2 years ago I wrote a great review on this hotel, and that's why I came back. This time my experience was the complete opposite and a complete disappointment. The front desk is so unfriendly. They made me feel very unwelcomed and when I asked for a tea kettle it was like an experience like none other. I made a dinner reservation and when I arrived they told me the restaurant was closed. The property itself is still beautiful, but I could never recommend anyone staying here. The restaurant in the castle next door is excellent and is a much better choice than dining here.

Schloss Eckberg is superb located at a hill along the river Elbe near Dresden.|From the large terrace surrounded by beautiful gardens ,you have a great panoramic view at the river and Dresden. |With a number of banquet rooms in the castle, it is obvious a great place for weddings and parties.|In the castle there are only a few relative small (22-27m2) and expensive 4 star hotel rooms.|To increase the room capacity for large party's, additional 3 star rooms (17-19m2) are created in a new building about 150 m from the castle.|The Kavaliershouse. The very small rooms are perfect for guests who have a party in the castle and need only to sleep in the rooms during the small hours of the night.||But here the problem starts for the individual holiday guest, who is probably not their main source of income, but a “ filler” of the last empty rooms.||We stayed in room 208. The smallest (17m2) and located at the backside with no view at all. A claustrophobic experience. No airco or fan. First cost saving experience!||The design of the building is awkward. In contrast with the ultra small rooms, the public area’s have spacious staircases and “ business lounges”.|As “ tourists” we wanted to “ escape “ our tiny room and expected to find coffee & tea facilities in the business lounge. |Tea cups yes, but all production facilities closed. Our second impression of cost saving.||We booked for 3 nights. When we complained that our beds were not made, we were told that this would only be done if we paid extra. Third cost saving.||No extra pillow in room. Fourth cost saving.||Breakfast was priced 4 stars at € 28 pp. But no fresh juice served, very little fruit, etc.. Nothing special. It was 2-3 star quality. Fifth cost saving.|After this food experience we decided not to book for dinner or anymore breakfast.||But the most disturbing experience was the attitude of the receptionist. Arrogant, no hospitality or sorry.|He really made us feel in-experienced third class guests, when we mentioned the above 5 points.||We booked month’s in advance, direct at the hotel, for 3 nights, to help the hotel to save commission costs. |Any experienced receptionist would allocate’s in this case the best room available.|Not so at Schloss Eckberg. You get the worse room available!|So next time book via Tripadvisor and Expedia or Booking!|We canceled our 3 night and found a better hotel via Tripadvisor.

Schloss Eckberg is a true Fairy tale castle hotel....but you don't need the budget of a King to stay here! Though coincidentally, I was first introduced to Schloss Eckberg by the Saxon Royal family of the region. The grounds are lush and magical, take a walk in their private forest, and the included breakfast buffet is sumptuous! You can stay in the castle or the Cavalier house, which is my preference, to get one of the top floor "maisonette" rooms, which has a sleeping loft. Also, parking is free. The grounds and view of the Elbe river are enchanting. I filmed two music videos here! "Beneath the Mirabella" and "The Dragon" . I come back often as possible!!!

As can be seen from the pictures this is a fabulous building set in wonderful grounds with trees, woodland, gardens and a fountain. The building is set high above the river. It is set some 8 miles [I guess] from the centre of Dresden and if not travelling by car there is a Tram Line [number 11] which runs speedily and every few minutes. I got a good deal with a room in the annexe which is in a modern building nearby. The room was perfectly adequate with a good bathroom and excellent shower. Others mention the lack of coffee and "mint on the pillow"] but these are not common in Germany anyway!||||||My problem was that - as highlighted by others - the restaurant t was closed on a Sunday evening as were all the other facilities such as the wine cellar so that I could not even get a drink. There is another similar establishment just down the road but that too was not open for food and the staff could not tell where food [Sunday evening about 730pm] was available. In many ways I was perhaps fortunate as to cost as the restaurant menu was on the higher cost. Breakfast was fresh [and extra] and the scrambled egg was the best I have eaten ||||The bed was comfortable but - as common with Germany - is two singles pushed together. Room was spotlessly clean

Small rooms, relatively clean. Some dust can be found on the tops of cabinets. Some rooms smell like poorly cleaned toilets. Standard beds, furniture and rooms. The rooms are no longer modern and the mini bar is not great either. The paper label for real water was left without a water bottle. It was very strange. In general, good rooms with a garden view. Great park. The breakfast was fresh and the area were very well organized. The only thing I don't understand is why there were no paper napkins.

Do you want to stay in a castle, yes please?! I had an amazing stay at Schloss Eckberg. The grounds were stunning and well kept. The find was delicious and delightful. I would highly recommend starting here if you are ever in Dresden, Germany.

We recently stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of our car tour. Unfortunately as the two nights arranged for us fell on a Sunday and a Monday, there was no food or bar after breakfast on each day! We had been prepared that there was no dinner available, but had been told that the restaurant closed at 18.00, so we were looking forward to a nice lunch after our drive from Berlin. Sadly we went away hungry!||The castle is very impressive as you drive up, but we found we weren’t staying in the hotel. We were in the annexe which was a short walk from the main hotel. It was pleasant enough! Lovely quiet and clean room, although a little small, but we were able to park the just outside our room.||As we couldn’t have lunch at the hotel, we took the tram into the centre of Dresden. We were able to buy tram tickets from Reception, and the tram stop was a short walk from the hotel. It was very easy to use, and very convenient.||Breakfast in the castle was very good. Beautifully presented, with plenty of choice, served in the restaurant. Sadly the weather was a bit too cool to eat on the terrace, overlooking the river and with views of Dresden. I would have loved to have experienced the restaurant for dinner.||The hotel recommended a Brauhaus for dinner, which was a few stops away on the tram. I’m not sure why they didn’t suggest the bistro/bar at the castle next door. ||We have told the tour company that maybe they should consider the days when arranging the tour in future. We would have liked to have experienced more of the hotel than we did.

This hotel would be a 1-star in the USA. No coffee, tea, or even water kettle in room. Neither charger worked on the sides of the bed. Five euro charge for room key. Naked men and their naked daughters monopolizing the wellness area (Go to jail in most countries for that). Need to get off elevator and climb stairs to get to wellness center. The Jacuzzi was yellow as urine. Needed to lift luggage up and down stairs that are in the hallway for no reason. Construction all around the hotel. Save your vacation by staying somewhere else.

Yelp
If you had ever wished upon a dream... and wanted to stay in a castle while traveling in Europe, I can highly recommend Schloss Eckberg in Dresden The castle was old world, with modern conveniences. Tastefully decorated, delicious breakfast, a welcoming plate of chocolates in the room - couldn't ask for a more romantic stay. While off the beaten track a bit, the U-Bahn was less than a 10 minute walk and easy to get around on. The staff at check-in were helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly.

Yelp
We stayed in the attached Schloss for a weekend and it had incredible views. The food in the Schloss itself was delicious, a tad pricey, but worth it for one night. The service is 5-star and prompt. The wine they paired with our meal was delightful and bold. The outdoor patio was beautiful with the flowers and green garden area with a beautiful statue nearby of a female. The beds themselves in the attached Schloss weren't comfortable and the dog friendly room we stayed in wasn't comfortable becauee there was no air flow in May. It was stagnant and humid. We could barely sleep. I would recommend bringing a fannif you do stay. However the castle grounds are pretty and it is attached to the castle next to it within walking distance through a garden. The price is on par with the location and service. The tram is very close and was very easy to maneuver.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel with unbelievable gardens and landscaping with views of Dresden and the river. I stayed in the Cavalier's House which was clean and quiet. A short walk away is the castle itself where meals are served. Dinner was spectacular with the views of the city at night and breakfast was just as nice with morning light shining on the valley below. I still can't believe that I stayed in a castle that is visible from Dresden. It is pointed out as a landmark if you take the bus tour of Dresden.
