Savannah, Georgia Travel Guide: A Local Expert Shares What to Do in Savannah, Georgia — Where to Stay, Shop, and Eat

"This district is the epitome of quintessential Savannah, with more than two miles of whimsical streets and squares to explore. The architecture here is striking, with a mix of restored 18th—and 19th-century homes, Victorian mansions with gingerbread accents, and buildings influenced by Greek and Gothic Revival. Stroll through any of its 22 squares and stop at the countless monuments throughout the district to learn more about Savannah’s centuries-old history." - Karen Norian

Loved the Savannah Historic District! It's a beautiful and charming area that truly feels like stepping back in time. The architecture is stunning, with cobblestone streets, historic homes, and moss-draped oak trees creating a picturesque atmosphere around every corner. Forsyth Park is absolutely gorgeous! The iconic fountain, wide green spaces, and shaded walking paths make it the perfect place to relax or take a stroll. It really captures the essence of Savannah’s Southern charm.

Savannah’s Historic District is full of charm and history, and it’s easy to explore entirely on foot. The Riverwalk is a highlight, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and a great honey store worth stopping by. There are hop on hop off and trolley available. Beautiful green medians lined with weeping willow and oak trees give the area a peaceful feel. Don’t miss the old cemetery and historic buildings throughout – it’s a truly memorable place to visit.

Savannah is a beautiful city to explore!! Lots of history. We unfortunately only had a day, and it definitely wasn't enough time. We did the hop on hop off trolley tours. It was nice to have transportation around the area for the day while also having the freedom to just get off and explore. Which I highly recommend you do! The cemetery was very neat to see. I hope on our next trip to see more of what Savannah has to offer. These photos are just a glimpse into what we saw and what you can look forward to seeing yourself.

Savannah Historic District – Southern Charm at Its Finest The Savannah Historic District is truly one of the most beautiful and enchanting places in the United States. Walking through its cobblestone streets feels like stepping into a living museum, where every corner tells a story. The stunning architecture, majestic oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and perfectly preserved 18th and 19th-century buildings make this area absolutely magical. There’s so much to explore – from historic homes and churches to charming boutiques, local art galleries, and cozy cafés. The city squares, each with its own character and monuments, offer peaceful spots to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Don’t miss Forsyth Park – it’s the crown jewel of the district. The district is extremely walkable, safe, and filled with warm Southern hospitality. Whether you're a history buff, a photography lover, or just looking to enjoy a romantic stroll, the Savannah Historic District is an unforgettable destination. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Georgia – it’s a true gem of the South!

First time visiting Savannah and I fell in love! The tress are just a beautiful piece of the history here. Walking down the shops was pleasant. I enjoyed the candy store I don’t remember the name but they make the candy there and give you samples. It’s a great shop to visit and bring the kids when visiting here. Walking down the waterfront was also nice and watching the boats pass by was neat. There is so much to look at and visit. The shops have a variety of options and restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend visiting here with family. Make sure to check the weather because it can get hot.

Savannah offers a perfect blend of rich history and Southern hospitality. We especially enjoyed the ferry ride at dusk, which was a highlight of our visit. The downtown area exudes a European city-center charm, adding an extra layer of magic to our trip.

Wife and I took a day trip here. I had never been before. There was so much to do. Between tours, shops, places to eat. We ran out of time well before we ran out of things to do. Excited to go back again! If you are a history buff I highly recommend one of the tours in the area. Well worth the money spent and you will learn A LOT!
