I started my pottery journey in July last year with the Pottery Fundamentals Course. I am glad i chose to take this in-depth immersive introduction as i gained a much greater understanding of the craft and techniques. The 24-hours of introduction to clay bodies (reclaimed, terracotta, stoneware,PB103), techniques (pinching, shaping, coiling, stretching, trimming, slabs, moulds, carving) and glazes (underglazing, dipping, pouring, swivel, brushing) were meditative and an escape from my stress of work!
It sparked an unexpected passion, I have since been improving my practice with the open studio hours, which gives me access to the collective knowledge and experience of SOCA's Pottery Community and advice from Elizabeth.
I love the unpretentious, authentic feel at SOCA - everyone is encouraged to find their own style and expression, and to appreciate the uniqueness of a handbuilt work.
Charges are competitive and the open studio charge includes use of the studio clays and glazes, and all tools and equipment onsite. Firing is by weight.
