Scandic Vulkan (Oslo, Norway) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A designer hotel set on the site of a former silver mine, next to a great food market. Modern bedrooms have bold feature walls and good facilities; the external-facing rooms have full-length windows. The bright, semi industrial style restaurant offers Italian-inspired dishes – in summer they only serve pizza." - Tablet Hotels

Just returned from a weekend break.|Easy check in, 2 rooms booked, right next door to each other. Modern with everything you need- toiletries, hairdryer, iron and safe in room. |Breakfast- this was fantastic, so much choice- bacon, eggs, sausages and beans. Meats, cheeses and salmon. Cereals, yoghurt and pastries and sp many choices for drinks- hot and cold.|The hotel is a bit of a distance from the centre of Oslo but transport- buses and trams are easily accessible. The hotel had many restaurants and bakeries close by, including one in the hotel serving pizza and pasta.

The Scandic Vulkan is a modern, beautiful, and centrally located hotel in Grünerløkka, making it ideal for a city break in Oslo.|The hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of several very good restaurants, and public transportation will take you to the central station in ten minutes.||We particularly enjoyed the extensive and varied breakfast buffet. Even if you stay at the hotel for a whole week, as we did, there is enough choice to have something different for breakfast every day: from bread to hot dishes, fresh fruit, and various types of granola, there is everything you could want. Vegan options are also available! The breakfast staff were extremely well organized and always ensured that the tables were clean and the buffet well stocked, even on busy days. The hotel's own restaurant, Ferro, is also a really good choice if you don't feel like going out after a long day in the city.||Our room on the top floor was modern and functional. For our taste, the mattress was very soft, but that's a matter of personal opinion. It was a shame that there were no streaming apps installed on the smart TV and that mirroring via cell phone didn't work, as it is often the case in hotels. You could choose whether you wanted your room cleaned every day, which we think is a very good policy. Unfortunately we were not so satisfied with the quality of the cleaning: during our stay, it seemed as though the room had never been vacuumed or dusted, or only very superficially.|In our opinion, the reception staff was also not a shining example for the hotel: in general, they seemed rather unmotivated and not very service-oriented (with the exception of one employee who was on duty when we arrived). For example, on the day of our departure (we wanted to go back into town after checking out and pick up our luggage later), we had to bring our luggage into the very small and very full luggage room ourselves and then take it out again later, which was extremely tedious. None of the staff at the reception desk offered to help, which we found pretty poor for a hotel of this category. Also, at checkout, we were not asked if we were satisfied with our stay, which should really be standard practice for a hotel of this caliber.||All in all, we would choose the Vulcan again, as the advantages clearly outweigh the less positive aspects.

I recently spent two nights at Scandic Vulkan Hotel on a business trip to Oslo 🇳🇴. The location in the Grunerlokka area is convenient although it is a bit distant from the station and consequently the access to the airport. There are many bars and restaurants around but the hotel remains quiet. I was upgraded to a suite upon arrival, which is always nice. However, the suite location was a bit weird as I had to use stairs from the 7th floor where the elevator stopped to the 8th floor and walk along an outside corridor to the room. The suite set-up was also not very functional with the kitchen located in a corridor and the living room at the end of the suite. However, the view over the surrounding area was nice. The bathroom was modern and very clean but there were several signs of wear elsewhere in the suite (e.g., the entrance door) making a refresher welcome. My request to fix an annoying TV noise was promptly attended but when I came back in the evening I noted that the bed had not been made although the towels had been changed. It was really strange. The breakfast was very good with plenty of options and fresh products. However, there was barely enough space to accommodate everyone at peak hour. The location, in another aisle of the building with access through a second elevator, was also not the most convenient. Scandic Vulkan Hotel is not a bad place for a stay but because of the inconveniences from the service or from the hotel setting I experienced I will probably look for another place.

Title says it all. The location was a 10-30 minute ride away via tram or bus from everything we wanted to do, plus a 5 minute walk to the heart of Grunerlokka. The river path was a two minute walk, and a great route for a 5 mile run. Breakfast was simply amazing. Room was comfortable and quiet. Would definitely recommend.

The amenities in a standard room are simply nonexistent. There's no fridge or wardrobe. This is the first time I've seen a four-star hotel without a bottle of water or a kettle with tea. There's also no toothpaste or disposable slippers. You have to buy everything at the reception! The biggest surprise for me was that every time you wanted a cup of tea, you had to go down to the reception desk and pay for it. In every hotel I've stayed in, even three-star ones, it was standard practice for water and tea to be free, and even refilled if needed.

Google
The room was quite spacious and the bathroom large, everything was clean, and the breakfast was wonderful and very delicious. However, unfortunately, I was given what seemed to be one of the worst rooms, facing the inner courtyard with almost no real window. The room felt rather empty — no kettle, no tea, no water — just many useless lamps and hangers. For this price, I honestly expected something more comfortable. I believe that in this area it’s possible to find something better.

The location is accessible to city centre. The breakfast has a variety of options. The room had a nice view and quiet surrounding. The customer service was accommodating and polite. We had a great time in Scandic Vulkan hotel.

Excellent location not very far from the city center. Clean rooms and walkable to transportation. Great breakfast. Special thanks to Abida in the breakfast room. She was extremely kind, professional and caring.

Yelp
RIGHT BY MATHALLEN I've stayed at a few Scandic hotels in Oslo and the Vulcan is the closest to various restaurants and food sources. Definitely the place to stay if you a foodie. The hotel room itself seemed pretty mediocre, since it doesn't have the basic amenities like some of the other Scandic hotels, such as water cooker and mini fridge. Also, the hair dryer wasn't working and there were cracks on the glass cups in the bathroom. I really think these small details make a huge difference. I'm giving it a four because breakfast buffets at Scandic hotels usually never fail. I enjoyed their selection of fish, meat, veggies, fruits, juices, yogurts and warm drinks. Maybe it's the holiday season, so the seating arrangements/decorations were also very "koselig." Overall I had a good experience, and would come back again.

Yelp
The hotel is clean, comfy, decorated with modern art.its jus located 2 stops from central station n if u want , u can jus walk going there. aside from it, the location has diff restaurants on the same complex n i heard one is serving the best burgers in town.customer service is fast and friendly here.they even personnally sent us an info regarding the culprit rock on how to get there.what i like the most is their breakfast compared with last 2 hotels i've been n 2 countries.a lot of food from their traditional porridge, tasty norwegian salmon, diff flavors of yoghurt n a bottle n infused water in diff fruits.they also served a energy shots which i needed and more.their lounge and bar is very inviting.if i get back to norway, for sure im coming back on this hotel.

Yelp
We chose this hotel over the others in Oslo, because they offered temporary free parking at the time. Ordinary price is NOK 240 per day!!!! The hotel is super modern. Really classy for being Scandic! If you often stay at Scandic, you will be surprised! Same wooden floor which usually makes the rooms sensitive to noise/sound but we had no problems with that here. We did not hear the neighbors take a shower, which is often the case at other Scandics. Also, being Scandic they use container soap and shampoo which is good for the environment. Bring your own conditioner, you will need it! What i do not like about Scandic is that you never get a bathroom floor towel! This place has a bin in toilet, though. The room has flat screen TV with 20 channels. Firm beds. Ok temp in the room. Safety box but no mini bar. We got a corner room facing street and work site, which at first was a disappointment, but we realized that it is the best side. Rooms facing the market hall and restaurants has to deal with late night activities. it was pretty noisy during the weekend and warm summer nights. The construction site may be ugly, but still quiet at night. Also there are rooms facing opposite hotel wall, which didn't seem to be very nice either. There are a few rooms that has balcony or similar to it and some at bottom floor that has a nice patio. Also at the shared patio there were at least two rooms you could see right into. Try to avoid to get these rooms on bottom floor! But what I like the most, is the location! Forget the hotels in the middle of the city with just a few minutes to the hustle! This one is located in a super cool neighborhood. And in the middle of a new trendy area with bars and restaurants just 30 seconds away! We regret that we didn't have time to explore them more, since we had already made reservations at other places beforehand. It is located just 5 minutes from another super cool neighborhood, Grünerlökka. A lot of hipsters. Those familiar to Stockholm and Gothenburg, can compare to Söder and Andra Långgatan. Breakfast as any Scandic breakfasts. Try not to come the last 30 minutes as it is less to choose from, which I totally respect. But when asked, they did come out with fresh servings! I will definitely stay here every time I come to Oslo (loyalty member)! It has the best location out of them all! For sure! And still only 15 minutes by foot to Karl Johan or whatever. Accepts AMEX.

Yelp
Affordable, clean, and comfortable. Scandic is one of the most popular hotels in Oslo and Scandic Vulkan is parked right next to one of the best food halls in the city. Breakfast is included and the beds are great. Mission Taco and Hello Good Pie are right down the street. The in house gym and restaurant are great, too.

Yelp
This "boutique" like hotel is my preferred home in Oslo. Its location is perfect situated next to the gourmet food hall "mathallen", and the restaurants of Grünerløkka. It is very close and in walking distance to the main busy streets of Oslo, but still is quiet and relaxed. Definitely a much clever choice than the "better" mainstream hotels in downtown Oslo. I usually try to combine my stay with an evening cooking class at Kulinarisk Akademi in "mathallen". Ask the reception to help you out. While in the area make sure you visit "Illegal Burger" for an exceptional food experience.

Yelp
Scandic Vulkan is a bit out of the central district of Oslo, but it's still a great location--the 12 and 13 trams (and one or two others, I believe) are only about two blocks from the hotel, and you're right next door to Mathallen, which was a lifesaver when we were hungry. The Vulkan location is also incredibly affordable for Oslo, and the included breakfast is amazing. The staff was fantastic, the room was clean and a good size, and I had a very nice view from the 8th floor. I would absolutely stay here (or at any of the Scandic hotels) again. My only two suggestions for making the hotel even better include better bath towels and having an in-room electric kettle with mugs for making tea or coffee. The towels are just fine, but I'm a sucker for big, fluffy bath towels.

Yelp
As I am writing this I am sitting in my hotelroom unable to sleep due to the party going on in the restaurant on the floor below me. For some reason the hotel is built with the windows on the second and thrid floor having a view into the hotel restaurant/breakfastroom. There is little or no soundproofing. Asked to get a different room, but to no avail. Rude staff, with no interest in helping. They offered earplugs. The WiFi is slow so I cannot seek refuge in netflix. I would not use this hotel if you are a business traveller or travelling with children. There are many better options in Oslo. Do not stay here. I you for some reason have to stay here, avoid the second or third floor.
