Nice stay – but a serious issue with parking
The Scandic Hotel in Lund is generally a pleasant and practical place to stay. We often stop here when travelling between Germany and Sweden. The hotel has the relaxed feel of a motel, as it is located slightly outside the city centre, with a large parking area and typically no difficulty finding a room, even at short notice. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the food is good, and the rooms are clean and functional.
However, despite the overall positive experience, there is one major downside that seriously affects the impression: the parking situation.
As is normal for this kind of hotel, parking used to be free of charge and included in the price of your stay. But since this year, that has changed: the hotel has outsourced its entire parking area to a third-party surveillance company. Guests are now required to register with this external company, provide their personal data, and pay for parking – even when staying at the hotel. If you forget to register or make a mistake in the process, you are hit with a fine. No warnings, no flexibility, no courtesy to actual paying guests.
This system is not just inconvenient – it feels downright hostile and reflects a terrible attitude toward the hotel’s own customers. It gives the impression that the hotel prioritises its agreement with a parking enforcement company that surveils and fines its guests over the comfort and trust of those who stay there. For a hotel that otherwise seems to care about service, this is a baffling and disappointing decision.
To Scandic management: Please reconsider this arrangement. Penalising your own guests is no way to build loyalty.
