Savica Waterfall

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia. You need to arrive very early to admire it. It's difficult to take photos on weekends. There's an entrance fee. From the parking lot, it's about a 10-minute walk to the waterfall. The walk to the waterfall is easy. There's a place to eat near the parking lot. Overall, I recommend it.

Slap Savica – Slovenia’s most dramatic waterfall (May 2025) A 78-metre silver ribbon crashing out of a dark cave high in the limestone cliff – this is pure Julian Alps magic. After the short but steep climb (about 20–25 min from the car park, 558 steps), you’re rewarded with one of the country’s most iconic sights: the A-shaped fall thundering into a turquoise pool, surrounded by sheer rock walls dripping with moss and spring green. The roar is deafening, the spray cools you instantly on a warm day, and the view from the wooden platform feels like the grand finale of a fantasy movie.

A quick walk from the parking, or a good 40 minute cycle ride from the town up a lot of elevation brings you to this monstrosity of a waterfall- formed by two separate streams combining at the valley, it creates two waterfalls at the same spot. The water is spectualur and powerful. You cannot get into the water however, it is closed by a gate for safety.

Beautiful waterfall and bigger than we expected! We parked at the base (€5 for up to three hours), paid €4 to enter (€2.50 for people 65 and over), and then walked about 20 minutes to the top. We spent around an hour there in total, including the hike We arrived around 8:15am on a Wednesday in late August. We had no trouble finding parking and there weren't many people at the waterfall when we were there.

One of the places in Slovenia that truly enchanted me. An absolutely stunning waterfall – I’d rate it much higher than the one in Logar Valley. That one is also easy to reach, but here the whole setting makes it special, especially if you combine the visit with a trip to Lake Bohinj, which is only about 15–20 minutes away by car. From the parking lot it’s then another 20-minute walk on a simple, unpaved trail to reach the falls. The sight is breathtaking. Honestly, if I had more time, I could just sit there for hours staring at the water. At the entrance, you pay just a few euros, and there’s also a natural spring where you can drink fresh water straight from the tap – a really nice touch. The staff at the gate are friendly, and you can also pick up some small souvenirs there. But the main attraction is of course the waterfall itself. It’s simply incredible, and I’d say a must-see if you’re in the area.

Our host at Anzk Bed & Breakfast recommended we visit the waterfall... It's absolutely gorgeous and we were glad we did! You can park close by and walk up the steps to the waterfall... There are a lot of steps and some handrails. Probably expect 20 to 30 minutes to get to the top. There are a few places to stop along the way and rest if you need to rest. The View is definitely worth the climb! The water is absolutely beautiful and it's nice and cool at the top!

It’s nature, so it’s beautiful. But you have to pay to park, then pay €4 per adult to hike it. The path is well maintained with many steps. But when you get near the top there are only some narrow steps for viewing the falls. So I waited in a queue for around 30 minutes just to get a picture that was free of other people. Too crowded. But there is a cafe for food and drink at the parking area.

About 20 minutes along a well-maintained path from the parking lot to the waterfall. Probably a longer stop for a photo at the waterfall. Otherwise, a beautiful and powerful waterfall. Worth a visit and a hike
