"When we got off the flight to Kauai, we were hungry, so we grabbed shrimp at Savage Shrimp. It’s located in the Shops at Kukui’ula, which is a strip mall."

Google
I'm sorry but this was a fail for me. Even in Hawaii I don't see how these were $17 dollar plates. They had none of the vegetables for the pineapple curry I received and I still had to pay full price. You received 1 scoop of rice, a scoop of coleslaw salad which was the best thing on my plate, 6 shrimp and a big handful of pineapple chunks which seem to be out a can. It seems the shrimps are already all pre cooked and so are the sauces and they toss it right before they give it to you. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

Google
We came here three years ago and again just a few days ago.. it was pretty disappointing.. the first time we came, we were so impressed with the shrimp and fries! the shrimp tasted and looked fresh with a beautiful flaky batter! But this time when we came back, the shrimp looked like it came from a grocery store frozen bag that was already pre cooked and they charge wayyyyy too much. Also, the person that takes your order isn’t very friendly…

There were only a few restaurants open at 11 am. Unfortunately for us, one of them was Savage Shrimp. The food was average at best. We got the Aloha Shrimp plate and an order of Kalua Pork Quesadillas. The Aloha Shrimp was very bland. The sauce that the shrimp was smothered in was extremely watery with no flavor at all. The pork quesadillas were just ok. I would not recommend this spot.

Google
Had the fish tacos, they were good but not much fish on it, just loaded with cabbage. Garlic Shrimp was just ok, kind of bland, and the garlic fries tasted just like fries with a jar of chopped garlic poured over it. Location was super convenient.

Hi I Am

Google
Stopped by on a Saturday just before 5pm for take out. They charge an extra $0.50 per item for to go. There was no wait to order. I ordered a garlic shrimp plate - $16.95 and Bahia tacos - $13.95. Shrimps were of standard size. It tastes alright for what it is.

Google
It’s tasty, feels like there are vaguely healthy options, and the price is about as reasonable for the area as it gets. Food is ready quickly and you can sit in their small outdoor area or go to a nice nearby park with an ocean view. The spicy shrimp with pineapple was nice. The slaw was just a pile of cabbage with a glop of some sauce but the sauce was good and you can mix it together yourself. The taco plates are very loaded, so it’s hard to eat the tacos as tacos, and we just used forks to eat the shrimp and tomatoes and such. The food wasn’t too greasy. The drink selection is somewhat limited, cans of soda and Hawaiian juices.

Looks nice from outside. Not the friendliest staff. Food did not have any taste. I ordered two Garlic Shrimp plate, one for my son that loves shrimp but he did not eat any after the first bite.

Google
Disappointing! This is a place where my traveling companion saw such great reviews on TikTok. Which is why I lend my reviews and my research from Google reviews. First night we went we arrived @ 7:50 & they were already closed even tho the sign says they close @ 8. I can sorta understand being in the restaurant business for over 30 years but also by that same token, we’re in it for the guest or you’re in the wrong business. So we came back another night. I had the garlic shrimp tacos, will say not bad. They were nice size fresh ingredients and nice shrimp but hardly any garlic flavor. My companion had the coconut shrimp and will have to say, sad & disappointing. It was that basic variety store bought frozen coconut shrimp found in every low end grocery store store & my companion concurred for she has been in restaurant industry longer than I have. They also charge you .50 cents on every transaction for carry out fee. Well sorry that should already be factored into your pricing & you’re not offered any eat-in choice option. So definitely not worth coming back to.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch in the midst of snorkeling and swimming. A shared fish and chips was plenty for our party of two. Seating is outside but there was plenty for the diners that were there. Food was hot, fresh and tasty. Will come again.

Yelp
Ambience: located in an esthetically pleasing shopping center. Not much seating. No indoor seating, and only about four outdoor tables with a few additional benches. Two stars. Service: Service was pleasant and efficient. Food was ready within about 10 mins of ordering. It was quick. Four stars. Food: Good was served hot and quick. I ordered the garlic shrimp plate. Portion of rice and coleslaw that accompanied garlic shrimp were small. Not much garlic on the shrimp. I would give it about a 2.5 star rating. Overall it averages out to a 3.17 rating. So round down to a 3 star rating. It was worth it to try but I wouldn't eat here again.

Yelp
I was excited to see a spot that had garlic butter shrimp near our hotel. I was a little skeptical when I read the bad reviews but passed by one afternoon and saw the food looked good. So, we came here one night for dinner and we were do disappointed! We all got some form of non fried shrimp and all the shrimp was clearly from frozen. They were small and mushy. The flavor also didn't permeate the shrimp so you had a bland shrimp swimming in butter. I gave 2 stars because the staff was super friendly.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
We ordered online for pick up which was convenient. However, shrimp was frozen from the market. Garlic was sour and rice was mushy. Stay away!!

Yelp
They are located in the nearby mall nearest to our hotel. I loved their garlic shrimp dishes. We ordered everything above and below the moon on their menu. We got their garlic shrimp dish, curry shrimp, but our favortite was our garlic shrimp tacos! That is a top notch eats.

Yelp
We love this place. A good selection of options. The shrimp was fresh and prepared perfectly. The side cole slaw was super tasty. We're frequently here. Lapperts for ice cream is just around the corner. Who could ask for better placement. Cute tables for dining outside.

Yelp
Garlic Shrimp was indeed lacking in flavor. If you are up for a quick bite would recommend it. If you are looking to be blown away wouldn't recommend it. Small cute little hole in the wall with limited outdoor seating.

Yelp
Savage Shrimp is located at the Kukulu Village in the Poipu beach area. I had to try the garlic shrimp with the scoop of garlic rice and slaw. I opted to pay an extra 2 bucks for the shells to be peeled. My meal was pretty good with the shrimp being good sized (10) and the flavor of the garlic was fresh. My kids got the fried options and my oldest thought the calamari was good but the little one didn't care for the chicken fingers but who gets chicken fingers at a shrimp place. I suppose someone with a boring palate of an 11 year old. There is limited outdoor seating here and the line moved at a good pace. Service at the counter was friendly. One thing to note is that they will charge you for .50 cents per item for a to go charge. Would I try this place again when we're on the island, most likely not since there are so many other food options but I'm glad we did check it out as it was a decent meal.
google avatar

Mona L.

Yelp
The coconut shrimp is like uncooked dough so gross couldn't eat it. The garlic shrimp was ok, I've had so much better for this price on the island. The Bahia shrimp plate was the best but it's not good enough to come here if the other food can't step it up. It won't take much but it feels like they don't really care to be better which makes it worse. It's too much to pay for this quality of food, you're better off at a food truck. I'd only eat here if it was convenient.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I was a tad hesitant to go, but I'm glad I went. The restaurant itself is order at the door and then eat at tables outside. Super simple concept. Nothing fancy. I ended up trying the garlic shrimp unpeeled (they peel it for you for $2), which was really yummy and hit the spot. The garlic flavor was just enough and the plate itself was the right portion. So glad I tried.

Yelp
Hi! I'll keep this short so you don't have to look through a bunch of reviews. I was craving plate lunch but skeptical of reviews; I ended up getting the garlic shrimp plate and it was 1000/10. Delicious garlic shrimp, peel them first. Perfectly cooked rice, and a little refreshing coleslaw hawaiin style. I recommend 100%. Here's a picture of my food. The lady serving me was super nice.
google avatar

Yelp
this place is so good. The food is great. I went back twice and I also got the cookie scampi , that was amazing . the people are so amazing and sweet the outdoor seating is also great! 10/10 place here
google avatar

Thomas V.

Yelp
We got the Bahia plate and were pretty disappointed. While the shrimp and greens were fresh, the flavor was kinda...bland. The sauce doesn't even stay on the shrimp and was more like a small layer of soup. It definitely needs more bold seasoning. The container is also not very insulated so be careful; I almost dropped my meal because it was so hot at first.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
It's a nice change of pace from burgers and fries. The garlic shrimp was tasty. It's pretty much an outdoor place. The only problem was the number of chickens running around under the table but it's Kauai so it's to be expected. It's fine for what it is.
google avatar

Pauline M.

Yelp
This is your average run of the mill shrimps. It did the trick when you're craving for shrimps on the island.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time and we enjoyed our meals. The garlic Parmesan fries are very good. Big chunks of roasted garlic and melted Parmesan cheese. Yumm. Definitely try them out

L J.

Yelp
An extra star for staff being kind but the food was really pretty gross... even the rice was over cooked and mushy. It was so much better when we visited last year...very disappointed with quality of shrimp plates.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
We had this our first night in Poipu and it continues to be the best meal we've had. We got the curry shrimp, garlic shrimp and fish and chips. They were all great. The service was fast and the girl at the counter was nice. Definitely worth checking out at least once if you're in the area.
google avatar

Megha T.

Yelp
Ordered two kinds of shrimp plates with garlic parmesan fries and this place didn't disappoint! Very good good items. We went to the eatery to place a to go order. It's busy so you had to place the order and wait about 20ish min before getting your food. They don't have much seating (all outside) so many people waited outside on some benches.

Yelp
I was hesitant to try this given some of the questionable reviews but I ended up eating here twice during my vacation and loved it. Convenient location to the resort I was staying at, at a nice little mall with multiple other restaurant and shops. The first time I got the spicy shrimp with pineapple and chilis and it really was more like shrimp and pineapple chunks doused in hot sauce, I was kinda expecting it to me more like the garlic shrimp but with chilis added. The original garlic shrimp is definitely the way to go, tastes delicious. The garlic fries were also quite good and is a lot of fries with their chopped seasoned/fried garlic on top, same stuff they put on their shrimp. It costs $2 more to get your shrimp peeled and I do not recommend doing that because based on pictures it seems like the shrimp with the shell are bigger, even if it's a little messy to have to shell them yourself. The tropical coleslaw was nice too, I don't normally like coleslaw but this is more like chopped cabbage salad with a sweet dressing poured on top. The service is fine and nothing special, you order and then they call your name ten minutes later so you can pick up your order. What I don't appreciate is the second time they charged me 50 cents extra for takeout, but it's always in takeout containers and I ate it at a table there. That seems petty and quite frankly I almost took of a star for that but I just didn't add a tip since she charged me for a takeout container. They also don't have cups of water, you have to buy a bottle of water from them if you want a drink with your meal. It is nice they are open for both lunch and dinner, as many shrimp places like this are only open for lunch. Overall I really enjoyed the garlic shrimp and garlic fries, and I would go back when staying in the area provided they do not increase their prices or reduce the quantity of food.

Yelp
Located in the Shops at Kukui'ula. Between Uncle's Shave Ice and Tea and Bubba's Burgers. Small menu of plates, tacos, and fried foods. We ordered Garlic Shrimp plate and Fire Rock Tacos. Garlic Shrimp plate: Reminds me of the Asian garlic shrimp dish that I make and it hits home. Very garlicky and oily where the shrimps soak up the flavor. Rice and slaw compliments the dish nicely. Fire Rock tacos: Two corn tortillas stuffed with shrimp, salsa, cream sauce (very good), shredded cabbage. This was a flavorful spicy shrimp. Its pretty quiet on your palate in the beginning and creeps on you towards the end and the more bites you take. Super good. Highly recommend if you like spicy foods. Service was fast and easy.

Yelp
I went to Savage Shrimp on two separate occasions while in town for the week, it was one of the few spots open the majority of the time in the shopping center. Feedback is mixed depending on the dish you get. The coconut shrimp were delicious! Perfectly battered and crunchy, and I think you can get these a la carte. We also got the garlic shrimp which were finger licking good! On the second trip I got the shrimp tacos which were good but seemed small to be much of a meal and recommend getting other food on the side if you're hungry. I'd recommend sticking to the shrimp plates.

Yelp
What was previously a shrimp truck, Savage Shrimp, is now located in the Kukulu' Ula Village Shopping Center in Koloa...a few jumps away from Popui Beach. No frills , served hot with generous portions. We had the garlic shrimp (shrimp peeled) plate that was served with sticky rice and coleslaw. Ample parking and outdoor seating with a extremely friendly roosters and chickens walking around.

Yelp
We've seen Savage Shrimp every time we visited The Shops at Kukui'ula over the last few years but this was our first time trying it. We were on the island during Lent and it was a Friday (no meat) so for us, it was time. Located just across the parking lot from Long's Drugs near Lappert's Ice Cream.... Covid protocols were still in place (February 2022) so there was no dine-in. It was strictly take-out but there were a handful of tables just outside the restaurant where people were eating their orders. I went with the fried shrimp & fish plate ($15.50)... It comes with fries, 2 kinds of dipping sauce (tartar & sweet n sour) for the 2 pieces of fried white fish & 5 coconut breaded shrimp. It was good. Even though I could have used another piece of fish, it was a filling portion altogether. The fish was nice & flaky. The shrimp were fresh, big and went great with the sweet n sour dipping sauce. My lady had been wanting a plate of garlic shrimp ($15.50) and finally had it. She was one happy girl. It comes with about 6-7 shell-on fresh garlic seasoned shrimp, 2 scoops of rice and a side salad. It's exactly what she's been wanting from our previous trips and it took our 5th time to the island for her to finally have a garlic shrimp plate. For her it was worth the wait. Service was friendly but the wait was a little long. It was fine, as we werent in a hurry but when the food was finally ready, we were starved... We would eat at Savage Shrimp again for sure.

Yelp
Located at The Shops at Kukui'ula, we were looking for some seafood. I got the tacos but they weren't very good and so messy. One of the shrimp also still had its skin on it. Only reason why it's a 3 is the garlic shrimp was pretty good. My mom gave me a piece and I wish I had ordered that instead. They charge extra to have them peel it for you
google avatar

Audrey D.

Yelp
Incredible garlic shrimp tacos! Super fast service and delicious food with fair prices. They also have very good pork tacos that my husband enjoyed.
google avatar

Gabriel H.

Yelp
Came here 10 years ago during my honeymoon and the food looked way different and was actually delicious. If you want good Garlic Shrimp, go anywhere else. This place has taken a nose dive in quality. It lacked seasoning, they skimped on the sauce. The shrimp is clearly the prepeeled frozen garbage. It's the worst thing I ate in Kauai in all my trips here. Skip this place

Bruce M.

Yelp
I rarely leave reviews unless the place of business is exceptional or very poor. In this case it's the latter. This place claims to be open till 8 p.m. We arrived at 7: 25 and were able to place our order, but a few people arrived at 7:30 and were informed that they were closed. We ordered calamari for almost $16. For that we received 9 rings and 2 tentacles with some fries, and the calamari was overcooked. Try at your own risk
google avatar

Aly B.

Yelp
Yes to all! The butter for days. Our favorite take away place while in Kauai. Lick your fingers and live your best life while enjoying the shrimp! Promise, you'll be happy.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
This food was expensive and poor tasting- the fish and chips fish was inedible. The Savage shrimp was tough and not like it used to be. Only Thing we ate were the French fries.
google avatar

Maddy S.

Yelp
pretty average product... definitely not bad but not sure if i would get it again. can't really go wrong with shrimp, rice, and garlic butter but my total was over $20 for this, a piece of bread, and small tip. lots of different ways you can get your shrimp prepared and they were very fast. service was good too and there is seating available! just not sure of any wow factor that would bring me back
google avatar

Alyanna C.

Yelp
If you're looking to try Hawaiian garlic shrimp plates... go somewhere else. Seriously. I suppose this is one of those "tourist trap" restaurants since it's in a shopping plaza near a bunch of resorts. The prices are high for a really subpar shrimp plate. I came here because of the convenience - I felt like having a garlic shrimp plate, this place was within walking distance, and 3.5 stars can vary on Yelp. Unfortunately this was one of those situations where I should have been more wary. We both got the garlic shrimp plate. For a place called "Savage Shrimp", it felt like frozen Costco shrimp that had been defrosted and cooked in a little butter/garlic. The shrimp were small and measley compared to other places I've gone too. It didn't even look like their pictures. The sauce wasn't as strong in flavor - it was really weak and just felt watery/oily. Hell I could made a better garlic shrimp dish at home with Costco frozen shrimp... I'd at least be a little more authentic and use head on shrimp. The rice was a little overcooked with some crunchy fried garlic - didn't really work for this plate. The salad was laughable - just some plain shredded coleslaw, no dressing. For $15, it really felt like a rip off. I'm all for supporting local businesses especially during these trying times... but the the food here really isn't worth my business. There are other shrimp places to explore on the island with better Yelp ratings, so I'd recommend passing on this one.
google avatar

Carl D.

Yelp
Savage Shrimp has shrimp in its name, but that was by far the most lacking part of our meal. We shared the Aloha Shrimp and Pineapple Curry. My Aloha Shrimp should've just been called Bland Shrimp in Bland Sauce. The Pineapple Curry at least had flavor and the shopping center patio was a nice setting and had good ambiance, but when in Hawaii, I expect a certain calibre of shrimp, and this just disappointed.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Fast service and reasonably priced food We ordered the garlic shrimp. I wouldn't say it was the best garlic shrimp I had but it was decent

Yelp
The only restaurant where we ate twice during our stay in Kauai. In the Kukuiula Shopping center. Open daily the entire day starting at 11am. Don't have to make reservations in advance, or wait until 5pm, as you do for eating at Dolphin Poipu, Eating House 1849, Merriman's, or Table for Poipu. Tried making reservations at Eating House 1849 two weeks in advance, and they had no openings on Open Table for dinner at 6pm Open every day, whereas the other restaurants are often closed Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, including Bubba Burgers, which is only open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, due to staffing shortages. On those days, Savage Shrimp is almost empty at dinner time, as a burger is half the cost of a shrimp dish. Everything is take out, with take out containers and plastic forks. BYOW. You want water, got to buy it in bottles. Several outdoor tables, but you'll have to flag the lone lady manning the cashier to come out and clean the tables. No problem getting a table most of the time, but if it's raining, getting a dry table will be difficult. Had to come right up to the window to order, and wait 15-20 minutes for my take out order. Tried to order by phone, but the number was disconnected -somebody didn't pay their phone bill! I had the $14.95 garlic shrimp plate, which came with white rice and cole slaw, the latter with a dap of mustard to liven it up. Garlic shrimp comes unpeeled, unlike the other shrimp dishes. You have to pay an additional $2 to have the shrimp peeled. I peel the 10 shrimp in about 90 seconds, using the plastic fork prong to retain the tail meat. Dip the shrimp in the pool of garlic grease, and it is absolutely delicious. Can't bring this onto a plane, as it is so greasy that it's flammable! Wife's $14.95 Bahia plate tasted pretty mild, with shrimp in coconut milk and a dash of orange juice. The following time she ordered the $14.95 Savage Shrimp plate, which came with bread instead of rice, and a bowl of broth to dip the shrimp in. Wife liked that dish better, as the sauce tasted almost tomato like, with Cajun like spices. Wife waits until finished to give me the second piece of hot bread, which cools down, and is now crusty. Give me the bread at the start of the meal. Now it is suitable only for the birds! Next time you rent a car, and the steering wheel smells like garlic shrimp, you know where the last driver has been eating -right here, after getting his hands smelling like garlic sauce, peeling off the shells!

Yelp
COCONUT SHRIMP FTW I love coconut shrimp so got it here and was happy with my order. Crispy and plump and nice coconut taste. It can get a bit oily tho if eating all alone towards the end. The salad is delicious that comes with the special sweet dressing. Only complaint is they won't switch the plain rice for the garlic one that comes with that garlic shrimp plate. They should offer that if they want to get a perfect 5 star review lol.

Jodi F.

Yelp
Ordered fish and chips to go. Fish was extremely dry. I couldn't even finish the fish. The picture of the fish totally misrepresents the actual fish that was given. If I ate it there, I would have taken it back.
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
Shrimp are small and may need to add more flavor to it.If youve been around hawaii shrimp trucks and restos, shrimps are usually flavorful , large and in big portions.
google avatar

Brett B.

Yelp
This is a pretty no frills place. It is walk up only with some seating close by. They only serve a few dishes: fish and chips, calamari, and shrimp. We got coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, fish and chips, and calamari. All the meat was good, but extremely hot, so not ideal on a hot Hawaiian day. The only downside is the crinkle cut fries: they weren't especially crispy, and because they were so thick they were dry, almost like they were frozen and then fried. Other than the fries it was good, and I would go back and just get the side of coconut shrimp.
google avatar

Cathy D.

Yelp
Food was good for a quick lunch out on the go or to stroll through the shops. Food was affordable, service was fast. Outside seating only with small tables. I would recommend as an inexpensive meal when time is of the essence. I had the garlic shrimp with slaw on the side, both were very tasty. There is an up charge for peeled shrimp which I feel was my only negative.
google avatar

Dara W.

Yelp
Wow, I wasn't sure since there were so many mixed reviews. We met some people where we were staying that said to try this place because it was good. So, I decided to forego the reviews I was seeing and take a chance on this place. So glad that we did. We ordered the garlic shrimp plate, the fish, shrimp, and fries combo, and a side of grilled sourdough bread. Everything was delicious. And if you like garlic then get the garlic shrimp plate. It comes with two scoops of rice that also have garlic on top of it and coleslaw. Very tasty. There were a ton of choices and I'd definitely go back and try at least 2-3 other plate options. FYI - the shrimp you have to peel unless otherwise noted or you can ask them to peel for an extra charge of $2.
google avatar

Phillip S.

Yelp
Food was okay. The Kalua pork had a weird marinade on it and I wasn't used to that taste. The garlic shrimp was decent but all items seemed a bit high on price but I guess that's island costs. There was a .50 to go charge per plate even though we ate outside which I felt was kinda a scam. I would recommend going to try other places in this village.

Rusty S.

Yelp
Disappointed. Bad food. No flavor. And pretty messy. That was a total waste of money and time.

Kendra F.

Yelp
Got the fish & chips, coconut shrimp, and Kaluah pork. The fish and chips and coconut shrimp tasted like it was a straight out of the frozen section at Costco. The kaluah pork tasted like the Jack Daniel's pulled pork from the grocery store. It was 68.00 for 3 meals. The customer service was terrible. They forgot our tartar sauce. So I went back and I asked to 3 small containers of tartar sauce with the dish and chips; and was charged and an extra $0.52 which I paid with my credit card. The food went straight to the garbage.

Yelp
Sooo good! Nice option for casual, take-out spot for seafood with outdoor seating. We've had the Garlic shrimp before, which is the favorite but this visit we wanted to try the Savage and Bahia plates. Flavorful and good sized servings.
google avatar

Daniella D.

Yelp
Just kind of meh. Coleslaw was just cabbage with a drizzle of dressing... very bland rice and the shrimp were not great.

Jordan F.

Yelp
Got the fish shrimp and fries, Everything tastes like it was store bought from the coconut shrimp to the fish mind you we expected real fish on the island turned out to be fish sticks coulda made better food at home I don't like to review places but food wise this is truly one of the worst experiences I've had in a very long time
