Day Trips in Amsterdam

"This lively beach resort in The Hague’s wealthy northern district features a sandy beach, colorful esplanade, and the Scheveningen lighthouse. To add to the fun, there’s a Sea Life aquarium, Steigenberger Kurhaus music theater, Scheveningen Museum, and a casino. Trendy clubs, restaurants, surf schools, and other water sports options line the wide Noorderstrand, which means North Beach. Giant sculptures add a whimsical touch while numerous bars and eating establishments provide spots to grab a drink or meal while watching the action in the harbor. You can bungee jump from Scheveningen Pier in summer. For vicarious thrills, a webcam captures the action live and lets you keep an eye on the waves in this surfing hotspot. From Amsterdam Central, take the Intercity train to Den Haag Central. Transfer to Bus #9 to Scheveningen Noorderstrand. The trip should take about one-and-a-half hours." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"Hitting the Beach at Scheveningen A four-kilometer seaside promenade is the perfect place for a stroll at Scheveningen, a beach resort in Den Haag's wealthy northernmost district. In addition to a sandy beach, colorful esplanade, pier and the Scheveningen lighthouse, there's a Sea Life aquarium, Pathé cinema, the Steigenberger Kurhaus music theater, Scheveningen Museum and a casino. Trendy clubs, restaurants, surf schools and other water sports options line the wide Noorderstrand (North Beach) boulevard. After a three-year metamorphoses completed in 2013, the beach-side stretch offers the best of sun, sand and surf on Holland's western coastline. Giant sculptures by the sea add a whimsical touch, while numerous bars and eating establishments provide spots to grab a drink or a meal while watching the action in the harbor."

Yelp
Love Scheveningen Beach! But love it more and best place to be when you're in the Hague when the weather is perfect for outdoors! Which by the way, I finally experienced for 1 full week in the middle of June after having visited the Hague 3 times thus far this year. It's perfect for running either on the boardwalk or on the beach along the North Sea. However, if you do opt for a beach run, be prepared to trek lightly across a wide body of soft sand before getting to the wet-firm sand, otherwise you'll have loads of sand in your running shoes! I'd also suggest running in the early mornings so you can practically have the entire beach to yourself, including a view of the sun rising and if you are lucky, maybe even a view of a chariot rider with his/her horse galloping along, it makes the run that much more enjoyable IMO (coming from a person who has never lived in a town with an easily accessible beach)! Not only does this beach offer a scenic run, you can do lots of other outdoor activities (e.g., biking, rollerblading, kite surfing, fishing by the red & green lighthouses, beach volleyball, regular beach stuff, amusement rides on the pier) and plenty of dinning options literally right on the sand, with cabana-type patio seating. Weather permitting, I am totally visiting this beach again when I am in town!

Yelp
Be ready for the traffic as people come all the way from Germany when sun comes out. I loved the live bands most in restaurants nearby. If interested in an elevated view of the sea, there is a ferris wheel . Also a good place to go is the sand dune area, near the wheel. It is possible to take a walk in some terrains, Just be careful of dog poops.

Yelp
Looking to get a tattoo? to go bungee jumping? to lie on a huge beach and forget real life? cruise on the boardwalk? get a beach cabana for the day at an overpriced beach bar? No need to fly across the Atlanti: welcome to the "Jersey Shore" of the Netherlands. Everyone I bring to Scheveningen is blown away that we are 10 minutes away from windmills and canals. Bonus points if you can say the name correctly. My favorite mode of transport is a 5km OV fiets ride from Den Haag centraal.

Yelp
Love the vibe and brisk summer air. I love the beach restaurants. Great all around but take layers. In the summer it can be a hot day or very cold.
