I had wanted to stay here at Schloss Leopoldskron for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the suite overlooking the lake but the room they provided was decent. It was in the second building and upstairs in what used to be the attic space. Overall, the hotel is a bit rundown but still quite elegant. The breakfast was outstanding and the wait staff were always so helpful and attentive. It is a bit pricey but to me - worth it. Everything in old town is walkable depending on your level of fitness. I am 60 and made it to where I was going in half the time Google Maps said. If you go at Christmas 🎄- know that a lot of shops are closed for the holidays. Make reservations for Christmas dinner a couple months in advance or you won't get in.

We are huge Sound of Music fans , especially our son. As a birthday surprise, his grandparents treated him to a stay at this special hotel. We were on a mother son trip to Vienna, Budapest and Salzburg and this was the highlight.||Having the iconic garden and lake to ourselves was incredible. Our room was very comfortable with a large bathroom and comfy twin beds. There were pastries at reception as well as tea.||The highlight was the most incredible breakfast ever , in the Palace. It was breathtaking and so special. We sat in the music room and at the end of the breakfast they brought a scrumptious birthday cake for our son. It was unexpected and delightful.||I cannot tell how memorable this place was for those who enjoy The Sound of Music.

We had an amazing experience at Schloss this past weekend. From the minute we walked in we had excellent service. The staff was friendly, helpful and attended to our needs. The property itself is absolutely amazing w breathtaking views of beautiful autumn colours, lake w geese, and mountains. My wife, being a huge Sound of Music fan, was equally thrilled w the property and walked around to the areas of filming w such happiness knowing the actors once stood there. Each morning they offer a full breakfast buffet and have bar/cafe on site which we loved. The room that the breakfast is held in is absolutely beautiful w historic art work and architecture . Our room was great, comfortable bed, no a/c but being autumn it's nice and cool w window opened or closed and the room was huge. Something I thought would be an issue was the possibility of fans of the movie being all over the property but it is fully gated and only guests of the hotel can be on property so that was a big plus. Overall, we had an amazing stay and will definitely be back again in the future. The worst part of our experience...having to leave so soon! We're booking in for a week next time!! 😁

We stayed at the beautiful Palace from 28-31 December 2024. It was such a special, beautiful and unforgettable experience! The whole Palace was so beautiful! In the Breakfast room we had a unique experience. Everything was so Royal! Beautiful paintings and decorations on the walls, beautiful curtains and so many beautiful details and excellent Breakfast! The view of the lake from the windows of the Breakfast room was unique! It was wonderful to stay at the Palace where our favorite and loved movie 'The Sound of Music' was filmed! We wandered around all the rooms of the Palace, and to the beautiful library! The staff were all very polite and helpful. I plan to visit again Leopoldskron Palace!|Elena|Cyprus

This was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Make sure you allow plenty of time to enjoy the breakfast in the palace building, it is included in the room price and was one of our favorite experiences during my wife and I’s visit to Salzburg! The room was simple, clean, and comfortable. But the true value of staying here is the amazing breakfast and the breathtaking scenery. It’s no wonder that part of “The Sound of Music” was filmed here. There is a convenient bus stop nearby.

The staff were very kind and attentive, and the room was cozy and well-equipped. The property is quiet with plenty of space, as it sits away from the city center. The view from the garden is excellent. You can also purchase the Salzburg Card directly at the front desk. I highly recommend the breakfast — the food is delicious and the space itself is stunning. I would gladly stay here again when visiting Salzburg.

We only had the breakfast buffet and then toured the public areas. You cannot beat the location. I would have liked to have more than an hour and 15 minutes to eat and relax. They kicked us out exactly at 10. If I had known, I would have booked an earlier time slot. The food was excellent. The views are amazing. Expensive but worth it.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 days while in Salzburg. When we booked, we thought it would be fun and silly to stay at the "Sound of Music" Palace, but when we arrived, we were delighted by everything the palace had to offer. The room was very comfortable, good-sized and decorated with a fun movie-themed decor and memorabilia. All the ladies we interacted with at reception were very friendly and helpful, answering questions, offering directions and recommendations. We had dessert and drinks in the bar one evening and the bartenders were absolutely hilarious and very friendly and the drinks and cake were delicious. There is a huge variety of breakfast offerings (included in the price) in a gorgeous room in the palace itself. The lake, gardens and surrounding area with its view of the Alps is absolutely breathtaking and so peaceful. I would have loved to have spent an entire week here. I can't recommend them strongly enough!

Yelp
The hotel of my childhood dreams. My fav movie growing up was Sound of Music so ofc I planned my trip around their availability From the neighboring lake, mountain backdrop, to the gorgeous castle interior, our time here was absolutely magical. To fully enjoy, I recommend staying for two nights. The rooms (at the Meierhof) themselves are very modern and spacious & Mountain view is a must. Most of the "fun" happens in the Schloss, including the breakfast and you can probs take the entire day to explore all the salons in the premise. Lots of hidden spaces too The best part tho is the complete calm you get to experience from being away from the city. We loved sitting around idle, taking walks around the lake to feed the ducks, and riding the hotel bikes around town The perfect unwind. Very inner peace inducing. The only downside is the lack of nearby eats? There's one restaurant within walking distance that is a must - Weiher Wirt, but they're closed on Mondays. Transportation into Salzburg is a bit difficult so make sure to prepare a ride back!

Yelp
If you're trying to see the library it is a tourist trap. We called ahead of time to confirm the library was open for viewing and were told yes. Once you arrive you are told you have to book a room for the night to see a library. Online there are vouchers that you can purchase to visit the grounds for $50. We called back after leaving to see if we could use the vouchers and were told they don't have vouchers even though they are online and for sale. Then we're told we would need to have breakfast at the hotel to use vouchers. Tip for travelers - do not attempt to see the library and if you are staying here just know it is not close to the city center.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, with a lot of history, many amazing rooms, beautiful grounds, and of course, the location for several scenes from "The Sound of Music." The only drawback is that it is a little bit out of the way. Not a problem with Uber, of course, but otherwise, to get to the old town's center, it's a 20-plus minute walk that includes a brief but steep climb, or a 40-minute walk without climbing -- both scenic -- or a convenient bus ride that requires a connection to town center if you want to see how the locals live (but without a connection to the train station). Will be on my list of top choices for Salzburg, for sure.

Yelp
This hotel is just beautiful. To be surrounded by history, and walking upon the Sound of Music filming grounds is surreal and magical. The library will make you feel like Belle in her own private palace library. One highlight was the breakfast in the grand ballroom, where we were served like royalty by manager Jonathan. He spoke English and took great care of us, giving us tips for Salzburg, as well as future travel. He was amazing!!!

Yelp
Surprised that no one has reviewed this place yet. Okay, so I guess I'll start. First of all, if you stay here, either for pleasure or for an education seminar, be prepared for a once in a lifetime experience. If you're going for a seminar, you will attend lectures by esteemed educators in their perspective fields. These educators have taught in some of the best schools all over the world, but it wasn't their impressive resumes that made it extraordinary. No, it was about the subjects they spoke about. Incredible stuff. For the non-student, paying guests are most certainly welcome. When I was there, there was a small German insurance seminar taking place. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in what used to be a castle. The film "The Sound of Music" was filmed adjacent to the grounds of the Schloss Leopoldskron. Famous theater director Max Reinhardt owned the place, but while he was in Hollywood, the Nazis confiscated the palace because it was "Jewish property". After WWII the palace was returned to Reinhardt's family. Currently the palace is owned by the Salzburg Global Seminar. If you're a student, and you win a scholarship to attend one of the seminars, consider yourself blessed. The food itself is delish. No joke, it's really that good. Plus you can most definitely taste the difference between American over-processed food vs. natural well made Austrian fare. In addition, you have a choice between free red or white wine during dinner. May I suggest the most awesome apple juice? As for the hotel staff, they are very hospitable, as they speak both German and English. If you need postcard mailed, a cab called, or a wake-up call, they will do it with no questions asked. As for one of the best parts...the Beer Steuben. Otherwise known as beer drinking paradise for alcohol indulging students. There's always a steady supply of Stiegl beer. If you hate loud drunk students, then DO NOT come to the Schloss Leopoldskron during the Salzburg Global Seminar, which happens during spring break. You have been warned. Oh, and if you are a future ISP seminar student, keep in mind that the place goes by the honor system. In other words, you pay at the end of your stay as opposed to per drink. Just remember to be honest when paying your tab. I shall end this review by commenting on the wonderful view of the Austrian mountains which could be seen outside the windows. Beautiful view indeed. Yelp
The most incredible experience of my life. Seriously a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is absolutely unforgettable. I was incredibly blessed enough to be able to spend 8 or 9 days here, all expenses paid courtesy of my college. I was sent here along with a few other classmates for the Global Citizenship Program. I learned so much and experienced so much beauty - sometimes I still think it was a dream. But it was real, and boy, do I wish I could go back. Let's start with the palace. What an extraordinary, captivating, and historical palace. I was here in February and arrived the day after a big snowstorm, so everything was covered in glistening, clean, white snow! The palace is covered in beautiful, gold details. The lake in the back (what a beautiful lake) was frozen and the swans paddled around in the small parts that weren't frozen. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and there are gorgeous statues all around. The first two days I was there, the days were very cloudy. But on day three, the sun came out, and - WOW - there's a huge, beautiful mountain, Untersberg, right behind the palace! I had never felt this sensation but... it literally took my breath away. The beauty was overwhelming - I even shed a tear. It made for the most perfect view out of my room, out of the lecture rooms, dining rooms, any room! The palace got even more gorgeous and it couldn't have been any more perfect. The food was fantastic. I'm a very picky eater and I was very, very afraid of my first experience eating in Europe. But to my surprise, the food was extraordinary. There were so many meals and all of them had an incredible variety of food, so that everyone could find something they liked (loved). Between meals, snacks, fruits, tea, and coffee came out. It was so lovely. As for the lectures - it was an honor to be learning from some of the most esteemed educators from around the world. Their level of intelligence and insight was beyond belief. They were all so approachable and truly made an effort to get to know us all. Absolutely incredible. The staff was just awesome! Such nice and fun people. The hotel staff were also great - very attentive and helpful. Best experience ever. I'm so glad that I took a leap of faith and went on this journey. It was one I'll never forget - and if you go, I guarantee you won't either. (I've posted lots of pics - keep in mind, the photos don't even do any justice. It's even more beautiful than any photo can capture.)

Yelp
Was in Salzburg specifically to take the Sound of Music tour; so being able to stay at this hotel was such a great experience! Many of the scenes from the movie were filmed on this property (both inside & out) When we arrived; we were lucky enough to be upgraded. Our room was in the portion of the hotel that has the library. Absolutely stunning decor and a secret passageway through a bookcase. We had champagne and fresh fruit waiting for us in our room. Our toiletries were sooo nice! The bathroom had heated floors and towel racks. Just a beautiful property with TONS of history and character! No restaurant on property, other than a small coffee shop with pastries. They do serve breakfast in the large formal dining room (buffet style) My only issue is the location. I like being able to walk out of my hotel and stroll to nearby activities. There is plenty to do and see, but you definitely need to call an Uber.

Yelp
We loved everything about this place. Arriving was painless and we were shown to our rooms...the MR room and an adjoining suite. It was beyond perfection. We were traveling with a child and I had requested a basket of candies, instead of the bottle of wine. What a surprise and delight to find the room exquisite and the candies plentiful. A kids dream come true. We had one small issue while staying and it was resolved. We loved the location and proximity to some fun and delicious restaurants. The weather was beautiful and we could sit out by the lake. Food wise: The breakfast room is magnificent. What a setting. The breakfast served in the morning is limited, but the selection and quality local and fresh. Tomatoes were soooooo sweet. Eggs fresh as could be. The Schloss is filled with interesting rooms and secret passage ways. The library is out of a movie. It's best to have a car to get around, as the hotel is a bit out of the way from town. We took a bus one night back and it was simple. If you can swing it and want to delight in some old world charm, a la Sound of Music...run, don't walk. It was a privilege to stay in this gem.
