"CONTACT Photography Festival - One month of Public Photography Every May, Toronto’s museums, galleries and cafes are transformed into photography exhibitions centred around a unifying theme. Best of all, the exhibitions are free, making this a fun way to explore Toronto’s neighborhoods, whether by bike or via walking. Don’t forget the public installations including the massive mural on the side of MOCCA’s wall. This inspiring festival is one of my favorites in the city and a way to explore more underground venues like the Toronto Image Works or SMASH in the Junction."

I love photography and I love photography festivals and exhibitions. Contact is great - there’s a lot of fantastic work to be seen. Unfortunately the festival has become very big, so it’s difficult to choose. The printed catalogue is great to browse but it’s huge - not something to carry around. I wish there was a smart phone app that contained the details of each exhibition, but importantly, had a map with the ability to highlight exhibitions near where I am.

This weekend my wife and I made a pilgrimage - visiting CONTACT Photography locations on Queen Street West. There was marvelous work by the youth of Parkdale - as well as many impressive exhibits from more established artists. The local venues - who generously provide their wall-space for the art - were all very welcoming and pleased for our interest. I have uploaded a selection of my photographs made during our pilgrimage. Thanks to all who enable this to happen.

They do an amazing job of showcasing a huge range of photography work in really diverse venues. The events are fun to attend but it's equally nice to just slowly check out the various exhibitions while they are on display for the month.

I went there today at 4:30pm and it was closed! Even if it was supposed to be open until 5pm...
