Overall service was very very poor. Our bedroom was located directly above the bins, and throughout our stay we could hear bottles being emptied into them, which was quite disruptive. The TV in the room was extremely slow, and the remote control didn’t work at all. On a positive note, lunch in the bar was really tasty. However, our dinner experience was very disappointing. We were seated at 8:30pm and placed our order around 8:40pm. After waiting 45 minutes for our starter, we were then told that the main dish we had chosen was unavailable. It was frustrating that this wasn’t communicated at the time of ordering. To make matters worse, when we received the bill, we noticed an additional £80 charge for the original main we never received. The attention to detail was extremely poor. We also spoke to the couple beside us, who mentioned they had waited an hour and a half for their meal. Overall, although the rooms were nice, the service let the hotel down significantly. Based on our experience, I wouldn’t rate it any higher than a three-star hotel.

Had a brilliant stay in one of the cottages at Schloss a few weekends ago. From arrival (with a lovely tour from Philip) to check out we experienced excellent, friendly service, in particular from the staff in the tea room and at the spa. We had afternoon tea and were given a lovely surprise of fizz to mark our special occasion. The spa was brilliant, they are aware there can be a problem with it being very busy, but it was clearly explained in our booking confirmation for the cottage that spa access was separate and wasn't guaranteed. On speaking to staff, this is something they are working on,however we had no problem by planning our arrival at spa quickly after check in, and not reserving beds when we didn't plan to use them. The saunas and plunge pool were amazing. The cottage was so comfortable and spotless, and we loved our breakfast from the shop. A fantastic stay in beautiful surroundings.

The hotel is beautiful, our room was fully equipped. The spa is great. The treatments were great. The golf course is great. The staff are friendly and polite. The breakfast room and it's staff are great. But there is just something missing to justify the cost! ||The bar seemed too busy to deliver the level of service expected although saying that, it was slow even at quieter times. The hotel was busy BUT a hotel of this standing should be able to deliver even when busy.||Food was average.||We spent a lot of money on food and drink - so ultimately paid quite a lot in service charges that are automatically added.||Would we go back? Yes, maybe for the hotel, spa and golf but we would get a taxi into Kelso for food and drinks in the evenings. ||It cost us around £670 pp for our 2 night stay, some things were worth the money and some things were not. ||This is a confusing review and honestly, we do feel a bit confused ourselves!||Overall - slightly disappointed.

The facilities, room and service are all excellent and i wish i could have given the hotel 5 stars. We arrived on a Friday for 2 nights and everything was superb fri lunchtime to Sat Lunchtime. The problems with the stay started from that point. The hotels facilities are unable to cope with the number of guests staying on a Saturday night. We visited the Spa on Sat afternoon and was told there are no beds or even chairs available and we were to come back at 6pm. I understand that there is a capacity in the Spa but when you are paying close to £400 a night, and staying in the castle itself, you would expect to be accommodated in the Spa, its one of the main reasons for staying at the hotel. I suspect the multiple large Hen groups staying in the Cottages contributed to the problem. Breakfast on Sunday AM was very chaotic, queues at the entrance and at each station. Coffee arrived 20mins after eating. Again, for £400 per night i don't think being seating on a table with a queue of people standing around you waiting for eggs is appropriate. The two nights were like night and day, Fri was excellent, sat was a bit of a disaster. I would have no problem recommending the hotel for a weekday stay, but would 100% recommend staying away from the place on a weekend. More needs to be done ensure consistancy of expereince thoughout the weekend.

Fantastic few days at Schloss. So relaxing. Great room as always, so comfortable. ||The spa was super and had an amazing massage with Lisa. ||We ate at Sunlaws and had a great evening. Food was wonderful. Great service from Tain, talked us through each course and the paired wines. Loved it. ||Really enjoyed the whisky bar and the service from Carrie-Anne, outstanding. Tried some new whisky, great experience. ||Breakfast service was excellent too. Loved the haggis and the porridge! ||We’ll be back, thanks again for a wonderful break.

I travel for work as a lone female and this is one of the best locations and hotels I have stayed in. Attentive staff that are genuinely happy to help you. Molten brown toiletries, the whole place smells divine. The spa is tranquil, not over crowded and spotlessly clean with all amenities stocked up. I stayed in room 210, with heated floors, a heated towel radiator - and a rain shower. In room climate control fully functional as I like my room warm. The Spa is the place to be to relax, rewind and be at peace. Pool is lovely and warm. Highly recommend and have stayed here twice.

An amazing 2 days spent with my husband as a treat for his 60th birthday. Staff are amazing, polite and so helpful. Rooms are beautiful. Ambience is just lovely. Spa is lush and my massage by Rachel was excellent. We booked the claypigeon shooting experience. The expertise of Eric was fantastic. He is such a great instructor.

My husband and I stayed for two nights for my birthday and it was incredible. Staff were so lovely and attentive, the quality of the hotel was unreal. Felt so relaxed, the food was all incredible and the spa was very relaxing. Only negative was the 4 hour limit per day on the spa - it is understandable but we could have spent the entire day in the spa.

Yelp
I was married here in 2011, August. What a dream come true. The staff was welcoming to all of our guests and made us all feel like royalty. The welcoming day we had a piper and great little tea and sandwiches set up. Each room was unique and the building was a dream, like a castle. We played croquette on the lawn and danced in the fountain. The wedding took place in the green house, as to avoid the sprinkling outside. They had two crystal champagne flutes made with our names and wedding date for us to keep and handed them to us as we walked out of the ceremony, what a lovely gesture and a treasure we will keep forever. Had spa services done the morning of and the best meal of my life on my wedding day. I wish I had more time to explore the grounds, but maybe on my anniversary I will head back for more country side adventures. thank you to all!

Yelp
We had a great time here at a friends wedding in June. The Hotel staff was very helpful, the meals were excellent and still included Sottish standards like Haggis and Black Pudding along with the finer innovations in fresh and local one expects in this level of cuisine in todays travel market. We did and I highly recommend a shooting lesson with Alistair and his fine assistant (name escaping, sorry) on their Sporting Clays course. We also did a fly fishing lesson on the pond that was a delight and improved my skills. You really feel like you have had an adventure on a Scottish Estate. The Estate has water on the Tweed that is World Class for Salmon in season as well as other shooting standard in their respective seasons. The stone work and interior architecture and art are everything you could want as was the wedding.
