Scottie's

High end fish and chip corner shop just 2 mins walk from Newcastle Beach. Highly impressed by an array of quality seafood meals. Option to sit inside the restaurant, outside on benches or on the grass, or take it away and enjoy a feast with friends on the beach. We over ordered because there was so much choice. Highlight was the soft octopus tentacles which you could just cut with a wooden knife. Pickled onion and tartare sauce were a good complement. Serving could be improved to three or four tentacles. The crunchy coated squid was so soft as well and delicious. Oysters were fresh as was the sashimi with dill. Very refreshing in this summer weather. Fish burger and fish kebab wrap could be improved. A bit pricey for what you get, but possibly the only venue with a wide range of choices.

Scottie’s is hands-down my favourite restaurant in Newcastle. I genuinely find myself there multiple times a weekend (sometimes three!) because it’s just that good. I’ve celebrated four of my birthdays there because it never disappoints. The food is absolutely incredible — always fresh, creative and full of flavour — and the staff are truly beautiful people: warm, friendly and so attentive. Whenever I have friends visiting from overseas or people who are new to Newcastle, Scottie’s is always the first place I take them. It’s the perfect showcase of what makes this city special. If you’re looking for a place that consistently delivers amazing food and an unforgettable experience, Scottie’s is the one. Couldn’t recommend it more.

We stay at Noah's regularly. There is an amazing array of restaurants within walking distance. We have been wanting to come to Scottie's for a while and tonight did not disappoint. The service was attentive and friendly. Staff knew the menu and their suggestions were spot on. The Semillon was a great pair with the share plates. Home made potato scallops, trout, octopus, calamari & pan fried whiting. We could not fault anything. The tiramisu and lemon curd desserts were a nice finish to our meal. Absolutely incredible! Had the Lobster Club and it was honestly perfection on a plate — beautifully balanced flavours, perfectly cooked lobster, and every bite felt like something special. You can tell the chefs really care about quality and detail here. The atmosphere, the service, everything was spot on. I’ll definitely be back again just for that Lobster Club — it’s that good!

So good! Come in time because it might take a while to get a table. If they do, i'm not sure, i'd recommend a reservation. They do allow you to already have a drink on the benches or on the grass, they even left a picknick blanket. Cute restaurant, nice atmosphere and fair pricing for delicious seafood. A must visit when in Newcastle! Big portions too!

A block back from the beach, lovely bright room, coastal vibe, friendly staff and delicious seafood. Just like a mini Sean’s in Bondi but even more relaxed. The best dining we had in Newcastle for a weekend.

Some local friends recommended Scottie’s and we throughly enjoyed our meal from the walk up window - a fish burger, fries and fresh oysters. We would definitely recommend!

Takeaway menu Fish and chips was delicious, batter was slightly greasy but the fish was fresh and firm. The lobster club has a good tang and filled with reasonable amount of mayonaisy lobster salad. Good seating area on a sunny day.

Great location, lovely atmosphere but the food is a touch overpriced and a little tired compared to how it used to be. I don't mind some hot chips and a beer on the grass though

To date...this is my favorite restaurant in Newcastle! It is one block from the beach and the seafood is incredible! We had fresh oysters, a cabbage salad and the most amazing fish and chips! I highly recommend.

Something's fishy (and chippy) here, and I dare say I like it. If you're in need of a gourmet burger and a thick shake or a takeaway fish finger sandwich to eat on the beach, this humble restaurant (complete with a super cute shaded patio) is your spot. A hearty menu of gourmet pub grub and American diner favourites, Scottie's is somewhat of a Newcastle institution - if perhaps in the I'm-too-poor-to-eat-here-regularly-but-I'll-definitely-bring-my-parents-when-they-visit sort of way. The food is beautifully presented on large wooden boards and the service couldn't be sweeter.

Everyone knows Scottie's is THE spot to acquire your beachside fish and chips (and a mean burger) in Newcastle so there's not much more I can tell you that other Yelpers haven't already. But did you know they do a splendiferous beetroot scallop? Forget what you knew of old school potato scallops and give your tastebuds an upgrade. Be warned, these caramely-warm-slightly sweet roasted beets in a light batter are addictive, but when you're this close to the beaches of Newcastle and gorgeous surrounds, who cares if you end up at Scottie's everyday?

Seafood was nice however the chips and wraps don't come with chips and for what you get this is WAY overpriced.

Deceptively up market, a little out of the way, Scotties is a hidden gem to the uninitiated but an institution to the Newcastle locals. I enjoyed a lunch here after a particularly rigorous (if not overly skillful) beach volleyball game. The outdoor area is a beautiful place to sit on a sunny afternoon. A nice mix of fish & chip shop fare, burgers and some of the healthier Australian options (the salmon and avocado bruschetta is quite good) is complimented by good coffee and great shakes. It is a little pricey for what you get and the staff can be a little unsure at times, but the food is good and the fish and chips rule all.

The barra and flathead were as good as you'd get in an upmarket pub, similarly priced and we were able to walk down the road and eat them by the sea. The house-made tartare sauce is worth half a star on its own. There should be a chips and salad option rather than having to choose between the two (maybe there is - we got one of each so didn't need to ask).

Extremely nice service, and they were kind enough to let us use powerpoints to charge our phones when needed. I found the prices were a little on the high side, but the food was definitely fresh. Only complaint was that everything happened so slow, particularly when it came to getting coffees out.

Great service and ambience. However the fish and chips were not as good as we hoped or worth $14.

take away fish and chips was pleasant enough but $22 is a bit rich for no table servide and outside tables. apparently you can sit inside in the evening.

Very expensive for what you get, owner very rude, I would suggest that in Newcastle East you could do a lot better

Scotties is an institution. Only place to get your fish and chip hit over summer. They are also licensed and have some really good live music nights every now and then.

The food is great and the location is excellent, but the service is slow and sloppy. Don't dare to ask if your food is very far away: you'll be given a fair bit of indignation by the staff and some snide comments when your food finally does arrive.
