Beautiful old buildings in a stunning setting. We stayed a couple of nights and had a super time exploring The Lakes. There are a few steps to go up and down in the Hotel but we were given a room with a wet room bathroom, and there were hand holds in there. Although there was a small issue with the high dusting and the shower not draining very well, there were excellent bath mats to ensure my footing and things were fixed very quickly. There's an old school charm about the the place. Not very mobility scooter friendly, but they allowed us to do the very shortest routes (via staff only areas) to reduce the distances. The food was spectacular. Simple food, great quality and beautifully cooked. Amazing flavours. A proper chef, who understood his job, was in charge for sure!. I'd go back just for the food! The staff were lovely too. Very attentive and welcoming (in a northern way). I'd happily stay here again as long as I have a friend to help with the steps that don't have hand holds.

Perfect place for a weekend away with my dad and sister. I can't really fault the place other than maybe the decor is a little dated in the main part of the hotel, it's not bad it's just maybe not overly fancy which suited us really. Just far enough out for it to not be massively busy like Keswick but enough people around to have a good atmosphere. The staff were amazing and the rooms were spotless, we even got a flash of tea made for us when we asked for some hot water for our hikes

The staff at this hotel are absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. Nick, our breakfast server, was a delight as were his colleagues. The staff at the Riverside bar were amazing and just bright, happy people. Lovely fire, very welcoming. The breakfast options and quality are incredible. Eggs were perfect, kippers delicious, the Benedict was superb. It's no wonder they have won awards. You come for the staff and the superb quality of food and service. The condition of the hotel is mostly fine, a few things that you'd expect to be better for the price. Very clean, though and turned over nicely. We loved our stay and the hotel made not being able to complete the extensive hiking we had planned due to storms very comfortable and fun.

Great pub attached to the hotel. The food was good, though the menu has been trimmed down since we last visited a couple of years ago. Decent selection of beers and wine, though not as many as per previous visits. Great service as always and great atmosphere when busy with walkers and locals mixing in chat.

The receptionist kindly offered to put our soaking wet clothing, boots and bags into a drying room. It was a major kindness for us hikers. The room was very nice and the heated towel rail and convection heater gave warmth and further drying options. The TV had lots of channels for the technically able. Good food at the bar and breakfast table.

Firstly I have never posted a review before but feel that this hotel and staff truly deserve to be praised. We have just spent three nights here and the hotel more than exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect for us. The breakfast was excellent and the same goes for the Riverside Bar where we ate and drank at the end of each day. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great few days away.

This is perfectly situated if you want beautiful Lake District hiking. The hotel was comfortable, water pressure great, staff friendly and helpful. I used Katie and Jason to check my hiking plans so i didn't do anything dodgy. The food in the pub is very good. You can walk 1/2 mile to the youth hostel for dinner or lunch as a change. A residence bar in the hotel to relax in after the pub.

We didn't stay at the hotel but we did eat at the Riverside bar, there was plenty of seating area and a very homely feel, the bar staff were very helpful and friendly, menu had just enough choice not to much,we both had fish and chips which was cooked to perfection, the tartar sauce was made from scratch I do believe and tasted great,a good selection of local ales and I had a non alcoholic beer as I was driving. We were particularly surprised at how fast the food came soon after we ordered it,I was within 10 minutes,we parked at the hotel carpark,we will book the hotel next time and check it out,. Thanks 👍
