"A Secret Path in 'Sconset This breathtaking path on the high bluffs of Siasconset village (a.k.a. 'Sconset) takes you along the dunes and across the back yards of some of the priciest real estate on the island. At times, enjoying the million-dollar views of the gardens and coastline might make you feel like a peeping Tom: Just be respectful and appreciative that one generous resident had the forethought to include a public right of way into the abutting deeds. Near the start of the walk, you’ll see a stone marker indicating the public way. Be mindful of the poison ivy, and note that part of the walk is no longer available because of erosion."

The walk was wonderful. I really enjoyed traveling through this wonderful place. The sound of the ocean and the hydrangeas growing near each house create aesthetic pleasure and relaxation for the soul. incredible nature combined with luxurious houses. I dream that someday I will also have a house in this beautiful place 🫶🏼🤍

Such a fun walk! It was weird because you’re walking in people’s backyards. Really beautiful views of the ocean. A must do activity if you’re on Nantucket!

Nice little walk thru people back yards. The house were very nice and beautiful on the white patio road. Once on the dirt path, the rest are pretty much the same. I would turn around and enjoy the rest of the very small town. Unless, you want to see the lighthouse, then keep going or use the main road to walk faster.

The Sconset bluff walk is by far one of the most beautiful pedestrian paths I've ever been on, but definitely a must-do when on the island of Nantucket! We hiked it today when it was foggy, but have also been on a sunny day and it's just as beautiful.

The Sconset Bluff Walk is a true Nantucket gem. Winding through the backyards of magnificent cliffside mansions, this public footpath offers an unparalleled blend of natural beauty and architectural grandeur. As you meander along, you’re treated to breathtaking sea vistas that seem to stretch endlessly, juxtaposed against the backdrop of some of the island’s most opulent homes. It’s a unique experience, allowing you a peek into the world of luxury while remaining grounded by the raw, scenic beauty of the coast. For those seeking a leisurely walk rich in views and charm, the Sconset Bluff Walk is an absolute must. It’s Nantucket’s scenic beauty and storied elegance rolled into one unforgettable journey.

This walk is a little strange walking through everyone's backyard but is also amazing offering up great views of the ocean, beach an grand cliff side homes. The walk took me about an hour to get from the bus stop to the Lighthouse, taking my time and about the same on the return. I think the bluff walk is a mile and a half one way with another half mile to the Lighthouse. Some people seem to be real engaging with painted shells that interact with jokes and invitations down their stairs while others have "private" signs up. Try to be respectful and appreciate this access to great views!

Read these two articles about this walk: https://newengland.com/travel/massachusetts/sconset-bluff-walk-nantucket-ma/ AND: https://www.nantucket-ma.gov/facilities/facility/details/sconset-bluff-walk-25 One of the best walks in all of Nantucket if you are a house "lookie loo" like me. It starts on the Sconset bridge then eventually winds along the cliff off of the ocean and meanders along public access behind all of these beautiful Sconset homes. The path is only really marked by obvious tracks of those who walked it before you. And you will see others coming the other way as you walk. It is perfectly legal public access, so don't worry. Eventually erosion forces you onto the road, it is pretty clearly marked off and that road to the right leads to the Sankaty Head lighthouse. (another Nantucket gem.) Then we walked the actual road back to Sconset center to see the houses from the other side. Out and back it is about 4 miles total. No real hills to worry about. A beautiful walk, old expensive homes on one side and the ocean on the other!
