20 Best Places to Visit in Idaho, According to Locals

"Located in central Idaho and called by one local guide “world-class scenery worthy of a national park,” this 756,000-acre recreation area contains hundreds of miles of trails, more than 300 alpine lakes, and 40 peaks over 10,000 feet; while it is one of the most heavily visited areas in the state, it is noted as being “nowhere near as crowded as nearby Yellowstone, Grand Teton, or Glacier National Parks.”" - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Nice area very pretty, we took a 3 mile hike along the Harriman trail but it really seems better suited to mountain biking than hiking and there's precious little shade if you don't go early or late in the day .

Awesome area to visit with something for everyone. You can hike, bike, paddle, fish, swim, boat, and generally just explore. Alturas Lake was beautiful, and Stanley is a neat little town. Do yourself a favor and come visit!

Here you can find maps, souvenirs, and a ton of education about the wildlife in the area. It’s a great place to bring kids and has some activities for them.
