Where to Stay in Stockholm (Updated 2025)

"Located right near the central station, Scandic 53 is a convenient base (you can reach the airport in as little as 20 minutes), includes free breakfast, and while the rooms are simple they're quiet and good for a solid night's sleep." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Stockholm (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated that it's right near the central station in Norrmalm, putting you close to restaurants, shops, the Royal Opera, and city parks. It's an affordable midrange hotel with clean Scandinavian design, minimalist rooms that get a lot of natural light, and plush comforters. The complimentary, sprawling breakfast buffet is a great perk in pricey Stockholm, and there's a lounge and outdoor courtyard to relax in; guests also get free access to a nearby fitness center, which I think is an awesome benefit." - Matthew Kepnes

The good: location is great, city center, walkable from train station. Hotel is clean and comfortable, rooms seem to be quiet, even on 1st floor. We arrived about an hour and a half before regular check-in time, the staff person said our room was ready and we could check-in, and after 24 hours of being up and awake because of traveling, that was wonderful, until he said it would cost extra if we’d like to go to our room early. Um, okay, because I would love to wash my face! So I paid extra, but honestly, what? Breakfast is included, and it is pretty decent. It would be nice if they offered complimentary coffee in the lobby, but they don’t, you have to pay for it out of a machine if you’d like a cup anytime of day besides during breakfast hours. Rooms are clean and if you need extra towels or pillows, they are delivered quickly. The not so good: the rooms are small, which, okay, I can deal with, but we were in an extremely dark room, there was a window that overlooked an interior courtyard, however the window was BOLTED shut, with no way to open the window. There is no ventilation, we asked for a fan, they brought one up, so we at least had some air circulation. The bathroom is tiny, the shower is a walk in which I prefer compared to a tub/shower combo, but the water does not drain to the drain very well, so you end up with a small lake over the majority of the bathroom floor (hence ask for extra towels). All staff were pleasant and professional, but next time I would choose elsewhere to stay.

This was my honest review before the events of the last morning that I will explain later. The hotel is rather tired - the carpets are very stained for example. The room was basic - for example no where to hang clothes properly. just a rail over the head of the bed (?!) and a few pegs along the wall. The room hadn’t been properly cleaned from the previous guests, an empty Whisky bottle was still in the room. The safe didn’t work, which we reported but was not dealt with. The positives were the location and the breakfast - a good selection and plenty. The major issue was the last morning. I vape - as do a lot of people and seemed very common in Stockholm. I was on my way outside the hotel to vape when a member of staff followed me and said the smell travels in to the reception. I found that a bit hard to believe because there are two doors and a bend between the street and the reception but I acknowledged the point and said I would walk further down the road (which I had done on previous mornings). I was then told that wasn’t good enough and ordered not to use the same side of the road as the hotel and to stand on the other side of the road if I wanted to vape. I had seen other guests smoking or vaping outside the hotel numerous times and, as far as I am aware, it is not illegal to smoke or vape on the street in Sweden? I found ordering me to stand on the other side of the road a step too far. Needless to say for this reason alone, I will not stay there again. Even if this hadn’t happened, I probably wouldn’t for the cleanliness and basic rooms.

Not going to deny that the rooms are small but with luggage storage capacity under the bed it works. We were also given a room with a window (didn’t pay for that) which was nice. Breakfast was excellent. Also liked that they had luggage lockers so we could check out and still leave the bags safe until it was time for us to move on. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was quiet. Good value for money.

We stayed for three nights in June to take in the Diamond League athletics and found the whole experience to be excellent. The room was a little small but perfectly adequate and it was very clean. However, the staff were attentive and always pleasant. Best of all, breakfast was fabulous, with a huge selection of fresh food readily available. Location was right in town, four mins from Central Station and three mins from city centre. Took twenty mins to walk to edge of Old Town. (Gamla Stan). On a personal note, having no coffee in room was disappointing and then charging for coffee in reception felt a bit mean. However, overall, we were very impressed, it was excellent value and we would use again.

Perfect location for Stockholm visit. Friendly staff, but check-in took some time because only single receptionists were available when we visited. Breakfast was great. There was some roadwork when we visited the next to the hotel and some loud noices started at 7:00 in the morning. Which wasn't hotel fault but annoying still.

Perfect hotel for those who want to stay in Stockholm. Not in the heart of the old town but in a very convenient location. Friendly staff, completely cash free and spectacular breakfast

Review: Great Location and Friendly Service I recently stayed at this hotel in central Stockholm and had a pleasant experience. The location is undoubtedly its biggest advantage—just a short walk from T-Centralen, making it incredibly convenient for access to long-distance trains, the metro, and other public transport options. The rooms are quite small, but they are clean and functional. What truly stands out is the exceptionally friendly and service-minded staff, always ready to assist with a smile. The breakfast was also a highlight, offering a good variety of options to start the day well. If you’re looking for a hotel with a prime location, great service, and a good breakfast, this is a solid choice—just keep in mind that the rooms are on the smaller side.
