Google
This bakery makes amazing pastries and cake! For our wedding, it was surprisingly difficult to find wedding cake that actually tastes good, so I figured I would go with a bakery I already trusted. Scialo Brothers made us a beautiful cake for our wedding day and delivered it to our venue in Newport! The pricing was also the most reasonable we found. We got many compliments on the cake for weeks after the wedding. Thank you for making our special day extra sweet!

The cannoli was simply put, chef kisses. Imagine everything you thought a perfect cannoli taste and you got it.

This place is an authentic Italian bakery, it’s like a Time Capsule , the Apple Pie we bought was like Nona made it. I will definitely stop in every time I’m in Providence. The staff was very friendly as well. An all around Five star experience.

Google
Glad this authentic bakery has survived these unprecedented times it’s always nice to browse the delights they craft here. I picked out the lemon cheesecake and date bars along with cinnamon and raspberry twists impeccable quality and craftsmanship.

Google
The cake was a 5th birthday show stopper!!! Not only did the cake look amazing, it tasted amazing. Everyone we interacted with (from design to picking up) was polite and helpful. We won’t use anywhere else now.

Google
Not my first trip to Scialo and won’t be my last! Never disappoints! My favorites are their maple walnut roll (seasonal), carrot cake, and apple turnovers! Their cookies are to die for too! My husband and I love their chocolate chip cookies and macaroons! A must try if your in the area.

Google
I have yet to try the cake but I just need to let it be known for such a beautiful little bakery, you guys have such rude people working for you guys. I ordered a cannoli cake with “scorpio baddie” written on it bc why not? I dont usually like my birthdays but this year i wanted to be different but never would I though i’d be talked about (like i couldn’t hear them) because of my suggestion written on the cake. Just no customer service AT ALL. very flat personality, almost like she hates her job. Never coming here again.

Google
Absolutely the most amazing cannoli I have ever eaten! The creamy ricotta with the most delightful hint of lemon!

Tim S.

Yelp
Smells are free, but the pastries are a bit pricey. Very good and lots of Italian sweets. Build and fill your own cannolis.

Gorette H.

Yelp
Heavenly little shop in the heart of federal hill. We stopped in for some fresh baked bread and couldn't resist a few little sweat treats. They were so good!

Kerrie D.

Yelp
So...overall I LOVE Scialo Bros, they have wonderful cakes and Italian pastries AND they have a small parking lot, which is a HUGE deal considering their location on Atwell's ave. I love their cannolis and cassata cake and almond bars and, and, and... About a month ago, I ordered a big cake for my son's graduation dinner and asked for the center layer to be cannoli filling. The cake was excellent and everyone loved it, but there was no cannoli filling in the middle. I am completely aware that I could have called them and complain, but never did. There was so much going on that weekend and it was an excellent cake, so really, more of a disappointment of note than a criticism.

Johnny N.

Yelp
Great desserts!! Cannolis were so good and not sweet at all! Service was fast, in and out right away!

Yelp
walking down the streets of federal hill, atwells ave has everything you could possibly need when it comes to finding a good place to eat. scialo bros is no different. i originally happened upon this bakery when i was searching for a cannoli. with a name like theirs, i knew it was going to be good but i wasn't prepared for how good it was going to be! spoiler alert, i didn't get a cannoli because it wasn't clear that these were made to order, and i didn't see any in the display case. instead, i ordered a lemon tart at the recommendation of the nice gal who helped me and i tell you what, she did not disappoint! the crust was perfectly buttery and the lemon flavor of the tart was the perfect amount of sour. the crust was slightly soggy at the tip, but i think this was just because all the beautiful flavors were melting out of this absolute goddess of a dessert. the blueberries were a perfect complement to the flavor profile as well. i'm drooling just remembering it! my only reasoning for not giving 5 stars is that there is no menu anywhere online or in store (at least that i could find) and there is nowhere designated by the bakery where you can eat your sweet treats. i ended up finding a place a block or so away where i could eat but i'm not actually sure i was supposed to be eating there lol. the best part of my experience wasn't related to the food or establishment at all, but it has to be documented in my yelp reviews. i was taking the last few bites of my lemon tart when a huge gust of wind blew a nearby umbrella up out of the patio table it was sitting in and was heading RIGHT toward me! lucky for me, an extremely attractive man with an adorable accent walked up at the perfect moment to save me from being impaled. in summary, ask for a cannoli to be freshly made if you want one, but if you're not in the mood for cannoli you'll find some crazy amazing stuff here in any case! thank you scialo bros!

Yelp
I stopped in the bakery on the weekend morning with friends. They all wanted to get cannolis. They were filled fresh to order. They all thought it was delicious. I was looking for something that traveled well home to Connecticut. I found these cute little pies. The customer service was great. She was very helpful and considerate. I purchased a small, blueberry pie, a pecan tart, and was recommended to get the pear tart. Each were $7.50. I tried the blueberry pie and I really liked it. They had tiny blueberries. My husband really liked the pear tart. It has almond paste in it as well. We did not get to eat the pecan tart yet , but Looking forward to eating that tomorrow. I would highly recommend trying the bakery out . They have cakes, Italian pastries, cookies , pies , cupcakes all different things to purchase.

Yelp
The iconic 105-year-old Scialo Brothers Bakery on Federal Hill in Providence that closed in 2020 because of the pandemic was reopened in 2021 after a group of investors decided to keep the bakery's legacy. Owner Carol Gaeta decided to close for good and sell the property in 2020, due to the pandemic. When Carol put the whole place up for sale, she was aware that a new owner could do anything they want with the property. But then, an anonymous group of investors stepped up to purchase for an undisclosed sum, with a couple of conditions: it would remain Scialo's, the ovens must work. Repairs were made. The original recipes handed down through the generations must be used. And that Carol come back, as an employee this time. Carol carries the memory of her father Luigi, from Naples, Italy, who co-founded and ran the place until he passed in 1993, and her then co-operator sister Lois who died in 2020. The pastries, the pies, the breads are the icing on the cake of this Federal Hill institution. You can't go wrong with anything you get...it's well done, delicious and fairly priced.

Christine S.

Yelp
Had the lemon cheesecake which was pretty good! Can't believe I've never been here before. The only thing that threw me off was no crust on the lemon chew cake, it was like a mousse almost but well balanced and not overly sweet. I can't recall the price but I think a slice was $5 or $7. A really good selection to choose from and reasonably priced. Cute little shop that is clean and well ran service wise. Will pay another visit soon.

Yelp
Let's talk about this gem of a bakery on federal hill with the most scrumptious cinnamon ricotta tart. I'm having a hard time putting into words how mind blowing this tart is. I had to take a moment to understand what I was tasting. The fruit tart didn't hold as much of a punch; but that fruit is F.R.E.S.H. Note: No seating available. It's more of a pass by, grab and waltz around federal hill while enjoying your tart (or maybe I'm the only one waltzing)

Yelp
Scialo Bros Bakery in Federal Hill (Providence) Rhode Island ~ is our MUST-Go-To spot EVERY TIME !!! Besides their amazing BAKERY items...their PIZZA is the absolute BEST ~ Light...Delicious...Even 'cold'...It is more of a pastry-type pizza...WELL WORTH THE TRIP !!!

Stefan D.

Yelp
This place is less a bakery and more a piece of history. As someone with roots in the same neighborhood as Scialo's, I may sound biased but you will not find a bakery with a better ambiance. Their butterball cookies are 10/10 would risk getting powdered sugar on my tie on my way to a job interview. Great bread too, this place is running 100+ years for good reason

Bridgette Q.

Yelp
I'm just happy they are open again. I come all the way from Boston for this place and their traditional cheese cake.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
I Bought a tiramisu cake from here and had very high expectations considering the price of it. When I went to go eat it, it was frozen from the middle and barely had and flavor it didn't taste fresh at all. The staff was very friendly but the cake was a 4/10.

Pat F.

Yelp
Definitely not the old Scialos. Owner very rude, prices are sky high. Disappointment to say the least. Pastry still good but not worth the hassle.

Lou C.

Yelp
Bread was good and fresh, the cakes and pastries looked delicious, though we did not try any. Smells great too!

Lainey W.

Yelp
Beautiful location, historical building.. standards have gone down since the place sold to new owners while prices have only gone up. Charging mikes pastry prices for an okay cannoli in providence is abhorrent, they're a boston icon for their fabulous pastries, cannolis etc, you're only known because you paid beaucoup bucks for a historical location. You are not the same, sorry.

Courtney B.

Yelp
The BEST carrot cake I have ever eaten. And I'm not a big fan of carrot cake- it's my husbands favorite. Literally everything is top notch. A must visit if you're in Providence.

D L.

Yelp
We have frequented Scalios for quite a few years and heard they had sold the business, well..it used to be excellent from the echo cakes to pretty much everything in there, we just purchased a zeppole and eclair, just plain stale and no taste, don't mind paying good money for tasteful food, but.. it was extremely expensive, too bad it went downhill, won't return

50 P.

Yelp
New ownership, glad they kept the same standards and quality, love the russian tea cake!

Chrissy C.

Yelp
Absolutely the best tiramisu I've ever tried! I also got the elephant ears and an eclair.... Yum! Yum! yum! I HIGHLY recommend this place!!

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Worst cannoli I ever had. Imagine a stale wonton wrapper with an orange zest but otherwise flavorless whipped filling. The store-bought cannoli dips and cookies are more flavorful. And to charge $5 for that is outrageous!

Brandon L.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries on Federal Hill. Beautiful cakes line the counters of Scialo Bros. They are not short on variety, that is for sure. I've only ever been here for their smaller pastries and desserts, but I have never been disappointed. Scialo makes an excellent cannoli, and the perfect eclair. The cannoli is excelent; a perfect tartness and variety of flavor, with half chocolate chips and half shredded almonds. Beyond those, they have conventional treats like Lemon Bars, Cookies, and a variety of beautifully designed marzipan desserts. They have some divine loaves of bread as well, baked fresh daily. The type of bread with the integrity that is perfect for dipping in pasta sauce, or making bread bowls from. The staff is very, very friendly, and the prices on their smaller pastries are very fair (cannolis are around $5). If you're on The Hill, this is the place to stop for desserts after dinner.

David C.

Yelp
The confections are also the bomb. The spinach bread was AMAZING. Do they have anything bad? I'll have to sample more to find out.

Johnny G.

Yelp
Our daughter visited providence recently with friends so we asked her to pick up Italian pastries while she was there. She found Scialo Bros. Bakery in the Italian neighborhood and brought us home some goodies. The wine cookies were a first for us. It wasn't love at first bite but more of the gradual true long lasting love that comes from eating a perfect crunchy not too sweet coffee dipping sensation. The almond cheesecake was out of this world. The Sfogliatella were good not great in comparison to Arthur avenue in the Bronx but they were solid and I'm nitpicking. Check it out if you are in providence.

Norma P.

Yelp
bought Zeppolle's last night !!!! I was so surprised how bad they were!!! no crème inside and they weren't good!!! so disappointing from Scialos.

K R.

Yelp
This is a higher end bakery with beautiful artistic Italian pastries. We purchased a pear tart, eclair, brownie cheesecake and a raspberry cake. Each piece was so appealing and made to look perfect. Each dessert was flavorful and filling. You get what you pay for and these are great Lori for gifts for those who mean the most.

Hana M.

Yelp
This place was so cute and we tried it on a day when it was ridiculously busy (like, Italian American holiday busy) so maybe it would be different if I went back another time but I just can't picture myself ever going back. We ordered two cannoli. They were piped fresh normally but because it was a holiday, they weren't. That's fine. But the crust didn't give the impression it had ever been crunchy--it was really full of bubbles and kind of fell apart into flakes--and the filling was sickly sweet and had more the texture of whipped cream than ricotta. I'm not sure if this is atypical for them or not, but it was so bad neither my mom nor I finished our cannolis (and I have a huge sweet tooth). I'm a little spoiled too because Hartford had a few amazing Italian bakeries but this was really disappointing. Maybe their other stuff is better but it would be hard to justify going back after such an awful experience. Could someone let me know if this is atypical? Or where you can find a really good fresh piped cannoli? I'm a little amazed by the reviews here...

Diane S.

Yelp
I was visiting from California, but lived in NJ for 22 years & was on the search for real Italian bread. This is it!! So happy. Biscotti is also GREAT.

Lynn S.

Yelp
The bakery selection is to die for here! Now, I am not a sweets fan and don't like very rich desserts but the desserts were to die for and not too sweet for my palette which is my kind of desserts. We got a selection of their cake slices and tried their top three desserts of Jimmy cake, Russian tea (Italian tri-color cake), and carrot cake. I also got their raspberry chocolate torte cake and it was the best torte cake I had ever had, very smooth and deep taste of dark chocolate and raspberry, yum! I also had their raspberry puff pastry which was ok but definitely too much raspberry filling. If only this bakery was closer to home because I would go more often!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
So glad they reopened a go to bakery for us. They are so nice and accommodating. Such a variety and everything is delicious.

Alicia W.

Yelp
Great options for mini pies and cakes! Perfect for events and when you want to try lots of different desserts.

Marilee C.

Yelp
There were hits and misses, but the hits were great and I would definitely go back. Avoid the large cookies wrapped in plastic. They were expensive at $3.50 each, and were really dry and crumbly. Spend your money on something else here. I would get more than one slice of the double chocolate ganache cake. It was the best thing I tasted from them and a good value at $4.25. The location is a small storefront right in the main Federal Hill area. Only one woman on duty handling customers, orders, and the phones. She handled it well, but it's important to have patience.

Yelp
Established in 1916 and inhabiting Providence's historic Federal Hill for over one hundred years it was as part of Christmas Day that Scialo Bros. Bakery was called upon, a catering order plus several added items attesting to Old World technique while staff embodies the sort of customer service that is pleasant yet concise. Built by Luigi Scialo who came to Providence from Pomigliano d'Arco in Italy, and still operated by his daughters to this day, it is immediately upon entering 257 Atwells Avenue that guests are thrust back in time, the scent of Yeast and Vanilla hanging heavy as stocked shelves beckon in all directions of a space that likely looks no different now than it did on opening day. Using family recipes and focused on quality, a refusal to utilize preservatives making Scialo Brothers a 24-hour operation since everything is baked on-site daily, it was after several moments' indecision that items were packaged and purchased, everything done with care and easily surviving twenty minutes drive plus twenty-four hours storage. Employing only one gas oven for the whole store, a recommendation to order early at holidays strongly advised, it was along with Coffee that tasting began with three mixed pounds of Cookies, Macaroons both Chocolate-dipped and plain an early highlight though not to be outshined were Butter Cookies with Sprinkles and delicate Amaretti rounds. Unfortunately not offering scratch-made Sfogliatelle during a season when the labor-intensive process would interfere with high volume, a layered wedge of Carrot Cake and creamy Cheesecake atop dense Chocolate instead standing-in as day-of indulgences, it was for both Breakfast and Dessert that two whole Cakes were cut and served, the famous Ricotta Pie a lot like Flan but with more sweetness while the Rum Cake surrounded by Lady Fingers ate something like Trifle thanks to fresh Fruit, Jam and moisture added by Booze to the Sponge.

M C.

Yelp
After moving from RI to western MA, I really missed Scialo Bros. rum cake. I absolutely love rum cake, but really can't eat the frosting and almonds that normally come with it, and they did an unadorned one for me years ago. This year for my birthday, my boyfriend called and begged for Scialo Bros. to make a plain one again and the woman on the phone flat out refused, stating "we don't do that" and "we can't do that". Thank goodness for perseverance and good customer service; after he emailed the bakery hoping to reach someone else, he was told that they absolutely could do that - he ordered two and he drove three hours to pick them up. It was just as amazing as I had remembered - so buttery and delicious, and absolutely perfect. Thank you Scialo Bros. for helping to make my birthday cake dreams come true!

Uncle C.

Yelp
Been stopping here for a few years when visiting Providence (mainly to get cannoli), but sadly the quality has gone way downhill. They changed their recipe to now include orange zest; the result was a bitter, acidic flavor and the cannoli shell was also chewy and stale - all of which made them almost inedible. When questioned about it, one of the staff was arrogant and condescending in response. There are better options nearby and we will not be going back.

Toni T.

Yelp
A Federal Hill institution for a reason. Lovely pastries, yummy Italian breads sold by the loaf (sliced upon request), and speciality items like Jordan almonds sold from bins behind the counter. It's a tight squeeze in here on a busy day, but the service is quick and generally friendly. All this & a private parking lot - if you're lucky enough to pull in as someone's leaving you can maybe even get a spot.

Steve I.

Yelp
One of the classic bakeries in the Federal Hill Italian neighborhood of Providence. All the classic Italian pastries and a nice assortment of cookies and bread. Go early , some of the goodies sell out by the afternoon. Try the large round Italian bread and use it to make sandwiches with some of the lunch meat you pick up at the many delis on the hill.

Jackie O.

Yelp
Yummy treats. Decent selection. A little pricey (prices are not listed which isn't cool, so you don't know what you're paying for until you've made your choices). But I could only take off a star for the price because it's just delicious. The raspberry linzer bars are so incredible. Tastes just like a raspberry linzer cookie but even better. Worth the trip for those alone. The texture is perfect. Their pies are yummy and you can buy them in smaller versions which is great if you want pie but not an entire one.

Paul C.

Yelp
Hadn't been here in awhile. Quality has gone downhill stop n shop has better pastry. I used to love the products here but since the new owners took over. It's obvious that they've cheapened the baked goods and jacked up the price 4.50 fir a little cupcake that's stale and tastes like crisco instead of butter cream Wtf? It's a shame The original owner would be ashamed to sell this overpriced stuff

Margie S.

Yelp
I walked in today and was so happy I did!! I walked out with 3 boxes of a variety of pastry and pizza strips! The lemon cupcakes were sooo delicious and the lemon mousse was mouth watering delish! They had beautiful cakes for all occasions along with amazing cookies lemon squares . I think I'm addicted to lemon after I tasted the cupcakes filled with lemon and a coconut buttercream frosting . The staff was friendly and helpful. I think this is my new favorite take out bakery! Parking ca be tricky but not impossible since there is parking on the street. Ohh did I tell you that the fruit tarts were wonderful. Beautifully displayed . Try it is my suggestion!

A K.

Yelp
Bought Eclair and Tiramisu. Absolutely yummy! Will have to return here soon... Other things to try are the pies and breads

J C.

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened to this place but I was in there today for the first time since Covid. There was no one behind the counter when I walked in. Several minutes later, two young women emerged in the back room and neither acknowledged me. Then some customers came in and one woman came to the counter to talk to them. Still no acknowledgment of my presence. I ended up leaving in frustration. Will not be returning.

M S.

Yelp
It smelled like mothballs. I couldn't stomach getting anything from there due to the smell, so I walked out. This wasn't a bakery smell, it was like mothballs in an attic. The selection was subpar. Doesn't hold a candle to any of the bakeries in the north end in Boston. Is this the only Italian bakery on federal hill???

Jackie H.

Yelp
The decor inside was so cute! They had tons of classic Italian pastries and desserts, it was so hard to choose! I went for something I'd never seen before with the Zuppa Inglese (English soup) which was a layered sponge cake soaked in rum syrup with strawberry, peaches, and chocolate... I was kind of confused by the mix of flavors. My friend's strawberry shortcake was delicious!

Richard A.

Yelp
Went here on a bus tour. It's a family own that has been passed down through generations. They let us taste various types of cookies. They were also very good. They showed us how they made bread and pastry. I enjoyed the experience.

Claudia D.

Yelp
I came from out of town looking for a great cake for my son's birthday and I found a beautiful and delicious cake at Scialos. Totally Recomendable!

Dan R.

Yelp
The mother lode! Holy cannoli is this place a gem! Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, pies, cheesecakes, torts, eclairs, napoleons, macaroons, cupcakes, formal cakes--OMG the hits just keep coming! We wandered around in a drunken stupor induced by baked goodness everywhere. We walked out with coconut macaroons, chocolate macaroons, almond cupcakes, Almond Joy bars, and biscottis, Every morsel was divine, and I have to say that the decadent Almond Joy bars are "Last Meal" worthy. So make your way to Federal Hill and be prepared to be overwhelmed.

Alexis B.

Yelp
I ordered a cake for my sister in laws baby shower and it came out beautiful. The white almond cake was DELICIOUS, everyone was raving about it.

A K.

Yelp
Overpriced cookies - $45 for prepackaged assorted 1.5 lbs. No cookies available to pick and choose by the pound. Smaller packages of single type of cookies
