Unfortunately there had been an issue with the company that books my workplace's accommodation and they had not communicated correctly with the hotel what nights i required, missing the first night. The hotel staff and duty manager could not have been more helpful. On a Tuesday night in Dunedin where there was no accommodation available in the town, the duty manager called customers yet to check in to see if they were still coming and contacted countless other motel/hotels, finally finding somewhere that had a cancellation. The following night when i arrived at the southern cross to check in, the manager checked me in and much to my surprise, gave me the penthouse on the sixth floor. Great service by the southern cross team, compensating me for an error that wasn't theirs.
