The wait seemed forever, Savory Pho, a Vietnamese restaurant, finally opened up at the Porter Ranch Shopping Center. The inside decor has a bistro feel, simple but elegant, bright, spacious and new. The menu is small (for example, they have only 2 appetizer selections), but covers most if not all, of the sought after hallmark Vietnamese favorites. Already, I have been there more than once, each time ordering and tasting, only one dish at a time.
I have tried both the appetizers. The Cho Gio (Egg Rolls) with Pork and the Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls) with Pork and Shrimp. The egg rolls were crisp, straight out of the fryer, and tasted good with the supplied sauce. The spring rolls were a little chewy at times. The accompanying peanut sauce was too sweet for me, and would be better suited on top of a scoop of ice cream :) For the main, I chose the Com Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef). This characteristic entree is a French fusion of sweet and savory cubed filet mignon that is stir fried with onion, garlic, butter and oyster sauce. This beautifully presented dish was exceptional. The filet mignon had good color, a good bite and dissolved in your mouth while unleashing the rich blend of flavors. You could actually taste the butter. I also liked the fresh lettuce, tomato and jalapeño that was part of the plate ensemble. On every visit to Savory Pho, the service was timely, friendly, accommodating and consistently of a high quality. You know I will be going back, to try more from their attractive and enticing menu.
