We visited Scape Park during a family vacation to the Dominican Republic after coming across it online—it looked like a fun, adventurous way to explore some of the country’s natural beauty. Although our hotel concierge seemed uninterested and recommended a different park, we chose this one for its variety of activities, and overall, it delivered a memorable day. The park offered stunningly clear water to swim in, a zip-line straight into a pool, an underground cave tour, and walked a self-guided historical and cultural trail where you can learn a lot. The cenote was beautiful and cold, though the walk there was unexpectedly long and through muddy, uneven terrain, so be prepared. Other unique touches included an iguana enclosure you could walk through and a lively “monkey island” full of mischievous, entertaining monkeys. We didn’t do everything, but what we did was enjoyable.
That said, the park layout requires a lot of walking, and things are spread out more than you’d expect. The map doesn’t quite reflect the actual distances, and it’s definitely not suited for young kids, people with mobility issues, or anyone pregnant (many activities prohibit participation for safety reasons). Food options were limited and overpriced for the basic item you get. Lockers are also inconveniently located far from most activities, so if you’re visiting, it’s really helpful to go with someone willing to sit some things out and keep an eye on your belongings.
In the end, I’m glad we went—it was a full, adventurous day and gave us a great mix of nature and excitement. But it’s also the kind of place where one visit feels like enough. If you’re in Punta Cana and up for a high-energy day outdoors, it’s worth checking out—but go prepared, wear good shoes, and pack light.
