What an AMAZING lunch today at Sauma with Brendan Pang! So much flavour, beautifully presented, so delicious! Great attentive service and oh those Sauma cocktails perfect! Thanks for a wonderful lunch!

The food was nice and freshly prepared. The service was great and atmosphere was fantastic for a late lunch for two in Sunday afternoon. We ordered the grilled barramundi in banana leaves, lamb samosas and grilled squid to share. We were happy and enjoyed the food.

IG: @foodydesserts Brendan Pang x Sauma Street Food Adventure🍽️ This collab brought together MasterChef Brendan Pang w Sauma's Head Chef, Gurps Bagga, resulting in a vibrant celebration of Indian street food infused w innovative twists😝 Each course was thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, showcasing the chefs' roots!😌 The event was a testament to the power of collaboration, bringing together two culinary talents to create an unforgettable dining experience🤪 Every plate of mine was wiped clean but below are the dishes that left a lasting impression on me🫶🏻🤤: 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒘𝒏 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒂 A perfect start. Sweet, tangy pineapple & pickled notes danced ard the tender slightly crisp Shark Bay prawns 🦐, elevated by the crunch of chickpea khakra crisps;D 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒍 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒏 Tandoor-roasted to juicy perfection, this had a balance medley of heat 🔥, aromatics, & herbs 🌿 The tomato kachumber added acidity & brightness which further elevated the overall dish! 𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑽𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒐 𝑺𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓 This version is bold & satisfying 🍔 Hitting all the right notes, spicy 🌶️, tangy, sweet, & tender. Loved the Indo-Chinese Manchurian sauce!!!💗 𝑪𝒐𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑭𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒊𝒏 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒇 The 🐠 was sooooo succulent, absorbing all the complexity of the mustard seeds, tamarind, & Kashmiri chilli 🌶️ paste. When cooked with the banana leaf, its aroma & earthiness infuses into the dish, imparting a subtly sweet finish❣️ 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊 𝑷𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒖 Aaaaaa I LOVEEDD THIS🥹 Fermented for 24 hours, the naan was pillowy soft, charred ard the edges, & unforgettable when slathered w the cultured sesame & chilli butter 🧈 If you ever have the chance to experience a collaboration like this, don't hesitate, you wouldn’t wanna miss future collaborations like this‼️ Featuring 📸: ~ Basil Chicken ~ Basmati Palau ~ Fremantle Octopus ~ Prawn Chilli Colada ~ Pork Vindaloo Slider ~ Black Rice Payasam ~ Mauritian Beef Samosas ~ Aged Basmati Pulao Rice ~ Coastal Fish In Banana Leaf #saumaperth #fusion #indiancuisine #mauritius

🌧️ My friend and I were literally running through the rain, looking for somewhere to eat and warm up. That’s when we spotted this cozy Indian restaurant—and what a lucky find! As soon as we opened the door, the delicious aroma wrapped around us and we knew we had to stay. We shared a barramundi curry, sauma dal, basmati rice, and roti. Everything was perfectly presented, served warm, and full of comforting, home-style flavours—it had that real “nona” taste. It was more than enough for both of us and absolutely delicious. The restaurant was beautifully thought out—cozy, welcoming, and a perfect escape from the weather. The customer service was also excellent: kind, attentive, and genuine. What started as a dash through the rain turned into a memorable meal. We’re so glad we found it—highly recommended!

The service was outstanding by the young Spanish female waitress. All other staff were so lovely. The food I would probably describe as modern Indian. It was so full of flavour. We ordered a set menu due to the size of our group. Every dish was brilliant. The only thing I would have liked in the set menu, was a vegetable dish. But really worth trying this restaurant out.

Pani Puri is a must try and the perfect way to start a meal. The rest of the food was tasty too and had quite a bit of flavour. Good selection of drinks with some interesting cocktail options. Service was good and a nice ambience too.

Best meal in Perth. Bright flavours, delicious cocktails, super speedy and friendly service and modern cool but yet relaxed vibe. Well done, team Sauma!

Google
We are regulars here, and the food has always been delicious. Tonight (29 Dec) I want to say thanks for the outstanding service. The bar staff and wait staff were out of this world, genuinely hospitable, and managed to elevate our whole experience even more than usual! Onion bhaji, chicken tikka, goat curry and banana leaf fish were all superb too.

Yelp
My review will echo one i read earlier... The food is really good, and if you wanna go easy on the wallet their entrees are shareable and enough for 2 modestly hungry guests. The place is non pretentious with a good vibe (which why i entered!). Two things though: the waiter (non australian) didn't speak English sufficiently well to answer the questions I had on the menu. The table was moving. And my red wine (from around here) was served cold!!!! Sacrilege.... On the wine: sub par, over priced and portion too small! Yes... i m French, and from Bordeaux (and, if that wasn t enough, with past family members in the wine industry...)

Yelp
Wow. No idea how this place has only 3.5 stars! The service here is so impressive. We have been here for 40minutes and already finished 2 cocktails each & 5 starters. We're taking our time but they're onto it. Every plate is cleared the second it is done. We delayed ordering mains so things didn't come out too quickly! The sassy lassi Is pure brilliance as a cocktail! And it's a much more delicious/fresh/ interesting cocktail menu than most venues though they are much too sweet and not strong enough to my taste (which is disappointingly true of everywhere in Australia due to RSA). Now... the price point is painful, but as it is standard in Australia, enjoy the food and get on with it. Herbs are fresh, prominent, & delicious. So far the pani puri shots, Sadsy Lassi, and the lamb cutlets are the winning dishes. The chai pannacotta for dessert though... perfection. I'd be back just for that.

Yelp
This food is very tasty, flavorful, and the customer service is amazing. I tried pretty much everything on the menu, my favorite was the Chicken Tikka and the Banana Leaf Fish, and the Pani Puri shots. Must go before drinking.

Yelp
I struggled with rating this place as the food quality was excellent but management/ service was a struggle. Ambiance is lively and casual. Shared and private tables. Eclectic takes on traditional Indian dishes. We enjoyed every dish: tender and spicy tandoori chicken, fresh garlic naan, delicious eggplant burrata, crisp poppadom and flavorful lamb ribs. The chefs can cook! But they cannot deliver in a manner that makes any sense. Our chicken dish came first and by itself for 10-15 minutes so we ate it alone. Finally eggplant arrived with rice. I asked for the poppadum. They completely forgot about the lamb until we asked for it. By then everything else was nearly eaten. I understand that all food won't come out at once but it makes no sense to get our starter midway through the meal or a main by itself. This is simple restaurant management. If they can improve their timing they will earn five stars because their dishes are amazing.

Yelp
A passable Indian restaurant in a fabulous location, with a very nice fit out; it's a great meet up location for events here and the bar is fairly decent. However on both occasions I have visited there has been good mixup so much so that on the first occasion we got nan bread 20min after three curries - which was kinda if useless at that point; I have he the wrong dish delivered too, and when I questioned this the waiter completely disregarded me... So not high on my must revisit list for a nice night out, but for casual stop in it is fine.

Yelp
I've walked past this place before and was intrigued by the huge space and exotic fixtures. Last night I finally had a chance to dine here. As others have mentioned, the décor is gorgeous - unique claypot style printed lamps and old wooden window shutters hang from the ceilings and an old rickshaw with oysters on display rests near the bar. Water is served is old spirits bottles and intricate wooden shelves line the back wall. We came in with no reservations at around 6pm and by 7pm the place was absolutely packed on a Wednesday. After eating here I know why! The cocktail menu is so unique and creative - I ordered the Bad Mash Chai, which was so good I could have had about 5 more (don't worry, I practiced restraint). My partner ordered the tamarind margarita which was a nice take on the original, with the brim lined with super spicy cayenne pepper salt. The menu is a little overwhelming with good options so we just decided to pick the first few that struck us - the bang bang chicken, wagyu beef samosas, and the goat curry with a side of garlic naan. All of them were amazing! The bang bang chicken was a lightly barbequed dry spice chicken that was so moist and tender inside and served with a gorgeous chunky mint chutney. The wagyu beef in the samosas was ground very fine and laden with fragrant cardamom pods, and packed into a thick and flaky samosa pastry. The samosas were sitting atop a smear of beetroot puree, a nice Aussie take on a classic Indian dish. The goat curry was pull-apart tender and the curry was so flavourful. The chunks of beetroot in the curry actually worked nicely with the richness of the goat. The garlic naan was super thick and fluffy. We spotted the owner humbly cleaning tables and asking people if they enjoyed their dishes - we chatted with him and turns out he's the owner of the more traditional Maya Indian Restaurant in Fremantle. It's nice to see him branching out to try something more trendy, and he's modernised and Australianised (yep, that's a word I just made up) Indian food in such a unique way that still does Indian food justice.

Yelp
We discovered Sauma a few weeks ago and it wasn't the name that caught my eyes but instead it was the interior layout and settings. You could say I have a soft spot for furniture in distress. My eye will always go towards anything that looks...rustic, vintage or just about any old piece with years of character, it kind of reminded me of my childhood and the old character home I grew up in Vietnam. Sauma, the new Indian in town having just opened about 7 weeks ago. What also caught my eyes was their signage for "Indian Street Food" which I haven't come across one before. I must admit that I'm not particularly fond of Indian food, apart from a couple of dishes at Chik & Kent (perhaps it's because they're a fusion Indian restaurant or whatever it is), but nevertheless I decided to give this Indian's street food restaurant a go to see what it's like... One of the waitresses mentioned that the décors were shipped here from India after seeing my curious gaze darting back and forth at the furniture. Both hubby and I weren't too hungry (having just stuffed our faces with Nando's Peri Peri Chips!); we decided to order 2 platters to share instead. There were only 9 items on the menu for the "Street Food with Beer", the rest were small platters, curries and side dishes. We ordered the Goan Sausage from the "Street Food" section and the Fremantle Octopus Salad from the "Smaller" section to share. The Goan Sausage came out beautifully presented with oil glistened on the surface. The meat portion looks small and the sausages were dry - my instant dislike. Hubby commented that he wish the dish was more saucier so he can dip the naan bread in. The Fremantle Octopus Salad came out about the same time and was also beautifully presented. The Fremantle Octopus Salad $14 with puffed rice, chilli, mung sprouts, coriander, tamarind and roasted peanuts - more a puffed rice salad than octopus salad; we enjoyed the little pieces of octopus here and there but had expected more octopus in a 'octopus salad' and the roasted peanuts were slightly uncooked and was a bit unpleasant to eat. Overall the service was pleasant. I might come back one day to see if they have made any changes but we'll see.

Yelp
There are few corners as fantastic as Sauma's; it's a choice location to say the least. Once you notice it, it's rather hard not to waltz straight on in because a lot of care has been taken with the interior. It looks very cool. I really like the layout because it caters to all kinds of eaters and drinkers, from those who might be tempted to nibble on something over drinks at the bar to diners who want a proper seat and table so that they can concentrate on the cuisine. Either way, it's hard not to be distracted by the first class people watching to be had out the windows. I've eaten here a couple of times now and think the food is scrumptious. Some of the tapas style dishes are indeed small, but the presentation is beautiful. I'm also impressed by the drinks list. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
A friend and I nipped in here last night for a quick bite before a Fringe event. We'd already decided to forego the curries and order appetisers and snack food, and we were very glad we did. I think I've said before that Sauma's onion bhajis are outstanding - the best I've had anywhere. They were similarly delicious last night. We also ordered the naan bread with cheese - soft as pillows, with plenty of cheese filling, and a good carb filler. Bombay bondas - yowser! Made with potatoes, curry leaves, lentils and mustard seeds. Loved, loved, the flavour of these little beauties. I just wish they would serve a side of tamarind or mint chutney with the bondas and bhajis. There was a tasty coconut chutney on top, but we though a dipping sauce would suit it even better. Last but not least - the chicken tikka. We'd both had the bang bang chicken before and loved it, so decided to try a different option. The chicken tikka was tender and juicy and we liked the subtle but tasty flavours of this dish, complemented by the korma sauce and slivers of green apple. My pale ale lager was just the bees knees with these snacks. The dishes were all served within 15 minutes, and we had ample time to relax and enjoy ourselves before the show. I love the snack food at Sauma, and would choose this option over the curries any day. It's not often that you find a range of quality appetisers in one spot. With one drink each and 4 tasty little dishes to share, it was a total of $60 for the two of us. Very reasonable we thought.

Yelp
I've found my favourite Indian in Perth! I stopped into Sauma after work to grab some dinner with a friend. We were in Northbridge and weren't sure where to go so just stopped by on the off chance that it could be some good eats. Man was I impressed! The waitress that served us was so attentive and gave really good advice and suggestions on what to pick. I asked what was GF on offer, and she happily went to the kitchen to ask. She came back and let me know the things that were GF, those that may contain traces and those that contained gluten. I went mad on the poppadoms. GF and DELICIOUS! The field mushrooms were also a personal fave of mine. Go with friends and make sure you order to share so you can try as much as possible!

Yelp
Sauma is the best Indian restaurant in Northbridge and one of the top two or three anywhere across the City - you can always be assured of getting a high quality feed in well turned out surrounds. To this end we ended up there last week - we had been to an early movie up the road and dropped in for dinner on our way back to the station. We kicked off our meal with a couple of dishes from their Street Food selection, and then went on to a couple off the small share plates on offer. Bindas bonda - golf ball sized potato cakes flavoured with curry leaf and spices were presented in a crisply fried chick pea shell and drizzled with tangy chutney infused with peanuts, coconut and garlic - comfort food extraordinaire. A juicy tomato had been scooped out and filled with a mix of fetta, spinach, chilli and quickly roasted in the tandoor and plonked on a bed of hung yoghurt - nice flavour combo, light and easy. A plate of tender and moist squid, flavoured with chilli and char grilled was next - served with crunchy fresh slaw, sliced red chilli, fresh coriander and sultanas that had been plumped up with kewra water - imparting a sweet aromatic note. Roasted cashew sauce finished it off. A lovely dish. Finally, chicken tikka - plump, juicy chicken flavoured with mint and coriander which gave both a heady aroma as well as glossy greenish hue, roasted in the tandoor and served with chilli, lemon and ginger sauce - delicious. Our garlic naan was pretty good, too - doughy and charred - good garlic flavour and just the thing for mopping up the sauces and accompaniments. The rice was, as you would expect, well cooked. Sauma continues to impress - serving very good food, with a on point selection of wines, beers and spirits - great waiters, always friendly and welcoming, excellent location in the heart of Northbridge - what's not to like?

Yelp
Sauma sits rather quietly at the apex of the Perth Cultural Centre and James Street in Northbridge but there is nothing quiet about the flavours the chefs in the kitchen produce. Helmed by seasoned restaurateur Gurpreet Bagga and his team - all I can say is wow wow wow- fantastic flavours from start to finish! My favourites were the lamb ribs, fish in banana leaf, pain puri shooters, bindas boonda ( I think that's what's it's called) and a kicker of a dessert of Mango Kulfi with Falooda and Rose Jelly- actually I loved everything! Can't help it I will be back for more.

Yelp
I ordered a lovely vegetarian curry and tandoor mushrooms with cashew gravy to eat before a show at the Blue Room. While waiting for my order, I discovered they give customers their water in old Kraken bottles which kept my mother and I entertained as I took photos of her skolling from the bottle to send to my gullible sister. The mushrooms were tender and juicy and the gravy was beautiful! I enjoyed my curry but needed a drink of coconut milk with it because I'm not used to much spice. It took so long to serve the curry I had to abandon my meal or be late for Hypatia.

Yelp
Hits it on all levels. Fantastic cocktail program with friendly, awesome bartenders. Spot-on, delicious food / the banana leaf served fish with basmati rice was divine.

Yelp
I ordered bara curry and it was a 20/10 hot!!!! About a dozen chilies I could see just in tip, my partner and I life spicy food but this gave us major heatburn!!!! When I told them they just laughed at me and said its not that hot. Will never be back with that kind of service. Partner ordered lamb curry and couldn't taste the lamb due to the overwhelming spice of the curry.

Yelp
This is great place! Lovely setting and not expensive food. Great service! And not too spicy-has just the right mix of flavours that leave you wanting a bit more. The only let down are the chairs! Sort of awkward as they make you feel like you are in a baby high chair. Onion Bhajis are wonderful. There was also a blackbeans dish I had before on their menu which was good. And they have express lunches for office workers too!
google avatar

Yelp
This joint is always full which always mean it's a good thing. Went with a couple of friends and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Great selection of drinks and cocktails that came with a twist. Food were slightly on the expensive sight but wasn't too bad at all. The bhajis and vadais which we had for starters were down right satisfying. It really set the scene and made you feel like you are in India. Fish curry could be better if they had more gravy on wasn't enough to share around the scrumptious spicy note. We had the dessert platter which served a bit of everything which was a great idea as we could not decide what to have. The board comes with small portions of most of the desserts which was enough for us all to share. Service was on point with staff readily available even for a busy restaurant. They know the menu well and was very attentive. We will def be back to try rest of the menu :)

Yelp
Not just an average Indian restaurant, food was good but... Shauma offer something different for foodie. Indian Fusion Street food. In general the taste of the food here is not just like other traditional Indian restaurant. My partner and I really enjoyed the food and ambience here; however some part of the service drop the overall experience to 3 out of 5. The wait staff that greeted us was friendly and quick in taking the order. How it took a good 50 mins for our food to be served, and 20 mins waiting to pay. The staff that took our order was apologetic for the waiting and gave us 1 glass of complementary wine. This is good. We ordered 6 dishes between 2 of us. But because it took so long for the food to be served, my gastric was high and I quickly get full. My partner also already had 2 glass of wine while waiting. But because we are full and like the food so would like to bring home for take away. Other staff /manager with glasses told us that they cannot pack the food for us, even use the "dog bag" term. I really disappointed, we waited for long and off course will pay paid for what we ordered, yet cannot take what is our right. If you not allowed take away, maybe the kitchen should not take too long. We also ordered pappadum that never arrived, but appeared on the bill. Luckily we checked. So I would recommend people to eat here if they would like to have different Indian food experience, BUT Do Not go there if you are in hurry or hungry. Ordered wisely, because you cannot take home what left! Always check your bill before pay. Enjoy! :)

Yelp
Indian food is my friend and Sauma is ready to be yours. The starters and the naan are winners here, so make sure you have room to order to things to share and to eat a lot (lots and lots) of bread. Their wine list is pretty good, the last time I went we shared a bottle of bubbles and it suited our meal perfectly. and the service is alright. The food makes up for any small shortcomings it may have, which is shown by how busy it is all of the time. The lamb brain curry does deserve a mention, it was beautiful and creamy (even if I wasn't sure what I was eating in the first place). Focus on the starters and breads. The curries were good, but the starters were out of this world, and the breads... oh my! It's been a long time since I've been to an Indian restaurant and been this blown away. It's a venue that suits a quick bite, date night or a long table shared evening meal. I could easily site and graze and drink for hours. Book if you're planning to go, but if it's a spur of the moment thing and you have to wait for a table, it's worth the wait.

Yelp
This place has a really nice vibe & the staff were super friendly and helpful even though we took a while to order (50% of our group was over 80 years old) & it was really nice to actually have some decent vegan options in a restaurant that doesn't specialise in that, I had the winter vegetable curry with rice and it was so good!

Yelp
Sauma menu designed to tickle your tastebuds and we got to try almost everything thanks to our large group - the best way to have Indian! Highlights of the street food/smaller dishes section of the menu were the oysters which were chai-smoked with shallot dressing, the onion bhaji, and those lamb ribs twice cooked with sweet tamarind, chilli, mint and coriander which just melted in your mouth. Other dishes of note included the raita, tandoori chicken and the beef samosa with earthy beetroot ketchup. The only thing that didn't quite hit the mark for me was the octopus salad - with a little too much puffed rice it tasted more cereal than seafood. For the main dishes, we tried butter chicken - because that is what everyone does when the eat Indian in a western country right? This was a favourite for some, I enjoyed it but didn't think it was as good as Aunty G's chicken curry with cardamon, chilli paste, caramelised onion and tomato. The duck curry with coriander seeds, dry chilli and fennel, spicy Rajasthani sauce and potato was a hit with most, rich tender duck falling of the bone into an even richer sauce. I didn't try the shark bay prawn curry with fenugreek seeds eggplant, tamarind, dry chilli and spicy cumin but it seemed to go down a treat, while the general consensus on the cone bay barra fish curry with shallots, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, beans and coconut milk was that the fish was a little bit overpowering. My favourite by far was the mountain style goat curry cooked on bone (so tender!) with ginger, turmeric, chilli tomato and beetroot. The naan bread was pretty out of this world as well. Sauma was some of the best Indian I have had since departing the sub-continent a year and half ago. Admittedly not as cheap as you might get down the road at old Shanghai you certainly get what you pay for - the high quality ingredients are prepared with care and the flavour combinations certainly wont leave you wanting. Worth a visit any day of the week, and make sure to check out the cocktail list!

Yelp
Walking into Sauma, I have to admit - it was not what I was expecting. This place looks and feels anything but like an Indian restaurant. Even my dinner companions asked me "Are you sure this is the right place?" The menu was very much a Western interpretation of Eastern cuisine. There's the something for everyone and my person favourite was the Mountain Goat Curry. Personally, I'd like a bit of heat / spice in my curries and I suspect that you'd have to ask specifically when you're ordering if you want things spicy or not so will do that next time. My only gripe about the place was that the rice seemed to be extremely small servings. When I ordered rice for three people...what was brought to our table could have been eaten by one person. Easily. In terms of pricing, I'd say it's towards the upper end of moderate. For 3 people (including drinks) it cost about $35 per person. It's a little more than I'd usually pay for a meal but at the same time, I haven't received that level of attentive and friendly service in a fair while either so when you look at it in terms of the quality of the food and the quality of the service, I think it was a reasonable price to pay. Biggest regret: Ordering 1 serve of the lamb ribs. I also regret not taking a photo of them (or any of the food for that matter). Guess I'll just have to go back (and I will). I got the ribs after reading some of the other reviews and yes, get the ribs. Shut up. Don't ask questions. Just get. the damn. ribs. There's 3 per serve. Get at least 2 serves. You're welcome.

Yelp
Great decor and location, ideal for people watching. The food was good and servings generous, slightly dearer than my favourite Indian restaurant Dhaba in Innaloo. What made the expense enjoyable was the great service form our waitress (Dutch/German? backpacker), very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Saturday date night, Northbridge a heaving mass of Night Noodle markets. Had seen and booked Sauma sometime ago. Lucky . The place was full. Big noisy restaurant in James St (car William) Northbridge full to the gills, Sat night crazies out and about, gonna be bad, right? Wrong . This place is terrific. Heaps of friendly staff, reasonable drink prices, police sirens outside, but relatively tranquil inside. Bliss. We started with the tapas style entrees (samosas and tandoori) moved on to an Indian 'surf and turf' eggplant and bread. All food fresh delicious and served with a smile. A little on the spicy side, but nothing a cold Tiger can't cure. Will be back. Often. 8/8/15 The West's Broadfield visits and reviews. Good to see he agreed.

Yelp
The two most memorable things about Sauma are the interior design and the size of the rice portions. The interior is airy with distressed wood, trendy light fixtures and copper bathroom sinks I want to steal. The rice portions are the smallest I have ever experienced. A serving for two equals to the amount of rice in about 4 slices of sushi, which doesn't cut it when you have a saucy curry. Speaking of curry, Sauma's are kind of average. They taste fresh and handmade, but that's about it. The butter chicken, which I use as a yardstick for for Indian food in Perth, was a little bland. And the eggplant was far too peppery for more than a few mouthfuls. This place is quite new so maybe these negatives are just a few kinks that will be ironed out in the next few months. Until then, you won't miss much if you dine elsewhere.

Yelp
Any interesting addition to the Northbridge food scene. Make sure you try the ribs (& if there is more than 3 of you, order more! ) and the onion bhaji are definitely a hark back to their homelands. An interesting array of cocktails round out the menu, with the highlight being the Lassi.

Yelp
Huge fan of this place. Some great wines and extremely tasty food, whether you're after a few light bites or a big feast, this place delivers. Love the onion bhajis... delightful! Atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, service is attentive but not intrusive.

Yelp
Dined here for dinner for a friends birthday with a group of eight. Decided on the $45 banquet as you get to try food you might not ordinarily order - glad we did as all the food was delicious! Especially the goat curry, butter chicken and crispy onions. The meals came out in quick succession and we all left feeling very full but satisfied. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
A trendy Indian restaurant! We went as a group of 12 and the service was extremely sub-par. The food highlights of the night were butter chicken and garlic naan, whereas the bang bang chicken was only one tiny piece and chai cocktail was actually terrible. We ate a ton and it was overall OK, but I wouldn't go back myself (mostly because of the service and high prices). At one point the wait staff must have noticed how poorly attentive they were and decided to bring out complementary dessert, which was a welcome gesture.

Yelp
We discovered Sauma about 3 months ago and I cant rave enough about this place! Finally an Indian restaurant in Perth with amazingly authentic food - have been here a couple of times and will definitely be going back again. Their onion bhajis are outstanding as are the other smaller dishes we've had before. The goat curry , bang bang chicken and Bombay Bondas. The mains/curries are decent size and tend to get a couple of smaller dishes to share with naan and a curry and walk out feeling soo full. The great menu is complimented by an impressive range of beverages to chose from. The decor is cool , great atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating - perfect for people watching. The staff really helpful and welcoming. Definitely worth stopping in!

Yelp
What else do you need on a cold, blistery, autumn night but a delicious curry and toasty naan bread. I was very excited to try Sauma after hearing so many nice things from so many lovely yelpers. There were quite a few positives and negatives here: Negatives (better to end on a high note): 1) We decided to book a table in case everybody else in Perth had the same idea as us. I was a bit disappointed when we arrived that they placed the four of us in the middle of the long table, in between two tables when the rest of the chairs were left free for walk-ins. Clearly there is no benefit from booking a table. 2) The samosas (although amazing, more about that in the pros) were $6 ea...little excessive if you ask me. 3) The fish curry was just a little bit watery and average, not quite the warm gravy cuddle I was after. 4) The rice portions didn't equate to the amount of us intending on eating it. Its very rare these days in Indian restaurants that you run out of rice. 5) The butter chicken was quite bland which was unfortunate because it is usually the ultimate go-to option for comfort food. 6) The wine options are quite limited, if you like beer at all, just drink beer instead. Postitives 1) Apparently the beef samosas were amazing and the beetroot puree that they came on was delicious. 2) The parathas were very tasty. 3) The malai kofta was the biggest hit of the night and was the final destination for the naan bread. 4) The naan bread was soft and crispy in all the right places. 5) The decor is quite nice and the noise levels don't get too loud. All in all, it was a good spot to go but a little disappointing from a curry point of view.

Yelp
Cute decor, and not very busy on a Sunday afternoon, so it makes for a relaxing late lunch. Their all day menu, however, is quite disappointing, with little to choose from.
