and the whole shop smelled like a pine candle, but not overwhelmingly so. I hope it continues to do well!

Tanu K.

Yelp
Quintessential, New England style. That is how I would sum up Sault. I needed to find stylish, unique (read - not that J crew shirt that every male owns) button down shirts for my husband for an upcoming trip. When I entered the store, the owner guided me through the shop and introduced me to the various brands that they carry. He helped me select shirts in my husbands size (I had forgotten to note his shirt size but the owner was accurately able to guess his size just through my description). The verdict? My husband got so many compliments on these shirts that I went back and bought him a couple sweaters and scarves. My favorite purchase from this store was a beautiful cognac colored leather weekender from the brand Stolen Riches.

Eric F.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this boutique shop on my way to brunch and what a cool place! It immediately reminded me of a J.Crew Men's Shop...always a good thing. There's a great selection of clothing and accessories including this sweet Jack Spade messenger bag...if only I could even remotely afford it haha. However, the sale section was very much affordable and included some awesome, unique wallets. Will definitely have to come back sometime and have a closer look.

James N.

Yelp
Great curated selection. Local brands + other more well known, but overall the quintessential New England style.

Wayne C.

Yelp
Boston needs more independent gems like Sault that help create a sense of neighborhood and unique style, unlike the big chain clothing/lifestyle stores. The owner is a super cool guy who really takes his time to help you understand the merchandise and provide guidance. He has a good sense of style and it's obvious he curates his collection carefully. I feel hipper just being in the store!

Wind W.

Yelp
Quality, not quantity. This place does a tremendous job stocking men's fashion. I think I've been able to buy something every time I've been in. The guys that work there are super helpful, and never come across as pushy.

Erin S.

Yelp
Popped in here recently to buy new bathing suits for my husband for an upcoming vacation. Salesperson was very nice. They had a great selection of men's bathing suits to choose from (and other nice stuff for men and also women but I was on a mission). Return policy of store credit was no problem because the store has a great selection of stuff. Overall a lovely experience and I love supporting local south end businesses!

Matthew R.

Yelp
Great for stuff for dudes! Interesting merchandise, if a bit small.

Jimmy H.

Yelp
So happy we have Sault in the southend they have the best merchandise this place reminds me of Motley another Southend Gem gone hope Sault sticks around..

Élan V.

Yelp
I love this store! Being from out of town, I didn't quite know where to go. I love mens rugged stuff combined with rustic home furnishings. Another store owner nearby recommended if I only have one place to go, to go here. Boy, I was not disappointed. The window from the street already looked quite interesting and inviting. I couldn't wait to come in. When I did, I couldn't get enough. I circled the store like 3x. The hipster store keeper was very informative, and friendly. I wish we had one where I live!

K R.

Yelp
If I lived in Boston, I would shop here all the time. The owner is incredibly attentive, charming, and has a great sense of style for the shop and merchandise. I have bought clothes, home decor, and gifts here (even salt!), all of them quality merchandise. Yes, it's a tad pricy but well worth it. Plus it feels good to support a local business.

Sylvie D.

Yelp
This is the coolest new shop in Boston! Sault has this urban-woodsy chic thing happening. It is really well put together. There was a bunch of great stuff for guys -a bit of vintage sprinkled in with new goods. I especially loved all of the moss and plant terrariums. Excellent gift selection of candles, soaps, t-shirts and Jack Spade bags. This spot is low attitude and high style. It is worth stopping in to check out uber cool dressing room and the little back porch.

Peterson B.

Yelp
Sault is great mix of main-stream and underground product/brand discovers that you'll be happy you came across. Somehow or another I find a hidden gem that I purchase that fortunately doesn't break the bank. A great Boston find.

Iaroslav M.

Yelp
What a great store! lots of crafty things, nice clothes. Very good customer service. If you are looking for a nice gift for your male friend-this is your place!

Sarah C.

Yelp
One of my favorites in the South End, mostly for men, but I always find cool gifts here. The owner is super nice and friendly. Head to the back of the store for artisan food choices. I like the selection of honey at the back of the store.

Henry H.

Yelp
Sault houses a small selection of quality hipster items--it's somewhere I would expect to find on a GQ-type list of places to shop in Boston. The staff member I met was incredible helpful and friendly. Just beware though, most of their items are pretty expensive.

Richard Z.

Yelp
This place is crazy fun. Lot's of unusual not to be easily found elsewhere stuff from do-dads to men's clothing. Always been able to find an item I couldn't live without or the perfect item for a gift. This place is professionally run, always immaculately clean, organized and just well laid out.

javier v.

Yelp
Great men's store in the south end! The merchandise is fantastic; from cool casual clothing to books to awesome candles. Definitely a place to go to next time you are looking for something special for the man in your life.

Summer S.

Yelp
I traveled to Boston from DC to see this boutique! Well, it wasn't the sole reason, but it was a great perk. I first heard about Sault NE on the internet; it got great opening press from people whose opinions I admire. I knew I had to make a point to check it out myself and I'm so glad I did. I spent about an hour browsing and quizzing Philip, the owner, on what it's like to open your own business and his goals for Sault NE. Philip is personable, informative, and passionate about his work. The shop has a great collection of new and vintage goods with a focus on menswear and fun knick knacks to add personality to your home or office. Prices are all over the map with enough low-end to balance out the high-end. Do yourself a favor: visit Sault NE, buy some stuff, get to know Philip, support a local business, and the world will be all the better for it. Some of my favorite goods include the screen-printed T's that Philip designed himself, the hand-made stationary, and Fox River Mills red-heel "monkey socks."

Debra W.

Yelp
Brilliantly curated - sophisticated, fun, irreverent and beautiful in one. Excellent eye for design, staff is very approachable - loved my visit and my purchases ... will tide me over when I'm really home sick for NYC. LOVED this great find!

Matt B.

Yelp
Can't believe I've lived in Boston for four years and never knew about this place until this week. Small store but packed full of moderately affordable clothes, accessories and grown-man toys. Walked out with only two items but it easily could have been ten. The owner is very approachable and treats customers the right way. If you're in the area, this shop is highly recommended.
