Scalloway Hotel

An extended stay at Scalloway Hotel due to adverse weather and ferry cancellations. Staff were very helpful in securing the additional 3 nights in dog friendly room. Room was clean and comfortable. Great bed and plenty of wardrobe space. We ate in the hotel 3 nights, twice in the bar and once in the restaurant. Whilst the food was great in the bar, we did have a slight complaint on portion size when in the Restaurant..., staff member quickly sorted for us. Overall happy to stay and will go back. Staff make the stay, very warm, welcoming and friendly.

The staff working here seem to do their best but there is a lack of managerial oversight to this hotel. The meals were good on the whole, although on one occasion fish was not cooked. This was quickly dealt with to be fair and we had a free drink and dessert to compensate. The bed was very firm and shower poor. Bathroom could have done with a good clean. Shame, with a bit more attention to detail it could be souch better.

Lovely little hotel right on the harbour. Evening meal was delicious. The waitresses were great, friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable. Stayed in the four poster bedroom with great views. Breakfast was a huge choice cooked perfectly. Can not fault my stay Everyone was friendly and helpful. The hotel has plenty of parking in immediately outside. Definitely would go back next time I am in Shetlands.

Beautiful room overlooking the harbour.|Staff are friendly and accommodating. |They welcomed us warmly and the hotel was super. |We had fish and chips in the bar area- they were superb. |The hotel is also super dog friendly. |Shower and bathroom modern. All in all we really did enjoy our stay.

Very tricky to review, I think the chef was on leave, because reviews mention good food, but our meal was very disappointing, it arrived cold and not properly cooked, very much gave the impression that it had been microwaved. The pub is good for a ‘local vibe’ and prices for drinks are really cheap. But it does have a bit of a ‘noisy local’ rather than comfy for everyone feeling. The room was great and comfortable, but the shower wasn’t particularly clean and the whole place is ‘rough around the edges’. A homely feel and friendly staff, but not everybody’s idea of a good hotel and the food, including breakfast was a letdown.

We had to spend another night on Shetland due to our flight being cancelled. The manager could not have been more helpful. He liaised with the airport and organised 4 rooms for our party of stranded visitors. The manager went above and beyond to help us. We enjoyed a drink at the bar and then a delicious meal in the restaurant. The room very very clean and comfortable.|The receptionists in the evening and in the morning were absolutely lovely.|Scalloway is a lovely place to visit and we are very grateful to have been able to stay in the Scalloway Hotel.

The hotel was very welcoming as were the staff. It was a good place to travel fro in all our sightseeing trips. The barman was especially friendly . Rooms were clean , car parking was easy

We visited two days in a row and only decided to return because the experience on the first visit was so nice.|For lunch on the first day were served by a lovely young woman who couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant, and nothing was too much trouble. We both ordered the haddock and were very impressed with it. It was a very generous serve and very fresh. |Buoyed by that experience we returned the next day for dinner to try something different on the menu. The service couldn’t have been more different. The person taking our order was almost disinterested in her role and when our drinks finally arrived (lukewarm) they were banged down on the table. Our meals arrived and were also banged down on the table. My friend ordered steak and ale pie and she said it was very nice and was a generous serve. Unfortunately my order of a cheeseburger was beyond awful. The bun was burnt black and the meat pattie was raw with blood clearly running out of it. I took it back and said that I couldn’t eat it. You’d think I’d accused the waitress of deliberately trying to poison me by the reaction I got. No apology, no concern. I had to ask another staff member if I could order the soup instead. I estimated I had to wait another 20 minutes for the soup to arrive and when I asked about its progress they said it was being prepared. When it eventually arrived it too was banged down on the table and the soup had slopped onto the plate. It was a fairly tasteless bowl of what was apparently broccoli soup. All up it took more than an hour from when we first ordered until my soup arrived. ||Some of the staff would clearly benefit from some basic hospitality training. It is of no benefit to the business to have staff with such a poor attitude.

Wonderful, intimate hotel on the coast in central Scalloway. Was so sorry to learn that it has closed.

Lovely hotel with great food. Rooms are comfy and location ideal to discover Shetland. Stayed here twice now and feel very much welcomed. The Scalloway hotel has an excellent reputation for food and you can dine in the more informal bar lounge area or in the restaurant. Breakfast is brilliant too. I will be back!

The only place to stay in Shetland. Hotel is a small quiet quaint place in a spectacular location for your visit. Harbor views are spectular and walking distance to local attractions including an amazing museum. Food is the best Shetland can offer with an amazing breakfast spread. Staff is very friendly and makes you feel like a family member. Great pub downstairs where the locals gather and share their experience on the islands. You will never want to leave.
