Hotel Schloss Pontresina Family & SPA (Pontresina, Swiss Alps) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"As Swiss villages go, Pontresina may not have quite the name recognition of St. Moritz, just across the valley. But it’s got one thing St. Moritz hasn’t: Hotel Schloss Pontresina. It’s a 19th-century castle, which means that in many ways it’s the best of both worlds: it’s a proper castle, with all of the capital-R Romantic atmosphere that implies, but in terms of comfort it’s every bit a modern luxury hotel rather than some drafty medieval relic." - Tablet Hotels

Schloss Hotel & Spa Pontresina Schloss Hotel & Spa Pontresina is a beautiful alpine retreat with a classic castle-style exterior and stunning mountain surroundings. The setting alone makes it feel special, especially in winter when everything is covered in snow and the views are truly postcard-worthy. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and cozy, blending traditional charm with modern touches. The spa area is a real highlight. After a day of skiing or exploring the Engadin, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind in a peaceful atmosphere. The fire pits by the front entrance create a beautiful wintery ambiance and make arriving at the hotel feel especially cozy and welcoming. Such a lovely touch on cold alpine evenings. Breakfast offers a nice selection and a relaxed start to the day, and the common areas of the hotel are elegant and inviting. The location is excellent, within walking distance to the train station, making it incredibly convenient for day trips. One of the highlights of staying here is the easy access to the Bernina Express experience, which takes you directly to Tirano. Traveling straight from the glaciers to the palm trees in about two hours feels almost unreal and is an unforgettable journey. A big shoutout to Patryk, who was always incredibly helpful, informative, and genuinely positive. His warm attitude and willingness to assist truly enhanced our stay and made us feel well taken care of. Overall, this is a wonderful hotel for those looking for comfort, charm, and a relaxing alpine experience. A great choice for a winter getaway or a scenic mountain stay.

Just a couple of footsteps away from the Main Street, this is one of the grand Spa Hotels of Pontresina. We had two spacious connecting rooms with a fabulous view and a balcony. The pool is pretty big and was never crowded. The highlight of the hotel is the staff though. They were absolutely amazing - we had a smaller room for 2 days and were then moving to the connecting rooms once other members of our party joined us. They automatically upgraded us to the larger rooms for the entire visit. During our stay, my daughter had some teeth issues late at night and Aurora at the front desk gave us her own packet of dental floss for her as the shops were closed! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it unreservedly.

Checked in around 1pm, two hours before the official check-in time, which already made me feel like I had pulled off a small heist. Luckily, the front desk didn’t call the cops and actually gave me a room so I could make it to an afternoon function (that went until midnight, because apparently sleep is for the weak).||Check-in itself was smooth as butter, with the staff smiling and explaining everything like seasoned tour guides. The hotel, however, is what I’d politely describe as ‘vintage chic’… if by chic you mean a strong whiff of the 1970s that never left.||To my surprise, I was suddenly surrounded by a very large group of guests wearing black hats and curly hair locks. At first I thought I’d stumbled into a historical reenactment, but the info sheet later cleared it up. That also explained why the pool had separate swim times for men and women — a unique cultural touch, though not the most convenient if you’re traveling as a couple and just want to cannonball in together.||Decor? Let’s just say ‘retro’ and leave it at that. The real crime scene, however, was the mattress. It was so rock-solid that I started wondering if the hotel had a sponsorship deal with orthopedic clinics. Maybe great for samurai who grew up on tatami mats, but my spoiled back was crying rebellion. Honestly, a mattress topper could turn it from a medieval torture device into a heavenly bed (pun very much intended).||Breakfast? Underwhelming. Definitely not 4-star. If I wanted a sad buffet, I’d raid my fridge after a long night out.||So overall: charming in its quirks, staff were lovely, but the mattress and breakfast alone make me think I’ll let others enjoy the nostalgia while I check in elsewhere next time.

Booked a superior room, which was on the -1 floor overlooking the river. Nice large room, a ton of storage, good bed, good sized shower room. The corridors are huge. Swimming pool very nice, no shallow end, about 1.3m deep consistently. Spa was excellent, one of the best, plenty of capacity, lovely staff. Towels and lockers at pool and spa. Bar area was large, with plenty of seating on leather chesterfield style furniture, very nice visually but could do with a bit more ambiance. Probably fine in winter though. We had varying quality cocktails, unfortunately served in incorrect glasses (everything in a beaker). Breakfast is best described as extensive. Everything you want is there. Salmon, two types of scrambled eggs, huge cheese selection, huge pastry/cake selection, fruit cocktail as well as individual fruits, bucks fizz, etc etc. The restaurant, well spaced tables, good wine list and not expensive for a 4 star in Switzerland. Salads were good, steak a very decent size and perfectly cooked. Good pasta dishes. Not many customers as in the summer, the hotel is not at full capacity. Feels formal as the head waiter is dressed in a suit (same at breakfast) but they are very friendly. I’d imagine in ski season it would be humming. Most restaurants in Pontresina are in the hotels, and seem to only scrape by in summer. In winter they are all packed, so half board in winter would be a reasonable choice, though not necessary in summer. Parking, approx 25 free places in 3 locations no more than 1 minute walk away, plus paid parking 2 mins away in a private covered car park. Reception was nice and friendly, as were all the staff. Dog friendly, though no bowl or blanket provided. Price wise, very competitive in summer and good value for money. Would stay again.

We booked a spa weekend here, with the dream of a relaxing unwinding weekend. Upon arrival, we discovered that the hotel had been almost entirely overtaken by a large group, and the spa/pool area was no longer freely accessible. Instead, arbitrary gender-segregated time slots were imposed for everyone, making it impossible for us as a couple to use the facilities together that we had paid the premium for. This was never communicated at time of booking, in advance or even a day before our arrival. Giving us absolutely no chance to make other arrangements. The hotel charged us full price while delivering a fundamentally altered and degraded experience. My group was extremely disappointed, and unfortunately this will cast a shadow on the entire stay by this lack of transparency and disregard. At this price point, guests deserve honesty and respect, not a bait-and-switch. We left feeling cheated, unwelcome, and angry. If you are considering this hotel for a relaxing spa stay, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Beautiful location in the city center, with stunning views. The hotel is well-maintained and thoughtfully designed. We had a lovely room with a magical view. Comfortable beds, everything was clean and smelled fresh, and the sound of the stream added to a good night’s sleep :) Rich and varied breakfasts. Very friendly and helpful staff. Parking available. I recommend booking directly – the price is better than on booking platforms.

A beautiful castle overlooking the river! I was here with my family a few days ago, we were welcomed very well and as soon as we arrived we drank something while looking at the view from the terrace near the restaurant. spacious rooms with all the comforts and a really nice spa. A special thanks to all the kind and helpful staff and to the barman who accommodated all our requests with his super cocktails, really nice and good! compliments to all the staff we will be back soon thanks

Very disappointed in the service of this 4 star hotel. The breakfast is poor - pre packaged pancakes that they warm to give the appearance they are fresh, eggs seem to be made of powder and when we requested a fresh omelette - made with little care. This is a very tired hotel and the photos are deceptive - certainly would not stay again. Surroundings are beautiful!

Great hotel in beautiful Pontresina with easy access to bus and train. Rooms are classy with comfortable beds. There's also a play area for the kids. Helpful and friendly staff.
