Fabulous little ice cream & candy shop! Ice cream is made on site and is delicious. Lots of candy options for those who are dairy free (no dairy-free options for scoops at this time.) don’t miss the chocolate treats on the highest top shelf. Try some of the more interesting flavors like lemon lavender or buttered banana!

Massive line but totally worth the wait. This is not your stereotypical ice shop with regular flavors so do be mindful of that. However, this is the creamiest and BEST ice cream in Edgartown. Another note - A little tough later in the night (after 9pm) because a lot of the flavors were out by the time we got there so come which multiple flavors in mind. HIGHLY recommend the strawberry (it was the real, not syrupy/fake kind). The maple walnut was great with big chunks of walnuts. And the cookies and cream had the most cookies in cream I have ever seen.

During our day trip to Martha’s Vineyard, we looked for an ice cream shop in Edgartown. They had a few to choose from, and we tried Scoop Shack. They had more than just ice creams, but candies, toys, and other souvenirs. It was a nice size shop, but didn’t offer any table or chair, which was a bummer. They had a cute posters on the wall that said “Frozen Green Tea with mint and Honey” and “Frozen Root Beer.” But when I asked about those flavors, the staff told us they don’t make them any more… So, don’t trust the flavors on the side wall… The very colorful menu on the center wall is current, and unless they sold out of some flavors, they are the ones that they actually offer. We got Brown Sugar Banana flavor and Butterbeer flavor ice creams. Banana one was so creamy, almost mushy than creamy, like mashed banana. I really liked it! Butterbeer one was not quite like the ones from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios. This one here had similar flavor to Root Beer, but much more tasty. The staffs were not overly friendly but nice enough. We enjoyed their ice cream, and we were lucky enough to find a bench nearby. Great spot for a very flavorful ice cream!

Kids loved this place with plenty of choices for everyone. The homemade waffle cones were fresh and yummy! Also had other candy options if ice cream isnt your thing. I wish they had frozen yogurt options.

Google
Amazing ice cream. I’m very picky and a bit of a self proclaimed ice cream connoisseur and this place has unique flavors, but the ice cream consistency is perfect. Some of my favorite ice cream in the United States. The brown sugar banana is my favorite and often sold out, which makes me sad. Staff is always soooo friendly, which is hard to find on the vineyard if I’m being honest.

Google
i don’t ever write reviews but that was the worst milkshake i’ve ever had anywhere, coffee flavor-not even close to coffee and so much milk and was so thin like soda not a milkshake

Google
HOSTILE TO FOOD ALLERGIES. Believing that “homemade ice cream” made on the premises was a good bet for telling us wether particular flavors had eggs or nuts we made two attempts here and in both cases, staff was unwilling to be helpful in any way, telling us, in one instance, that they “cross contaminate all the containers anyway so we shouldn’t try to find out ingredients.” Disgraceful. We have often found that one of our party can’t eat at a particular place but have never been met with rudeness. I guess the line out the door means more than being decent humans.

Google
I am so late writing my review but I was at the Scoop Shack last month and had the best ice cream. It was delicious and the ladies who were working behind the counter were so sweet. My sister and I had really appreciated the great customer service we had after a terrible experience at a restaurant that was down the street. When I go back next year I will be making it a mission to get another scoop.

Yelp
Having visited MV basically every summer for the past 14 years, I thought I had already enjoyed the best ice cream available on the island, having been to both Mad Martha's and Ben and Bill's Emporium. Now I know better!!! The flavors at the Scoop Shack are AHHHMAZING! My kiddo enjoyed his peanut butter cookie dough ice cream in a chocolate covered cone, topped with brownie bits. And my husband and I were both positively poetic in our adjectives to describe the transcendence of a simple scoop in a cup of the house's Mexican Hot Chocolate ice cream! The service was as quick and friendly as it could be after dinner and before fireworks on the Fourth of July! All in all, an AWESOME experience.

Yelp
Hands down the best ice cream on Martha's Vineyard. We have been visiting the island for many decades and have tried all the old and new. Service is fast and friendly; favorite flavor is Mexican Hot Chocolate. Cool spoons that turn colors when in contact with the ice cream!

Yelp
Scoop Shack vs Mad Martha. Honestly, put a blindfold on and I think it's tough to tell the difference. Locals might have a fit over this opinion, but both places are reliable and fit the bill for great homemade ice cream. The flavors will differ, and with SS you get the spoon that changes colors, but hey, you can't go wrong with either venue. With SS, the kiddie portion is plenty (see pic), so if your are looking for a modest portion, just go with that size.

Yelp
Wow! This ice cream is incredible. The service was awesome too. They let me try like 50 flavors, sorry to be that annoying person, but there were so many good choices I HAD to sample them. Again, they were so patient and kind. Awesome service. A little pricey, but worth it. I ultimately bought 3 pints (no regrets!) of the carrot cake (I still think about this one), the salted caramel truffle, and the mocha Joe (I don't even drink coffee and I liked this, it's filled with Oreo chunks but not overly sweet). Notable mentions were the heath bar crunch (yum!) and the brown sugar banana (aka bananas foster), I was outvoted otherwise that Heath bar would've been grabbed as well. The ice cream was rich and creamy, deeply flavorful, just dreamy. I was impressed with the texture too. After being in the freezer for several hours (and then 24 hours later) it was never rock hard, it remained easily scoop-able. I imagine that's a signal of the quality. I have no confirmation, but I'm thinking higher fat content and good quality fat so less ice crystals and hardness? Idk and it doesn't matter. The point is this is flavor town & you should check it out. The carrot cake was my favorite. It took me back to thanksgiving and my grandmas famous sweet potato pie. Hope you love it as much as I did. Pro-tip: Go grab a pie from pie chicks & have it with your ice cream!

Yelp
SUMMER ONLY and worth a step in for a selection of the most unique flavors on the island. Some are a bit too creamy for my liking, but always natural and hearty flavor. Creamsicle is a perennial favorite but I have enjoyed others over the years as well. Mint and cookie dough would be right behind. Wish there were more opportunities to get these sweet delights ... but on the other hand, their limited availability helps make every taste count!

Yelp
The Scoop Shack is a creamery that opened in Edgartown, Massachusetts in 2010. It was founded by chef and restaurateur Bryan MacPhail, who also owns Slice of Edgartown Pizzeria and MacPhail's Corner Cafe. MacPhail was trained at the prestigious French Culinary Institute in Manhattan. After earning a good reputation for himself for creating delicious seafood specialties, MacPhail decided to take a shot at ice cream. The small batch ice cream is made fresh in house on a daily basis. They have over 20 different flavors to choose from on any given day. In addition to their regular selection of ice cream, the Scoop Shack also offers frozen yogurt and a large variety of old-fashioned candies. A second location was later launched at the Inn at Old Harbor on Block Island. My family and I visited the Scoop Shack recently when we were on a week-long vacation in Cape Cod. We had taken the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard and were having a day trip. While exploring Edgartown, my wife spotted the ice cream parlor. When she looked in the window, one flavor in particular immediately caught her attention: Butter Beer! My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan and had to try the ice cream! We both ordered cups of Butter Beer, as well as a cup of Vanilla for our son. The ice cream was amazing!!! So much flavor in every bite! We tried some of our son's vanilla too, and it was some of the best vanilla ice cream we ever tasted. We realize that Cape Cod and the Islands are well-known for great ice cream parlors, but the Scoop Shack sets the bar very high. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Ice cream was very creamy and super flavorful, black raspberry was delicious. Ambiance is fun and lively, service was fast despite a long line.

Yelp
Small spot serving ice cream and an assortment of candy ranging from chocolate to taffy. They had all the basic ice cream options and toppings and then a couple that would intrigue anyone like the lemon lavender, grandma's carrot cake or green tea with ginger cookie crumbs. Got a kiddies scoop of the lemon lavender and it was the perfect combo without being overly sour. Cash only. Lines are long but move quickly.

Yelp
Lured in by the delicious smell, I was greeted by the cutest ice cream shop and friendliest employees. Although the line was long the girls moved it along fast. I ordered the half and half (cookie dough and fudge brownie), and as you can tell from the photo couldn't wait until after I took a photo to take a bite. So good!!! The kids scoop was more than enough to leave me satisfied, but I could have easily eaten a triple scoop. Definitely go here!

Yelp
Cute place in the Vineyard. They sell candy and other goodies. There are 3 ice cream shops around the area. This one is across from another ice cream place. The girls who work here were really nice. My daughter wanted chocolate ice cream and she said it was ok. She preferred Mad Martha's Ice cream. All the ice cream places around the area are pretty expensive. Overall, decent ice cream for a hot day!

Yelp
Ice cream was decent. I had cherry garciaparra and salted caramel truffle. Both were good. Service was great, patient, too. This place is cash only and has an atm on site should you need it. There are also lots of good candy if you have a hankering, too (shout out to Sprees!!).

Yelp
Edgartown has plenty of ice cream shop options, but this place stood out. They had many flavors. Of course, they have the most popular ones, but they also have original ones. I loved their lemon lavender. and Butter pecan. They let you taste before you buy and the workers are friendly and patient. Best of all, they are open late so you can get your after dinner sugar fix. They don't have a designated parking lot, but there's a parking lot a short walk away.

Charles S.

Yelp
Was excited about the flavors and base ice cream was decent. Unfortunately, it was all covered in ice crystals. Some of the freezers were left wide open and one bucket was being scooped out of on the counter in the heat. We left and went to mad Martha's instead. Their ice cream is amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
Literally candy land inside! But had three samples of ice cream and had such a hard time deciding which flavor since they were all so tasty and accurate. The ice cream is homemade and the scoops they give are huge. I asked for mine on a sugar cone, but it was too big and a little bit on the softer side so they gave me the scoop with a cone in a cup. It seems like they have special flavors every once in a while, which my friend got (mint green tea with honey and ginger snaps) and it was absolutely delicious. I honestly preferred it to Mad Martha's because I felt like the ice cream flavors came out more and they had a lot more options as well.

Yelp
So many choices for ice cream in Edgartown! I definitely made the right choice! This shop is adorable and cheerful and home to some very high quality ice cream! At my sister's recommendation I had the Green Tea Honey Ginger and it did not disappoint! I could not resist trying a second flavor and went for the lemon lavender which was also a treat! My only regret is that I got the two flavors in a small rather than indulging in a larger size. The sweet employee "warned" me that a double was very big and asked if I would like the smaller size with two flavors. Hmmmm. I am not very big I hope he thought I would be too full rather than that I should not be eating so much ice cream!! How did he know I was gaining weight during my month long vacation???
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Perfectly fine ice cream that doesn't surprise or disappoint. $5.50 for a scoop in a cone, my scoop of campfire smores only had about 4 or 5 mini marshmallows in it. The green tea mint is refreshing but definitely not something I'd get. The inside is cute with salt water taffy, unique ring pop flavors, and other cute confectioneries.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Eco-friendly spoons. Nuff said. Seriously, the flavors are awesome (Lemon Lavender) and the Sea Salt Caramel Truffle my wife had. Ate it at the harbor looking at the boats. Cool vibe, nice old-timey candy available as well. 25 cent taffy too. Definitely less "known" than Mad Martha's in Edgartown but it's legit.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Probably the best ice cream on the island. Kinda hard to find on Dock st. across from the docks, but when you do, it's delicious......ice cream is all handmade with both average run of the mill flavors and a selection of eclectic flavors as well. I had the sea salt caramel truffle, and it was out of this world. Also has a large selection of old fashion penny candy....kids would love this place.
google avatar

Deb G.

Yelp
If I am cashing in on calories it better be worth it and the homemade ice cream here is so creamy and yummy. So many unusual flavor combinations like Mexican Hot Chocolate and My personal favorite Lemon Lavender. Prices are definitely reasonable for " The Vineyard". So Check them out when you are in Edgartown!
google avatar

Faizah C.

Yelp
Homemade ice cream galore and vintage candies abound! Get some! II picked up a salted caramel truffle . My friends had chocolate chip ice cream and cookie dough/salted Carmel truffle ice cream. I thought the prices were decent and the workers were sweet.
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
Stopped here for ice cream with my family. The shop is like a olde time candy shop in the front and an ice cream shop in the back. So many interesting flavors and options. Eco friendly spoons. Service is friendly and helpful. You can taste the flavors before you purchase. Little out of the way from Main Street but worth the stroll while in Edga
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
The scoop about the Scoop is don't delay just say it's a good day for a scream for ice cream!
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
The ice cream not very good. Taste just like any other ice cream from the grocery store. A dollar per topping. 16 bucks for two waffle cones with one scoop and one topping. Could buy 5 cartons for same price. Go somewhere else.
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
Great ice cream, however both times I've been there they have been "out" of a lot of flavors. I wish they had a larger stock of ice cream in the back. Otherwise fun store with lots of old school candy for purchase.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
For plentiful and cheap ice cream, go to Mad Martha's. For ice cream in intriguing flavors, go to the Scoop Shack. Just don't plan on eating any of the saltwater taffy. It's not cheap; a single scoop is $4.50 or so. But the flavors are wonderful and definitely not Kemp's or whatever most other ice cream places are serving. The carrot cake definitely reminds you of carrot cake without being overwhelming on the spices. The coffee had a sharp coffee flavor that will satisfy coffee lovers. One of our party ordered a scoop with hot fudge and it was a great combination. Strawberry, which is hard to fuck up, tasted very fresh and fruity. The sea salt caramel truffle is based on one of the candies they sell, and it was not bad. Lots of chunks of truffles, but hard to detect the sea salt. They also sell candies, but I wouldn't go for it. The saltwater taffy was displayed in barrels, jars, and drawers. The ones in the drawers - along the line of customers - were constantly being raked over by numerous grubby hands. Even though they're packaged in wrappers, it was disgusting to witness. Also, I kept seeing people helping themselves to the taffy. For fuck's sake, if you can afford the ice cream here pay for your fucking taffy. Overall, a great bet for ice cream in Edgartown. Just stay the fuck away from the taffy.
google avatar

Yelp
Here's the scoop (ahem) - this is the place to go for dessert. Ice cream is spot on - delicious. Lots of candy options (eye candy, because it is pleasant to look at, but i am sure it is tasty as well). A nice last stop for the night. Will be back.

Bea A.

Yelp
Overly sweet and not rich. Not an enjoyable treat so not worth the calories. Buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's enjoy the ice cream more and the money you will save.
google avatar

Hilary H.

Yelp
Of all the ice cream spots on Edgartown, The Scoop Shack is where it's at, people -- trust me, you want to go here. Yes, it's pricey. $5.99 for a double-scoop is kinda crazy, especially when you tack on $1.50 for a waffle cone (which you should). However, when you're eating homemade creaminess on the waterfront, it's totally worth it. Totally. They have a great range of flavors, all house-made and all fabulous. Their selection of frozen yogurt is lovely, too -- from berry to original tart, it's the real deal and quite delicious. They also have some of the best salt water taffy I've ever tasted -- $.10 a piece or $6.99 for a whole bag... You do the math, and be sure to get extra pieces of watermelon flavor.
google avatar

Ccocco C.

Yelp
The One Scoop isn't even a full scoop, it's not even as big as a typical kiddie scoop! This place gives the skimpiest scoops on the planet, and at $5 for a One Scoop, don't bother, Mad Martha's is better!
google avatar

Taylor T.

Yelp
This shop has got it figured out! They offer creative ice cream flavors made in small batches every night. I had the coconut macaroon and it was rich and had chunks of coconut macaroons studded throughout. The scoops are huge and you can get a waffle cone made in-house that's either plain or dipped in chocolate. The staff is super friendly. There is a huuuuge selection of salt water taffy in flavors I never even imagined and nostalgic candy (pop rocks, licorice ropes, sour patch kids, etc.). I love the antique display cases, vintage toys, and huge mirror. Everything about this place was happy and fun. I highly recommend stopping here over any of the other ice cream places in Edgartown.

Lauren J.

Yelp
Scoop Shake makes getting fat worth every too tight pair of jeans. Power to the fatties! This is hands down the best ice cream on the island - maybe the universe!?
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
This place is awesome! I had ice cream an hour or so before this one, but the sign in the window for mint green tea ice cream drew me in. Tried that and the carrot cake and got a scoop of each. The homemade ice cream is really yummy and the consistency is better than their competition. Also the staff is really friendly. I can't believe nobody has reviewed this place yet. Not sure when I will be back, but wish there were a shop in my hometown.
google avatar

Anna W.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the ice cream here, at least the cookies and cream and coffee flavors. I wasn't as much of a fan of the soft-serve, unfortunately. Location is convenient, and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Aimee L.

Yelp
Well If you want the best ice cream around, you've found it. And no need to get to two scoops unless you're committed to eating a half a pint. I had honeycomb and it was delicious. I'd definitely recommend skipping dinner and making a meal of it. You're welcome.

K R.

Yelp
Thank God we found The Scoop Shack! It was so good. We accidentally went to Vineyard Scoops our first night. Terrible mistake. Bad ice cream and overpriced. The Scoop Shack was perfection - reasonable prices and AMAZING ice cream. It was the best ice cream I had on the Vineyard - Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Strawberry and Sea Salt Caramel were all life changing. Do yourself a favor and get here pronto!
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
This is the #1 spot for ice cream in Edgertown! All of the flavors are awesome! The employees are so friendly and very generous with their scoops. My kids went most every night we were here and raved about it nightly!

Charlotte B.

Yelp
not very good- go to mad martha's.ice cream was tangy- almost like the milk was spoiled
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Mint green tea ice cream with ginger! Love the unusual flavors and this one didn't disappoint. Cute ice cream shop.

Sara F.

Yelp
So delicious! The flavors are creative and interesting and it's all so tasty. I feel bad even making the comparison, because they're in different leagues, but this is nine million times better than mad martha's or scoops!

Lauren G.

Yelp
Sorry Mad Martha's, Scoop Shack is our new favorite! Their espresso chip is amazing, so is the coconut macaroon. We tried them when the opened in Edgartown last year but couldn't bring ourselves to break the 30 year tradition of Mad Martha's, especially since Scoop Shack was a little pricey, but this year they're only $0.20 more than Mad Martha's and much better so we couldn't resist.

Sharon C.

Yelp
So good. Better than the other options. Good variety and decent candy selection for the kids.

Hannah C.

Yelp
poor customer service, weren't friendly, and ice cream was not fantastic. disappointed.
