We stayed at this hotel because our 5 month old baby girl is a patient at the WVU Childrens hospital, getting open heart surgery for her vsd. We are young parents, and this has already been a tough week to have our first child have to go through this. My husband is a smoker, and walked outside often to smoke. He would never smoke inside, and doesn't even smoke in our car or our own home. When he's finished smoking, he will put the cigarette butt in his pockets and throw them away when he finds a trash can. So he doesn't litter. Well, this hotel decided to charge us $300 additional dollars, a smoking fee, because they "have proof that he was smoking in the room." He called to try and dispute this, because he did not, in fact, smoke in the room, and would never do that. My parents had also stayed with us in the room one night, instead of driving all the way back to their home, which is 2 hours away, after visitng my hospitalized daughter. They, too, do not smoke indoors and always go outside. If management or anyone would look on their cameras, they would see all of them going outside often, so that they can smoke. Yes, they may smell strongly like cigarettes. I personally have told my husband this, and he is aware that the smell can be strong. But he DID NOT smoke inside the hotel, let alone the room. I was with them the entire time we stayed at this hotel. I do not smoke, and would never even allow someone else to do this, not even my immediate family. There are also smoke detectors in the rooms, and they obviously did not go off. We have enough on our plate as is. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD WE EVEN RISK BEING CHARGED EXTRA OR SETTING OFF SMOKE DETECTORS by smoking in the room, when we have enough going on? My baby is sitting in a hospital bed, on floor 6, hooked up to so many tube's and wires, waking up crying and screaming, confused as to why her mommy can't hold her and console her. She is on a pacemaker and was throwing up. Not to mention, my grandmother sits right next door in Ruby Memorial hospital, where she had a stroke the Sunday we headed up here, and now lays there with a possible surgery to come, that may leave her in a vegetable state. I CANT EVEN MAKE THIS SHIT UP RIGHT NOW. Even if he wanted to smoke in that room, the fan in the bathroom didn't even work. He would've atleast been smart about it, so I'm just so confused as to what this proof is, that apparently can't even be given. Cigarette butt's may have been thrown away in the trash. Which we bagged up all of our trash nicely for housekeeping and put in one spot. I usually strip the beds and lay all the sheets in the bed, for housekeeping, when I stay at a hotel. And I usually do the same with bath towels and washcloths. We never leave a mess whenever we stay at a hotel. I've worked the front desk at a hotel, and I know exactly how they operate, and i know that housekeepers can come down to front desk and tell them to charge the card on file for whatever room because it smelled like smoke. And sometimes they'd have found cigarettes. You know, that would be totally understandable. But the room we stayed in didn't smell like smoke. I have a sensitive sense of smell, and complain about it often, to my husband. But that room did not smell like smoke. And there were no ashes anywhere. Because everyone smoked outside. So, the only "proof" that could be had, is the cigarette butts that were THROWN INTO THE BAGS OF TRASH, and then literally tied up. And you know what's funny, is that when we were leaving, I asked my husband if he'd left housekeeping a tip. When he said no, I turned around and went back inside, scanned the QR code on the paper, and left a 10$ tip for housekeeping. I guess $300 was more like it, for them. And it won't even go to housekeeping. It will go to this outdated, overpriced, 70s looking little motel, where you can hear anyone walking on the street outside yelling. OH AND OUR BABY WAS IN THE ROOM WITH US, SUNDAY NIGHT. I WOULD NEVER LET MY HUSBAND OR HER GRANDPARENTS SMOKE AROUND MY 5 MONTH OLD THATS ABOUT TO GO INTO OPEN HEART SURGERY.
this hotel is NOT EVEN WORTH THE PRICE. A quality inn, best Western, or even a super 8 would be a better choice for you. It was way overpriced, even for Morgantown. We paid over 400$ for 2 nights stay. We stayed at a different hotel 2 nights later, (THE RESIDENCE INN across from the childrens hospital and within walking distance. Which, by the way, had a whole kitchen, full sized refrigerator, microwave, countertop stove, and even a dishwasher., couch, an actual closet and it was only 180$ and way more updated, clean, and professional. It was very nice, And it was closer to the children's hospital.)
The parking garage at this hotel is outdated and questionable af. The elevators are also rickety and scary. The room was decent, and our first thought was that the room was nice. The big tvs in the room were nice, and I thought it was cute that there was a welcome message on them when we'd walked i
