The hotel was quiet, comfortable and clean, and I love this area. It’s quieter than being right in the middle of things, but near enough to walk or take the bus. The front desk staff were sweet and helpful although I was disappointed that there was no luggage cart (the reception staff did help me though - very kindly). My lower floor room was a bit dark and I’d ask for one on the ground floor or higher in future.||The breakfast staff could perhaps use some better training. My mother wasn’t given a menu for several minutes, nor offered coffee or tea - and she was one of only two people in the breakfast room. I arrived half an hour later and was offered coffee, but no menu. When my mom finally asked one of the guys to give me a menu, instead of saying “of course” or maybe even apologizing - he said “oh, I thought the other guy gave her one.” ||Similarly in the restaurant the night before, our waitress blamed a delay in delivering our meals on the chef, when she’d clearly forgotten about us. (She offered us dessert menus before she had delivered our meals!) The food was excellent but the service neglectful and I wouldn’t go back because of that. Her odd statements like “your happiness is my joy” and I managed to have 2 of your desserts removed from the bill” (even though there were 3 of us at the table!) may have stemmed partly from a language issue, but they were off-putting and not what I’d expect from a fine dining experience. ||Overall I would stay here again, but to earn a five star rating they will need to train their staff better on true Irish hospitality.
