7 must-see places in Zurich’s hip and trendy Kreis 5 neighbourhood - SilverKris

"Housed in the atmospheric Schiffbau building — a former ship manufactory — this 750-seat theatre with three stages stages a large seasonal slate of new productions (close to 20 each season) and is regarded as a major institution in the German-speaking theatre world; recent seasons have included ambitious shows such as Moby Dick; or, The Whale and Border. The converted industrial space also contains a jazz club and a restaurant with a sunny terrace, making it a lively cultural hub for performances, cocktails and pre- or post-show dining." - Michelle Koh Morollo

Zurich's main theatre is not at the level that should be expected from Switzerlands largest city. The building is dated without being retro chic and often feels cramped. Plays are also quite often disappointing. Major German cities and Vienna offer far better options if theatre is your thing.

Amazing theatre with an amazing production team. The programming is forward looking and involves some of the best artists in the world. I saw Pinocchio and has been amazing!

Google
Amazing performance by the artists, excellent show and venue. Coat room staff unfortunately very stressed and rude or would be 5 stars

Schauspielhaus Zürich: Expect the unexpected - from Shakespearean drama to hilarious mishaps. You might even catch a collapsing set! Top-notch acting and a guaranteed good time.

Very nice, cosy theater. Garderobe, bar at the entrance. I loved plastic kids' seats that are provided for younger and shorter generation to let them see the stage in full :) The theater is quite small, so it doesn't really matter if you take seats in parter on balcony.

Good looking theater overall. Rating it a 3 stars because booked seats in the closest lodge and I could barely see the stage due to the lights equipment placed in the view scope. Those seats shouldnt even be sold.

Architecture does not feel atmospheric but cosy and professional, quality of plays vary greatly from 8/10 to 1/10, you have to go with an open mind.

One of the best theatres in Zurich. They offer 50% off onall price categories for students. Even if you do not watch a show it's worth it to enter to grab one of their magazines. It usually provides interesting background articles bout current shows and artists. Recently went there to watch Hamlet which was a magnificent experience.
