Schoone Oordt Country House, Swellendam, Overberg, South Africa - Explore & Book

"Swellendam's a popular first stop when travelling along the Garden Route. Just 2 hours from Cape Town, you find yourself driving through this historic town. Gaze up to the Langeberg Mountains, then let your eyes fall on Schoone Oordt Country House. This beautifully restored Victorian homestead has guest rooms in a row of terraced guest cottages, as well as a separate Honeymoon Suite and two Family Rooms. The setting is charming, amidst the rose garden, fountain and surrounding oak trees. Homemade biscuits in your room and the daily afternoon tea make you feel at home. Sleep in traditional comfort, but climb the steps to the main house's conservatory for a bright and airy room where you can enjoy a glass of chilled wine and a delicious meal. Breakfasts are renowned, but dinners are certainly making a name for themselves too. Wake up to find your car sparkling clean, then head off to explore - there's enough nearby to keep you busy for a few days. Return to lounge by the pool, take a swim to cool off, head to the on-site restaurant for dinner, then start all over again. Highs The comfortable and elegant rooms have immaculate bedding and attention to detail Swellendam is a good stopover if you're driving the Garden Route between Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay The charming team lend a very personal touch There's a nice pool area with loungers The food is imaginative, delicious, and served in a beautiful conservatory filled with light and greenery Lows Expect to hear a little traffic noise - but the road running alongside isn't very busy and never bothered us This place is all about relaxing and enjoying your surroundings; if you're looking for buzz and excitement you may want to try elsewhere" - Aidan Forestier-Walker

We had a wonderful stay in this very special place. The honeymoon suite was spacious and super comfortable! We had a fabulous meal in the restaurant and when we returned to our room the stove was lit and hot water bottles were in the bed! Such a treat! Breakfast was a multi- course feast - such high quality and overall the staff and the owner Alison were so friendly and welcoming! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lovely hotel as part of any trip to South Africa! I look forward to returning some day!

A really nice friendly place. Richard and Alison were there to say hello and offer any support needed during my stay. The country house gives a warm comforting feeling. Well renovated and comfortable. Joany was on hand to sort things and again so welcoming.|Restaurant was excellent and food prepared was first class. |A must stay for anyone moving through the garden route. |Thanks to everyone.

We have had our eye on this beautiful spot for ages and finally went for two nights! We took our 9 month baby along. Beautiful old manor house, authentic finishes. Exceptionally welcoming and friendly service. Plunger coffee and (insanely good) rusks in-room to die for! Breakfasts are fresh, a lot, and scrumptious. We also loved the dinner and enjoyed it more than the dinner we had in town at a prestigious restaurant. Crisp white linen. Bath salts and heater made our stay extra comfy. We have a 200 year old heritage home in Cape Town and understand the upkeep is tough and ongoing! Tech not super new but still in working order. Could do with slight interior updates but generally good quality and comfortable. Very baby-friendly!! For a new crawler this spot was perfect as she was able to crawl around on pristine clean floors and staff cheering her on! Wish we booked for a bit longer. Will absolutely be back!

Alison and her staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, attentive, and professional. The property and rooms are warm, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with antiques. Everything was spottles and of high quality. Not only a nice destination for summer days – it is as well perfect for a cozy winter retreat -the fireplaces are lid! The food was delicious, freshly prepared, and served with care - every meal was a treat! Highly recommended.

Our recent stay at Schoone Ordt was fantastic. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the beautifully appointed rooms to the thoughtful touches that made us feel genuinely welcomed If we could have changed just one thing, it would be to extend our visit beyond a single night!! We recommend staying here for anyone planning a trip to Swellendam.

A relaxing stay in a historical home that's full of old world charm. Alison and team are so welcoming and helpful and it felt as if our every need was attended to with warmth and friendliness. The rooms are cosy and well-appointed, the food (breakfast and the hotel's superb dinner offering) was sublime and the scenery – even in midwinter – was so beautiful. We felt as if our two-day stay lingered in the most pleasurable manner – truly a recharge for mind, body and appetite!

We stayed at Schoone Oordt on the last night of a short road trip through the Western Cape. This beautiful country house is such a treat - with spacious, charmingly furnished rooms overlooking the large gardens with fountains, Khoi pond, and large pool with loungers. It's within easy walking distance of Swellendam's Historic Mile, has a cosy little bar and fabulous conservatory restaurant. I loved it. Will definitely go back, and stay longer next time!

I recently had to find accommodation for a friend who was travelling back to Capetown from PE. Fortunately I came across this superb property. Living abroad I thought this would create many challenges, quite the opposite, Alison handled the situation brilliantly. My friend said her stay was superb, supper was served in the room with a roaring fire. The room was perfect and breakfast the following morning she tells me was sublime. I cannot praise this hotel enough and highly recommend it.
