Yelp
Across the street from the famous Schmidt's German restaurant is another area icon called Schmidt's Fudge Haus and gift shoppe , where one can humor the inner child that resides in all of us !
A variety of sinful treats guaranteed to tempt the sweet tooth of even the heartiest of dieters , include a bountiful array of smooth , rich and creamy chocolates with various fillings , chocolate covered toffees , caramels , pralines , haystacks , penuche , Butter creams , truffles , imported boxed Bavarian candies and a retro selection of 1950s candies that we all once enjoyed as kids . Did I mention that they also have some select baked goods available too ?
The creme de la Creme however is the handcrafted Belgian fudge that is offered in a staggering variety of flavors , some including nuts and dried fruits .
Yes ... it's made on the premises , and yes classes are available .
As if that were not enough , the shoppe also contains numerous gift offerings , such as paintings , beer goblets , candles , wooden nutcrackers , Wall plaques, and other assorted Knick knacks , which is rather surprising considering the relatively compact size of the shop itself .
A gentle warning ....One can easily lose track of time while perusing the contents of This multi faceted museum of confection , so instead of having hubby wait for you in a hot car , being slowly toasted by summers heat , be kind , invite him in to shop with you ! ( and don't be too surprised if he leaves with a beer stein )
I need not add , but will , that this shop has been visited by Martha Stewart , and a few other TV show hosts . This fact alone can attest to the quality of the handcrafted items purveyed here .
One advisory is appropriate .....the delicate chocolates offered here can start melting rather quickly in the heat of summer , so one had best plan their purchases accordingly or have a cooler in which to transport them home .
Of course ....Winter visits pose no problem !
Personally , the wife , grandkids and I spent a delightful hour ooh-ing and ah-ing over all that there is to see .... and I think you will too !
Enjoy !
My rating : a solid 5 points !
