Location: not bad. On the edge of the town but only a few minutes walk from the Roman ampitheatre and 10 mins walk from the city centre. Next door to the nearby convenience store we discovered a basic but cheap and cheerful bar full of friendly local characters, where my group gathered for a beer each evening before going into town.|Hotel: it’s rather basic, with dated décor of the fake flowers and random ornaments variety. Not suitable for a romantic weekend away, but is fine for a group of friends. |Breakfast: a basic but acceptable buffet: cold meats and cheeses, fruit, bread/pastries, olives, tomatoes, hardboiled eggs and cereals. |There were a few issues: in one of the rooms, the air con and fridge didn’t work, we couldn’t work out how to turn the TV on (but that wasn’t a big deal) one of the power points didn’t work and sparks and smoke came out of the hairdryer when it was turned on. The staff quickly sorted the air con and provided a new hairdryer when we mentioned it, but we thought that maybe the electrics generally could benefit from being checked over. |In this context, the lack of a fire escape from the top floor was a bit worrying, as was the fact that if someone else has locked the front door you need to use a key in order to get out of the building. At one point I found I was locked in, as I’d left the key upstairs with my room-mate so had to go back up two flights of stairs to get it. |The fact that only one key is provided per room (not per guest) is inconvenient if room-mates are coming and going at different times as we were asked to take the key when we went out, rather than leave it behind reception. |Staff: the receptionist was friendly and helpful, but the member of staff in charge of the breakfast room was rather scary and told us off for (variously) using too many plates, sitting at the wrong tables, helping ourselves to juice after the 10am deadline and attempting to take our cups of tea upstairs to the room (as there are no tea-making facilities in the rooms).|Observations on Pula generally: an attractive little city with interesting architecture and history and a good variety of bars and restaurants. Pleasingly, very few drunk Brits there; it seems to attract an older crowd. There is some graffiti but generally the city is pretty clean and we didn’t see any signs of crime. |Most of the Croatians we met (waiters, shopkeepers etc) speak very good English and enjoy using it.

Not worth the money, outdated and stuck in the 90s. Breakfast offers minimal variety, with cold cuts from the day before, and there’s a smell of sewage in the dining hall. The only practical aspect is its proximity to the Arena.

Neat hotel in an 800 year old building, located within walking distance of the Arena, and pretty much everything else. Rooms are eclectic. Breakfast spread is quite nice. J1ust remember what Scaletta means.

Hotel Scaletta is in a great location, about 3 minutes walk from the amphitheatre and start of the historic city. Parking is a few minutes walk away so its best to drop your bags first. |Check in was fabulous, very helpful and friendly and even showed me a video of how to get to the parking after I parked in the wrong place. Our room was a good size with both AC and window shutters and lovely decor and personal touches. There was no kettle (a pain for me as I usually have my first tea at 6AM) although you could get tea and coffee from the restaurant downstairs. We also found the internet connection kept dropping so ended up tethering our mobiles to use instead. |Breakfast was outside and down the steps to a room under the hotel, a large and grand location. Breakfast was included in the price and a good start to the day but the choice was more limited than the other hotels on this trip. A good value for money break though.

Great location near the amphitheater and other tourist attractions in Pula. The breakfast spread was very nice and included cooked to order eggs. The owners, Asdren and Doruntina were warm and welcoming and went above and beyond to help us with a number of our travel challenges. We highly recommend their hotel and would stay there again if we return to Pula.

Wonderful hotel - very nice breakfast - extremely helpful staff. The room was exactly what I was looking for, very close to the Pula Arena (Ampitheatre) and the bus station, for a 1-night stay. The hotel staff helped with all of my questions and was very helpful when I needed language help.

A small but very cute family own hotel, very clean and nice. The manager is very helpful and friendly, such a sweet person! Nice breakfast buffet and scrambled eggs are offered as well. Oh, and a beautiful little terrace where you can have your morning coffee! Overall, 9.5 from 10 for this hotel I'd say. If I would return to Pula I will stay there again.

A very cozy hotel with a “homey” feeling that lets you know you’re going to have an amazing stay from the moment you walk in. The location is genius, right next to the amphitheater of Pula, with everything you need in close proximity (including the bus station). Prices are fair. The staff is definitely the sweetest I’ve ever come across to, they’re flexible and willing to make sure they meet you halfway in any situation. They’re always available and stay in contact with you to make sure you get the best experience while staying at the hotel. The interior is simply on spot with breathtaking art and perfect decor. Love it and would definitely pick this place again in the future.
