Wow! I don’t think I have ever stayed in a more blissfully perfect hotel! It was like living a dream to sit in the sunshine and admire the lake, or to cosy up in the stunning library with a book at night! I stayed in the smallest solo room but it had plenty of storage and a comfortable bed, and the reception staff were all so lovely and kind. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Salzburg or Sound of Music fans and I think I now need to get married here one day!

The Marlene Dietrich suite in the Schloss was lovely. The best views of lake and mountain. Minibar included was a nice touch. Breakfast was typical of many hotels but had the historic factor to add a touch of wow. 20 mins walk to town or €12 in uber. Room comfortable. Only negative was hallways needed a good paint.

We had a great stay at this hotel for 3 nights in mid December. There are a few things to note before booking to help manage expectations. The hotel was mainly used for seminars and conferences which seems to influence the way it is run and how the rooms in the adjacent building are designed. They are clean and functional but don’t really carry any amenities that you’d expect from such a hotel - no coffee machine or tea provided. Room service is also very limited and you’re expected to carry your own bags. It is a 20 min walk from the old town with no direct buses. It would be ideal if they introduced a shuttle system, albeit at a low frequency. The highlight is the main palace with the beautiful rooms where breakfast is served. Staff is attentive and warm. The spread was the same but delicious. The library is stunning but it was re-arranged for a seminar and so couldn’t be enjoyed. The property itself is beautiful - we woke up to snow covered exteriors which was dreamlike. They arranged for mulled wine around the fireplace that was lovely. Would recommend!

Having always loved the Sound of Music, this was the ultimate experience for my 30th!|This breathtaking property and surroundings were just the tip of the iceberg of our stay. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and even gifted a chocolate cake for my birthday celebration! Such wonderful hospitality! ||The hotel is about a 30 minute walk into the town, or you can jump on the number 11 bus and change to the 25 which takes you straight into Salzburg! We did the walk the first day, then gave into the cold afterwards; the buses are bang on time every time!

We visited this place just for breakfast. Location: 10/10 Service: 9/10 Food: 5/10 – The breakfast was quite basic and disappointing. There were no fruits at the buffet, the scrambled eggs tasted kind of weird, but the coffee was good. I think there are better places in Salzburg if you want to enjoy a higher-quality breakfast especially at that price point.

We stayed in early September, when the crowds were small and the weather was quite nice. The hotel was magnificent, the grounds well kept - the perennial gardens in back would be great in spring and summer, the breakfast was quite good. Here are some pointers for guests: 1) Reserve/Stay in one of the suites in the main palace. 2) At Breakfast, fill your plate at the buffet and go into the small adjacent room off the main dining room. 3) Rent a car so you can explore the wonderful region of Salzburg and other dining options, using the hotel as a base. 4) You can walk into the center of Salzburg via a pedestrian passage from Am Rainberg, up the hill. 5) Be sure to explore the Palace grounds - they are extensive - along the Lake. If you are looking to be pampered with every amenity, with service at your beck and call, go to Paris or London. This visit was a return to Salzburg after studying music at the Mozarteum years ago, for four years. Plan carefully, and you will be rewarded with an exceptional experience.

The hotel was beautiful and the lake amazing. The photo opportunities are endless. There are bicycles which we borrowed to drive around the lake and town. The rooms are a good size. The staff allowed us to store our luggage when we arrived prior to check in. There were apples and water put out for guests to enjoy. As others have mentioned the breakfast is spectacular and there are so many options. The library and chapel were fun to photograph. The staff is top notch! Wanted to note that our hairdryer was not working in the room and they did not have another available so we needed to use the fitness center to dry our hair. It wasn’t a deal breaker but was inconvenient. Great hotel!

(Stayed 26-27 Oct 2024) My friend and I were extremely lucky to stay at this hotel for our short stay in Salzburg. Even if the Sound of Music isn't your favorite movie, you will still love this place. The palace and grounds are absolutely beautiful, and we were encouraged to explore it all by the very helpful and hospitable hotel staff. If you stay here, take the time to do so, as everything is so picturesque and also historic. The lakeside and gardens are breathtaking. Breakfast was over-the-top amazing and delicious - sweets, eggs, sausages, waffles, jams, cereals, even baked beans for the British tourists, and I got a fancy coffee made to order. As for the location, we took an Uber into town when we were wearing our fancy shoes, but the next morning I walked to the main square, which took about half an hour, and though it was a hilly trek, the views were amazing the whole way. There are also bikes you can borrow, which would have been an awesome way to circumnavigate the lake, if we had had the time.

Yelp
The hotel of my childhood dreams. My fav movie growing up was Sound of Music so ofc I planned my trip around their availability From the neighboring lake, mountain backdrop, to the gorgeous castle interior, our time here was absolutely magical. To fully enjoy, I recommend staying for two nights. The rooms (at the Meierhof) themselves are very modern and spacious & Mountain view is a must. Most of the "fun" happens in the Schloss, including the breakfast and you can probs take the entire day to explore all the salons in the premise. Lots of hidden spaces too The best part tho is the complete calm you get to experience from being away from the city. We loved sitting around idle, taking walks around the lake to feed the ducks, and riding the hotel bikes around town The perfect unwind. Very inner peace inducing. The only downside is the lack of nearby eats? There's one restaurant within walking distance that is a must - Weiher Wirt, but they're closed on Mondays. Transportation into Salzburg is a bit difficult so make sure to prepare a ride back!

Yelp
If you're trying to see the library it is a tourist trap. We called ahead of time to confirm the library was open for viewing and were told yes. Once you arrive you are told you have to book a room for the night to see a library. Online there are vouchers that you can purchase to visit the grounds for $50. We called back after leaving to see if we could use the vouchers and were told they don't have vouchers even though they are online and for sale. Then we're told we would need to have breakfast at the hotel to use vouchers. Tip for travelers - do not attempt to see the library and if you are staying here just know it is not close to the city center.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, with a lot of history, many amazing rooms, beautiful grounds, and of course, the location for several scenes from "The Sound of Music." The only drawback is that it is a little bit out of the way. Not a problem with Uber, of course, but otherwise, to get to the old town's center, it's a 20-plus minute walk that includes a brief but steep climb, or a 40-minute walk without climbing -- both scenic -- or a convenient bus ride that requires a connection to town center if you want to see how the locals live (but without a connection to the train station). Will be on my list of top choices for Salzburg, for sure.

Yelp
This hotel is just beautiful. To be surrounded by history, and walking upon the Sound of Music filming grounds is surreal and magical. The library will make you feel like Belle in her own private palace library. One highlight was the breakfast in the grand ballroom, where we were served like royalty by manager Jonathan. He spoke English and took great care of us, giving us tips for Salzburg, as well as future travel. He was amazing!!!

Yelp
Surprised that no one has reviewed this place yet. Okay, so I guess I'll start. First of all, if you stay here, either for pleasure or for an education seminar, be prepared for a once in a lifetime experience. If you're going for a seminar, you will attend lectures by esteemed educators in their perspective fields. These educators have taught in some of the best schools all over the world, but it wasn't their impressive resumes that made it extraordinary. No, it was about the subjects they spoke about. Incredible stuff. For the non-student, paying guests are most certainly welcome. When I was there, there was a small German insurance seminar taking place. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in what used to be a castle. The film "The Sound of Music" was filmed adjacent to the grounds of the Schloss Leopoldskron. Famous theater director Max Reinhardt owned the place, but while he was in Hollywood, the Nazis confiscated the palace because it was "Jewish property". After WWII the palace was returned to Reinhardt's family. Currently the palace is owned by the Salzburg Global Seminar. If you're a student, and you win a scholarship to attend one of the seminars, consider yourself blessed. The food itself is delish. No joke, it's really that good. Plus you can most definitely taste the difference between American over-processed food vs. natural well made Austrian fare. In addition, you have a choice between free red or white wine during dinner. May I suggest the most awesome apple juice? As for the hotel staff, they are very hospitable, as they speak both German and English. If you need postcard mailed, a cab called, or a wake-up call, they will do it with no questions asked. As for one of the best parts...the Beer Steuben. Otherwise known as beer drinking paradise for alcohol indulging students. There's always a steady supply of Stiegl beer. If you hate loud drunk students, then DO NOT come to the Schloss Leopoldskron during the Salzburg Global Seminar, which happens during spring break. You have been warned. Oh, and if you are a future ISP seminar student, keep in mind that the place goes by the honor system. In other words, you pay at the end of your stay as opposed to per drink. Just remember to be honest when paying your tab. I shall end this review by commenting on the wonderful view of the Austrian mountains which could be seen outside the windows. Beautiful view indeed. Yelp
The most incredible experience of my life. Seriously a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is absolutely unforgettable. I was incredibly blessed enough to be able to spend 8 or 9 days here, all expenses paid courtesy of my college. I was sent here along with a few other classmates for the Global Citizenship Program. I learned so much and experienced so much beauty - sometimes I still think it was a dream. But it was real, and boy, do I wish I could go back. Let's start with the palace. What an extraordinary, captivating, and historical palace. I was here in February and arrived the day after a big snowstorm, so everything was covered in glistening, clean, white snow! The palace is covered in beautiful, gold details. The lake in the back (what a beautiful lake) was frozen and the swans paddled around in the small parts that weren't frozen. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and there are gorgeous statues all around. The first two days I was there, the days were very cloudy. But on day three, the sun came out, and - WOW - there's a huge, beautiful mountain, Untersberg, right behind the palace! I had never felt this sensation but... it literally took my breath away. The beauty was overwhelming - I even shed a tear. It made for the most perfect view out of my room, out of the lecture rooms, dining rooms, any room! The palace got even more gorgeous and it couldn't have been any more perfect. The food was fantastic. I'm a very picky eater and I was very, very afraid of my first experience eating in Europe. But to my surprise, the food was extraordinary. There were so many meals and all of them had an incredible variety of food, so that everyone could find something they liked (loved). Between meals, snacks, fruits, tea, and coffee came out. It was so lovely. As for the lectures - it was an honor to be learning from some of the most esteemed educators from around the world. Their level of intelligence and insight was beyond belief. They were all so approachable and truly made an effort to get to know us all. Absolutely incredible. The staff was just awesome! Such nice and fun people. The hotel staff were also great - very attentive and helpful. Best experience ever. I'm so glad that I took a leap of faith and went on this journey. It was one I'll never forget - and if you go, I guarantee you won't either. (I've posted lots of pics - keep in mind, the photos don't even do any justice. It's even more beautiful than any photo can capture.)

Yelp
Was in Salzburg specifically to take the Sound of Music tour; so being able to stay at this hotel was such a great experience! Many of the scenes from the movie were filmed on this property (both inside & out) When we arrived; we were lucky enough to be upgraded. Our room was in the portion of the hotel that has the library. Absolutely stunning decor and a secret passageway through a bookcase. We had champagne and fresh fruit waiting for us in our room. Our toiletries were sooo nice! The bathroom had heated floors and towel racks. Just a beautiful property with TONS of history and character! No restaurant on property, other than a small coffee shop with pastries. They do serve breakfast in the large formal dining room (buffet style) My only issue is the location. I like being able to walk out of my hotel and stroll to nearby activities. There is plenty to do and see, but you definitely need to call an Uber.

Yelp
This place is home to me. The food is amazing. The rooms are amazing. The views, landscapes, the everything! The best things in life are simple. This place is simply the best! #GCP67

Yelp
We loved everything about this place. Arriving was painless and we were shown to our rooms...the MR room and an adjoining suite. It was beyond perfection. We were traveling with a child and I had requested a basket of candies, instead of the bottle of wine. What a surprise and delight to find the room exquisite and the candies plentiful. A kids dream come true. We had one small issue while staying and it was resolved. We loved the location and proximity to some fun and delicious restaurants. The weather was beautiful and we could sit out by the lake. Food wise: The breakfast room is magnificent. What a setting. The breakfast served in the morning is limited, but the selection and quality local and fresh. Tomatoes were soooooo sweet. Eggs fresh as could be. The Schloss is filled with interesting rooms and secret passage ways. The library is out of a movie. It's best to have a car to get around, as the hotel is a bit out of the way from town. We took a bus one night back and it was simple. If you can swing it and want to delight in some old world charm, a la Sound of Music...run, don't walk. It was a privilege to stay in this gem.
