The elegant Art Deco interior of this 1969-built and well preserved theatre, with its huge chandelier, bronze arabesque-like lamps and wall reliefs showing the history of Thailand is rather a unique piece of architecture, worth a detour from the Siam Sq./MBK shopping area. Movie tickets are inexpensive (the closer to the screen the cheaper, 4th or 5th row in the cheapest 120-baht zone are ok), popcorn is 40b. Ticket sellers speak English, ushers are very kind. The cinema boasts a 1000-seats auditorium, the seats are comfortable and fitted with cup holders. The a/c inside is unrelenting - bring a blanket if you do not want to freeze to death.
Unfortunately Scala fails at what it is designed for: showing high quality movie picture. There is an annoying geometric distortion on the screen: it feels like watching the inside of a large sphere, which makes the movie experience very strange, if not unbearable. Also, the colours seemed a bit washed. The stereo sound was fine, though.
