"Next door to the Sausage Haus is Schmidt’s Fudge Haus, which Tim Dick, a partner with the Schmidt family, has owned for 24 years. The shop, tucked away on a brick-lined street, specializes in fudge and, for the trail, offers rich peanut butter and chocolate fudge. It’s made the traditional way, in copper kettles using fresh cream, Belgian cocoa, and a creamy peanut butter base. “We’ve started merging our peanut butter fudge with Buckeyes, and it’s been a hit,” Dick says. In addition to fudge, Schmidt’s offers milk chocolate and peanut butter football-shaped candies, and a variation on the classic turtle candy, known as the Schmurtle. The Schmurtle is made with homemade butter caramel infused with roasted salted pecans, followed by a layer of chocolate, a scoop of peanut butter, and then another layer of chocolate." - Wendy Pramik

Google
Awesome cute chocolate shop. Seems small, but actually isn't that small considering it's only a chocolate shop. Every type of chocolate you can think! Some packaged, but mostly fresh and local. Definitely worth checking out even if you don't buy anything because it's really cute and smells awesome. Disclaimer though, you may find yourself spending a lot of money because not only is it good stuff, the prices are pretty high. However that shouldn't stop you from going. I wouldn't say that they are overpriced, they are just more expensive than regular stuff, but you are paying for what you get, and also supporting a small business.

Google
Wow, don’t come in here hungry or with a sweet tooth! Tons of great chocolates and also snacks from Germany. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Great place to visit in the German Village!

Google
Fudge Haus is an adorable shop with unique candies and confections, most made on site. It’s the perfect place to pick up Christmas gifts for friends and relatives at home. Very friendly staff stand ready to serve you.

Google
Such a cute little place! It’s great to buy gifts for chocolate lovers. It’s a little pricey but the chocolate is high quality and rich. A good stop for an after meal sweet at Schmidt’s sausage haus.

Google
Phil was an excellent server and knew all the specifics about their chocolate products. The chocolate covered almonds and pecan fudge were excellent and I am going back now for the Christmas wrapped gift boxes with assorted chocolate.

Google
Spectacular Shoppe and such great customer service. The treats are really amazing. Worth the trip even if you aren't dining at Schmidt's. Typically filled with shoppers we actually made it in just as they were closing. They were sweet to tell us to take our time and I didn't want to overstay with taking pics so we grabbed some fudge and paid quickly. Suffice to say it was so delicious I have no picture to share- maybe next time I'll get more so I can post pictures. A great way to spend time waiting - I will actually head back to shop here again very soon.

Was in town for a conference in March, stopped in and had a wonderful conversation about the chocolates and fudge. I ended up buying a Bavarian village that unfortunately when I opened up the box this Christmas wasn’t working and missing the battery pack coverage. Tim was very nice and worked with troubleshooting and ordering replacement parts through the manufacturer which unfortunately is out of stock. He was willing to refund or send a new one and I was so appreciative of his good will since I really was outside a reasonable return period and just wanted to see if I could order replacement parts through the manufacturer. We ended up ending the call with an agreement that I would take it apart and see if I could fix it, and if not we would go along with trying to determine how to get a replacement. I took it apart and was able to fix it, a wire most have popped over during shipping so a super easy fix. I called Tim back this evening not able to wait until tomorrow just to let him know it was fixed and all was good. He still insists on sending me a box of chocolate just for my inconvenience. I couldn’t wait to revisit this store, and I definitely will be visiting again! Love supporting a small business and these owners have a beautiful heart!

Yelp
Surely I've reviewed this. Been a few times over the years. I don't think it was here when I lived in the Village? But it is an essential part of any visit to Schmidt's, and even if you don't go to the restaurant you should stop in here (and the gift shop across the street.) There is better chocolate in town, maybe, but not much better, and here they have a large selection of other candies (and fudge, of course.) Prices are a bit high, but it's good stuff, and some is hard to find elsewhere. Service is friendly and fast, it's in a nice old building full of goodies but nicely arranged, and there is occasionally street parking at off times (don't bother with the restaurant lot on most days.)

Ryan A.

Yelp
The folks here were very friendly and helpful in our decision-making process, and the store has plenty of options from house-made treats in the case (pay by weight) to pre-packaged food and gift options. We didn't get to see the fudge being made live during our visit, but it's great that you can actually see the process when they're actively making it. I'd definitely make another stop if we're ever in the area again - great experience overall!

Heather L.

Yelp
This is a must stop in German village for the best fudge! No really, they were voted one of the top homemade fudge shops in the US! There is also a bunch of other traditional candy shop chocolates and items to try, but if you get just one thing, its the fudge. On this visit I got the peanut butter cookies and cream fudge and it did not disappoint. There is also some gift items too. The staff was really nice and helpful. It is a little pricey, but that is to be expected from a local small business.

Ana B.

Yelp
In German Village, we stopped by Schmidt's Fudge Haus for a bit of something sweet! There's so much chocolate here! And it's all made in house! We actually saw a man making the fudge. He had just completed mixing a very large bowl of chocolatey goodness, then he poured it into a flat dish. All the chocoholics had their eyes on this as they wondered how they could get their hands on this bowl for a good lick! They also have a variety of imported German chocolate and candies. You're not going to find your typical American chocolate such as m&ms and Hershey's. Instead you might find some nostalgic chocolate that you haven't seen in many years. I got some chocolate turtles on my visit to Schmidt's Fudge Haus. These are made of dark chocolate, and the walnuts are placed to look like legs and the head of a turtle. This is very quality chocolate. You could taste the richness of the dark chocolate in each bite. If you aren't into dark chocolate there are so many other varieties to choose from. If you're in the German Village please stop by Schmidt's Fudge Haus for some tasty chocolate.

Mark E.

Yelp
Cute place with plenty of offerings. If you're in the area, visit here for some sweet treats!

Cynthia F.

Yelp
Great gift shop Chocolatés, fudge, candies-- all looked fresh Great little garden behind the store, with benches There's chocolate as well as maple walnut and other flavors of fudge I am craving their PENUCHE, which was creamier than any fudge I've ever had. Maple walnut penuche tastes like maple walnut fudge, only a looser, creamier consistency. And they use only a few wholesome ingredients!

Scott S.

Yelp
A cute little shop in the German Village. The chocolatier was actively making chocolate as we browsed the store. We ordered a slab of Chocolate Fudge with Walnuts. This was probably the best fudge I've ever had (I hope my mom never reads this). I'm not lying y'all. This stuff just melts in your mouth! We also got the obligatory Buckeyes which we learned are peanut butter and confectioners' sugar, dipped in chocolate. Kind of like a Reese's cup, but in ball form, and about 1000 times better. Its name comes from the fact that it resembles a nut from the Ohio Buckeye tree. OK, so you've heard how much I liked the fudge...but we talked about those Buckeyes the entire time we were in Columbus! That should tell you something.

Candie G.

Yelp
Cute little chocolate place in German village! The chocolate turtles were big and perfectly sweet and chocolatey. The price per pound was decent as well. A man comes out and was making chocolate for us to see. Great place to buy gifts for friends!

Jared W.

Yelp
Schmidt's Fudge Haus is a great place to pick up a variety of chocolate (or other) treats. My wife and I sampled various items in our gluttony: truffles, chocolate peanut butter cups, fudge, chocolate covered s'mores... you get the picture. Almost everything we tried was excellent and all were objectively good - anything we didn't love was more due to our subjective tastes. Prices are reasonable, and it's cool to get to see the chocolate and fudge makers who are frequently active as you peruse the shop.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Delicious, all of it. Made in house. When I walked in I thought there was a tour going on, but no that was just Tim giving amazing customer service to everyone inside. All the history, knowledge and insight on the candy, fudge or just plain chocolate it was really a good time.

Rolen J.

Yelp
Crazy cool place and atmosphere. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The chocolates and candy are honestly overwhelming. I tried so many things and liked them all so much I couldn't decide which one to buy! 100% would recommend to anyone looking for a sweet treat!

Jose C.

Yelp
Nice little store that is located in German Village. For being very small, they have a huge variety of candies and a great staff I came here for their Buckeyes and they were really tasty. It basically tastes like a peanut butter cup but without the "commercial" taste to it. I will definitely be returning next time I'm in Columbus.

Joeseph M.

Yelp
The butter pecan fudge was not good :( too sweet and not solid enough. would love to see a coconut fudge as well. The buckeyes were good.

Auntie J.

Yelp
Friendly staff and a variety of unique options. They have sweets and also collectibles. You can watch them creating the homemade fudge.

Josh B.

Yelp
Watched fudge being made. Lots of individual chocolates and German souvenirs. Would recommend.

Eric B.

Yelp
Stopped by the fudge Haus on the way to the sausage Haus... First visit here to this fudge and sweets emporium tucked in the cute German village neighborhood. The inside is on the small side; they do have an area where they seem to make fudge on site though they weren't making any at the time we dropped by. The staff seemed friendly and helpful and let everyone browse to their heart's content. They have some unique gifts and German cookies and sweets as well like a great variety of Haribo gummi bears and other cookies I haven't seen outside of Germany. They have a case with assorted chocolates as well as a good sized section of pre-wrapped candy you can buy by weight with each piece individually wrapped in plastic. They have gift boxes ready to go of many of their chocolate items as well. We tried several of the bulk items like mocha cream and maple cream as well as a dark chocolate covered Oreo. The chocolate was very rich and high quality though the flavors of the fillings were quite mild. It was a bit hard to tell which flavor it was, but the plastic wrap around each individual chocolate is labeled. The oreo was the star here. Delicious dark chocolate (but not too dark). Next time we might stick to the chocolates in the case versus the wrapped bulk items. Overall this was very good chocolate with some cool and unique items hard to find outside Germany.

Crystal K.

Yelp
We placed our order at the restaurant and ran over to check out the fudge shop while waiting on our food. I read another review that the buckeyes were really good. They did not disappoint!!! My son at his whole 6 pack of buckeyes after his meal and wanted to go back for more. He will definitely be getting a stocking full of goodies from here this Christmas

Lard Belly E.

Yelp
Came in after eating at Schmidt's sausage haus because I wanted to bring Buckeye candy home. Buckeye is a thing here, which is a really hard nut that even squirrels won't eat. The candy is delicious. It's peanut butter balls covered in chocolate. Because I bought so many boxes the guy behind the counter gave me an individual piece. So nice. There are other neat souvenirs from baby bibs to coasters. Would buy candy from again. It's a hit with the family.

Peijean T.

Yelp
The best shop in German Village! I go here every time I'm in Columbus. They have a great selection of German and European imported small gifts, candy and novelties, including a beer steins, magnets, and a nice selection of unique ceramic salt and pepper shakers that you just have to see in person (like kissing dachshunds and other cute pairs). They have a great selection of old time candies, including Cow Tales, which you probably remember from your childhood and Necco wafers. But the best stuff are the candies -- chocolates, fudge and caramels -- that they make in house. The peanut butter cups (huge and $3 each) are shockingly good, but the number one thing I come here for are the Buckeyes -- peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate. They are 75 cents each here and the freshest I've had in Columbus. You can buy them in little gift boxes for 6 for $5. I also love the caramels, dipped in chocolate or just plain. They also have chocolate bars they make with the words "It's a Girl/Boy" and "Congratulations" etc on them, which make a nice gift.

Nelson B.

Yelp
This place has some great chocolates and fudge! They're made in house and delicious. I personally liked the Buckeyes and the Schmidt turtle which is a turtle with peanut butter inside the chocolate.

Matthew B.

Yelp
meh. cute, if you're in the neighborhood. i wouldn't purchase more than a couple of pieces of chocolate. See's is way better. sorry.

lauren e.

Yelp
They have A great variety! Fudge, Easter treats galore since that's the next holiday, single chocolates, traditional imported German treats, and a variety of GF & dairy-free chocolates.

Anna K.

Yelp
-fantastic caramels, lovely buckeye, friendly salesman, reasonable prices. Had lots of authentic German snacks

Donna D.

Yelp
Shop here for the best local candy selection and the nicest people on planet earth! After a rather lengthy walk to get buckeye candy to bring home I was lost, tired, and just tattered! The owner went above and beyond, taking me to my dwelling for the next few days, and assured I was safe and sound! Make sure you stop in to see this great treasure of a store and score some great candy and/or gifts and support these incredible people! Thank you so much for your incredible thoughtfulness and wonderful souvenirs!

Siobhan D.

Yelp
There are other things for sale in this fudge shop but I only bought & ate a ton of chocolate so that is all I can comment on! I bought two of the hand-made large souvenir bars and a bag of assorted hand-made milk chocolate and white chocolate individually wrapped pieces. Everything is so delicious. I regret not buying more. This shop is in a really cute neighborhood of Columbus, perfect for walking around for an hour and checking out a few other cute shops. Brick-lined streets. The staff was enthusiastic and helpful.

brooke b.

Yelp
James was the sweetest employee and was very helpful. The fudge and chocolate was amazing.

Abdallah J.

Yelp
chocolates were yummy, prices weren't too exorbitant (still pricey tho) and very very sweet employees and atmosphere

Sherri G.

Yelp
Small little candy shop. Great shopping before, after or while waiting to eat at Schmidt's sausage house. They have a fudge making station that wasn't being utilized while we were there but I'm sure would be a great attraction for the kids. The rocky road fudge was more marshmallow and walnuts than fudge but it was fresh and good. The coconut haystacks had a nice flavor and the Buckeyes were a nice familiar Ohio treat. Enjoyed the little store which also offered a nice little selection of German food and gift items.

Matthew B.

Yelp
Very good German food! Sausage sample is great if you want to try different types. All the sides are good. I recommend the potato cakes with apple sauce. And don't go home without a cream puff!

John L.

Yelp
Across the street from the famous Schmidt's German restaurant is another area icon called Schmidt's Fudge Haus and gift shoppe , where one can humor the inner child that resides in all of us ! A variety of sinful treats guaranteed to tempt the sweet tooth of even the heartiest of dieters , include a bountiful array of smooth , rich and creamy chocolates with various fillings , chocolate covered toffees , caramels , pralines , haystacks , penuche , Butter creams , truffles , imported boxed Bavarian candies and a retro selection of 1950s candies that we all once enjoyed as kids . Did I mention that they also have some select baked goods available too ? The creme de la Creme however is the handcrafted Belgian fudge that is offered in a staggering variety of flavors , some including nuts and dried fruits . Yes ... it's made on the premises , and yes classes are available . As if that were not enough , the shoppe also contains numerous gift offerings , such as paintings , beer goblets , candles , wooden nutcrackers , Wall plaques, and other assorted Knick knacks , which is rather surprising considering the relatively compact size of the shop itself . A gentle warning ....One can easily lose track of time while perusing the contents of This multi faceted museum of confection , so instead of having hubby wait for you in a hot car , being slowly toasted by summers heat , be kind , invite him in to shop with you ! ( and don't be too surprised if he leaves with a beer stein ) I need not add , but will , that this shop has been visited by Martha Stewart , and a few other TV show hosts . This fact alone can attest to the quality of the handcrafted items purveyed here . One advisory is appropriate .....the delicate chocolates offered here can start melting rather quickly in the heat of summer , so one had best plan their purchases accordingly or have a cooler in which to transport them home . Of course ....Winter visits pose no problem ! Personally , the wife , grandkids and I spent a delightful hour ooh-ing and ah-ing over all that there is to see .... and I think you will too ! Enjoy ! My rating : a solid 5 points !

Yelp
A sausage Haus and a fudge Haus right next door to each other??? Yes, right in German village! Ambiance Cute exterior and interior full of both delicious edibles and some unique German souvenirs and rare items. Prepackaged cookies and snacks as well as their made on site (I think) chocolates and fudges. They have some of their chocolates pre packaged and ready to go as gift items as well. They had a fudge making station inside the store too but weren't using it. Service Friendly and helpful staff that were knowledgeable about their products. Food Tried a few of their bulk chocolates which come individually wrapped in plastic as well as a dark chocolate Oreo. The chocolates were very good with subtle flavor in the fillings (caramel, mocha) which didn't overwhelm the taste of the surrounding dark chocolate. The Oreo was extra good! Wonderful enrobing in dark chocolate with the crunch of the Oreo. Their dark chocolate is just right. Not too dark and bitter. Mojo Try this chocolate! Grab some to go, then eat at the sausage Haus, then enjoy the chocolate after! Just a suggestion... :)

Lucindy O.

Yelp
My husband bought me these large mutant sized caramels (literally one must weigh 1/2 lb) and it was all decadent caramel with the lightest coating of milk chocolate. I've had Godiva and European caramels - this tops them all

Elaine D.

Yelp
All things fudge in this cute little chocolate shop in the German Village of Gahanna. Hard to decide, but went with the "Bahama Mama" -- a slab of chocolate fudge with cayenne. What's not to like for a lover of heat. Stop by and grab yourself a treat -- after you eat at Schmidt's Sausage Haus, a few steps away.

Christina C.

Yelp
Smells like chocolate when you walk in.. yummy!! The owner guy was really funny, gave us recommendations on local places. They had a good selection of chocolates, knickknacks, and jams. Had tons of things to try. I'd definitely go back again.

Jessica H.

Yelp
I don't like chocolate. Wait, let me qualify. I don't like cheap waxy chocolate that we so frequently find lining supermarket checkouts. Tim's (that's the owner) chocolate is absolutely phenomenal and he is just the sweetest guy in the world! I highly rec his home made sea salt caramels. They are like no other - I promise you. Fudge is amazing and there's a fun and interesting selection of imported candy including Haribo/gummies! These chocolates make for great gifts and ship superbly to clients, family and friends. The shop is getting national awards and attention for its confections, too!

Mike G.

Yelp
Come here to satisfy your sweet tooth. Fudge, candy, caramels? They've got all that and more. Their pecan caramels ( and everything else ) tend to be pricey but are worth it when you are feeling the need to get a sugar high.. It's a great place to get some retro candy too.....hello Skybars! They've also got some touristy Columbus stuff along with the requisite Buckeye souvenirs. Guess where it's at? It's right next to Schmidt's Restaurant.....now how convenient is that? Unique food and some shopping to boot. Good place to stop in to get something special for that sweet tooth you know you have!

Kat V.

Yelp
Delicious fudge! We didn't do anything other than get fudge here, since the wait for the restaurant was so long, but I think we got the best part. The fudge was delicious. Not as big a selection as I expected, but very good!

Carla D.

Yelp
As if giant cream puffs weren't good enough, then there was Schmidt's Fudge Haus. It's handmade chocolates, Schmidt's way. You have classics like chocolate covered marshmallows and chocolate covered pretzels and then there are originals like Schmurtles and the Tressel Truffles. The Schmurtles are nuts stuck together with gooey caramel and a dollop of chocolate on top, all in a form that resembles a turtle a little bit. A portion of any purchase of a Tressel Truffle goes to the German Village Society in honor of Jim Tressel's late mother. Then of course you have the homemade fudge which you can watch being made on site. You have classic fudge flavors like chocolate or chocolate peanut butter. Or there's something slightly different, like penuche or Belgian chocolate cherry amaretto (contains alcohol). The homemade fare is good, but point down for it not all being their stuff (left side of store). The candy makers are pretty personable, too.

Marissa C.

Yelp
What a delightfully decadent place! If you have a sweet tooth, the Fudge Haus is a place to check out. They make a variety of their own candies - besides the fudge in their name, they also have treats like chocolate dipped pretzels, giant chocolate peanut butter cups, and, of course, homemade buckeyes. The rest of the store also represents the fun combo of candy, Columbus, and German heritage. There is a wide variety of other types of candies, including some from Germany, a selection of Buckeye and Columbus souvenirs, and German trinkets, which are fun to browse... if you can tear yourself away from the fudge to look, that is!

Robert M.

Yelp
Worth visiting for the fresh made candy. Also the store has some imported from Germany Christmas items.

Adrienne H.

Yelp
Schmidt's Fudge Haus - German Village - Columbus, OH is delicious and amazing customer service and a great holiday and everyday gift. Our children live in German Town and we live in Chicago! It was Thanksgiving and we wanted to celebrate with them...even if from a distance. I googled and found Schmidt's Fudge Haus...how lucky we were. I spoke to William, and also Mark and Tim, the owners. So helpful putting the gift together and taking the time to review what I wanted on the tray. They put together a great variety from bark to milk and dark chocolates to peanut butter bulls eyes, nothing was missing, except all the chocolate by the end of the evening!!!! We saw a picture and it was perfect. Thank you Schmidt's for getting it to the party at the last minute.

Savana L.

Yelp
this was a great place to buy souvenirs from our trip!! the staff was unbelievably kind, we got to watch the fudge being made and it was absolutely delicious. thank y'all for such a great end to our trip :)

Lila P.

Yelp
A cute store full of snacks. After seeing the chocolate treats being made in front us, we had to try some. It was a great balance because the chocolate wasn't overly sweet with the nuts Some standouts were the dark almond bark and almond turtles.

Jerusha K.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Columbus, we stop here. Ever for the smallest thing. It's exciting to talk to the staff, see the old time candies, and watch the man make fudge!

Breanna T.

Yelp
amazing fudge and sweets! owners were very kind and helpful. definitely recommend for a nice stop in German village!

Debbie P.

Yelp
I promise, if you walk in to browse while waiting for your table and they are making fudge, you will have to have amazing will power to resist buying some! It smelled wonderful! There are a lot of German items for sale in the shop, including cookies and treats, but some other items that were fun to look at. I found the prices to be rather high, but there aren't a lot of places to get some German candies around town. In the chocolates area, they also have individually wrapped chocolates, including sugar-free. If you get sugar-free, it will be best to have a separate bag because they are not priced the same. We got the Belgian Chocolate Fudge (really good...I recommend it!) and the Butter Cream Fudge (which reminds me a little of the center of an opera cream candy.) Fun little place to stop in!

John B.

Yelp
This fudge is good. I mean, really, it's German fudge, what more do you need to know? The Fudge Haus is located right next door to the Sausage Haus, which could be either the best or worst placement in history. They tease you before you go to pack yourself full of meat then get you on the way out. It's a cute little shop will all kinds of confections. There are both pre-packaged and bulk items available. Their peanut butter cups are large and flippin' amazing. The orange peels are also pretty stellar. If you're going to Schmidt's, don't kid yourself; you know you are going to stop in this fudge shop. I am just here to encourage you.

Lydia B.

Yelp
Schmidt's reminds me of the touristy-yet-homey stores of Olde Mystick Village in Mystic, Connecticut. That reference might be lost on you, but suffice to say that this is a Good Thing. Schmidt's Fudge Haus is kinda small and feels very family-owned, and is simply a great little spot that feels very German Village. Sure, they sell fudge of course, but it's all the other candy that really make this store worth a visit. It ranges from "penny" candy to gift boxes and all sorts of things in between. It was damn near enough to make me wish I had a sweet tooth. The staff is eager to help and the entirety of the merchandise can be browsed and pondered over in a matter of minutes. This is a wonderful candy store!

Shawn P.

Yelp
I'll probably be accused of rating this place too highly, but seriously, this is some great chocolate. Great, as in, some of the best I've ever had anywhere, not just in the Columbus area. Basically, I'm addicted to their chocolate covered English toffee. I need to see if I can order it online since I don't live in the area. However, I don't think anything I've tried has been bad here. The chocolate covered Oreos are possibly my second favorite (the white chocolate covered white cookie Oreos are also great.) I'm not a huge fan of gooey caramel stuff, but theirs is good. Chocolate covered pretzels are awesome here. The buckeyes are the best I've ever eaten, including homemade (sorry grandma.) The one thing I haven't bought but should is the fudge. I've never had fudge that tastes as good as the samples I've had here. The best way to describe it is to compare it to the most flavorful, moist brownie that you've ever eaten. It's that good, and I'm not a huge fan of fudge. The service here is great, the people working behind the counter are always friendly and quick. This is probably my favorite place to get chocolate in the entire United States.
